Sprigatito, Fuecoco, and Quaxly in 2026: Collecting the Paldea Starters

The Paldea starters are the only current-era generation whose collector arc is still actively growing.

Sprigatito, Fuecoco, and Quaxly launched with Pokémon Scarlet and Violet in November 2022, and they anchor the entire Scarlet and Violet TCG lineup from the base set through Paldea Evolved and beyond. Each starter has a distinct collector profile: Sprigatito with its broad plush range, Fuecoco with a clean Pokémon Center merchandise arc, and Quaxly with one of the Scarlet and Violet era's most accessible Illustration Rare cards.

Because Gen 9 is the current game, these starters will keep appearing in new sets through the end of the SV era. That makes early collecting different here than it is for older generations where the card pool is fixed.

Sprigatito

Sprigatito (Grass Cat Pokémon, #906) is the Grass-type starter whose final form, Meowscarada, became a fixture in early Scarlet and Violet competitive play. That competitive relevance raised the whole line's profile with collectors who track starter arcs from base card to final evolution ex.

In the TCG, Sprigatito debuted in the Scarlet and Violet base set and received a promo card as part of the Paldea Collection Sprigatito box at launch in 2023. The Meowscarada ex cards across the SV era have kept the evolutionary line visible across competitive decklists and collector binders alike.

On the plush side, Sprigatito has a wider range than almost any other Paldea starter.

The All Star Collection Sprigatito is the clean shelf option: accurate proportions, standard size, and produced under the Pokémon Center licensing umbrella. It handles display well and is one of the first purchases most Sprigatito collectors make.

The Banpresto 15-inch pillow plush is a different kind of piece entirely. At that size, with a softer fabric texture and exaggerated proportions, it works as a statement display item rather than a figure.

The Lazy Stretch and "Look at My Tail" Banpresto variants from Chinese licensees also circulate from importers, giving Sprigatito one of the more complete plush timelines in the current generation.

Fuecoco

Fuecoco (Fire Croc Pokémon, #909) took a quieter path in collector markets than its fellow starters, but the Pokémon Center official plush line made it an early target for merchandise-focused collectors.

The standard Pokémon Centre Fuecoco plush is the primary display piece for the line. It remains consistently available from importers and sits at a practical price point for collectors building a full Paldea starter plush set. The life-size Fuecoco from the Japanese Pokémon Center, which appears from importers at significantly higher prices, is the premium alternative for dedicated collectors.

In the TCG, Fuecoco 201/193 from Paldea Evolved (sv02) received Illustration Rare treatment in the same set as Quaxly's standout IR. Fuecoco's IR typically trades lower, which makes it an accessible entry point for collectors building an sv02 Illustration Rare run.

Skeledirge ex brought Fuecoco's final evolution into competitive relevance. For collectors who track starter lines from base card to fully evolved ex, the Fuecoco arc across the first two Scarlet and Violet sets is among the cleaner timelines in the current era.

Quaxly

Quaxly (Duckling Pokémon, #912) is where the most compelling collector opportunity in the Paldea trio sits.

The 206/193 Illustration Rare from Paldea Evolved (sv02) is one of the most distinctive IR cards in the Scarlet and Violet era. The illustration places Quaxly in a full-art composition that reflects the character's design aesthetic: precise, upright posture and a formal elegance that sets it apart from most Water-type starter illustrations in the modern TCG. Where many starters get dynamic action poses in their Illustration Rares, Quaxly's card leans into the character's poise.

$36.00 USD

This card has not been reprinted or paralleled since Paldea Evolved's June 2023 release. At prices ranging from roughly $19 to $36 depending on condition and seller, it sits in a bracket accessible to most collector budgets, which is not guaranteed for Illustration Rares in the SV era. That accessibility and distinctive art make it the first Quaxly single most collectors target.

Quaxly also received a Funko Pop vinyl (No. 1012), making it one of the very few Paldea starters represented in that format. For collectors who run parallel collecting across plush, TCG, and vinyl figures, that matters when building a complete starter display.

Sealed Products: The Paldea Collection Boxes

All three Paldea starters received individual Paldea Collection boxes at the Scarlet and Violet launch in March 2023.

Each box included a promo card for the respective starter, Scarlet and Violet booster packs, and a coin. These were positioned as the cleanest way to acquire the starter promos without pulling random packs, and they remain available sealed from independent sellers in 2026. The Quaxly collection is the most sought of the three, given the overlap with the character's IR popularity.

Individual sealed Paldea Collection boxes for Sprigatito and Fuecoco follow similar availability patterns. For collectors who want the promo cards and the sealed experience together, these boxes remain a cleaner option than hunting singles after the fact.

The 30th Anniversary Card Sets

Earlier in 2026, the Japanese 30th Pokémon Anniversary celebration produced commemorative card sets covering starter trios from every generation.

The Paldea set brings Sprigatito, Fuecoco, and Quaxly together in Japanese-exclusive commemorative packaging with artwork produced specifically for the anniversary series. It is not part of the standard English TCG set structure, which makes it the most unusual Paldea starter collecting angle that has surfaced this year. These sets circulate from Japanese importers and appeal to collectors who build region-specific or anniversary-oriented collections alongside their English card binders.

The Paldea anniversary card set is also notable because it is one of the first products to present all three Paldea starters together in a single sealed item outside of the bundled Paldea Collection case packs. For collectors who prefer a single purchase to cover the trio, that matters.
