TCG Pocket's Mega Mewtwo X ex is the first card in the digital format to carry two energy types at once.

Announced in August 2026 and rolling out in October, Mega Mewtwo X ex shows both Psychic and Fighting typing, matching the Pokémon's dual-type nature as it appears in the mainline games. Every card released in TCG Pocket before this carried a single type. That single change has a direct consequence for collectors who split their attention between the digital game and physical TCG: it makes Mega Mewtwo X the first digital card to accurately represent a form that physical cards have always simplified.

This is not a subtle distinction.

Mega Mewtwo X vs. Mega Mewtwo Y: The Physical TCG Split

In Pokémon X and Y, Mega Mewtwo X changes type from pure Psychic to Psychic/Fighting. Mega Mewtwo Y, by contrast, stays pure Psychic with a stat redistribution but no type shift. The two forms exist as a paired decision in the games: one stone gives you a Fighting-infused tank, the other gives you a pure Psychic attacker with higher Special Attack.

The physical TCG addressed both forms in BREAKthrough (2015). That set contains four M Mewtwo EX cards across the two forms, split between X and Y designs: M Mewtwo EX 62/162 and 160/162 represent the X form, while 61/162 and 159/162 represent the Y form. Despite the X form's Fighting-type shift in the games, all four carry a single Psychic energy type in the physical game.

The dual-type mechanic that TCG Pocket now introduces has no equivalent in any BREAKthrough printing.

That gap is now visible to TCG Pocket players who have opened a Mega Mewtwo X ex card in the digital game and notice it lists two types. No physical card currently matches that dual-type attribute in official English printing. TCG Pocket created something the physical game has not yet delivered for this Pokémon.

The Full Art price gap between the two forms is modest. M Mewtwo EX 160/162 (X form) runs around $156 at current active listings. The 159/162 (Y form) trades in a similar bracket, occasionally higher due to the Y form's greater competitive play history in the 2015–2016 format.

Neither card has seen major price movement in the months since the 30th Celebration launch.

The Physical Mewtwo Entry Ladder in October 2026

Three entry tiers are active in the current market, each for a different collector goal.

The SVP052 Illustration Rare promo is the most recognizable Mewtwo card in the current window. It carries both the Pokémon 30th anniversary mark and the "What's Your Favorite" campaign logo, making it one of the only cards in 2026 that memorializes two simultaneous Pokémon Company campaigns on a single card. Storefronts have it at $42–$63 USD depending on seller and currency.

For collectors who want sealed product over singles, two boxed formats sit in the $61–$90 range.

The Team Rocket's Mewtwo ex Box at $61 is the physical bridge between the TCG Pocket Team Rocket's Ambition arc and the sealed product market. It packages the Team Rocket's Mewtwo ex card in a boxed format alongside booster content. For a TCG Pocket player whose first real-world Mewtwo interaction came through Team Rocket's Ambition, this is a logical physical entry.

The 30th Celebration Figure Collection (Mewtwo) sits higher, starting at $89.95 at pre-order pricing. It pairs a Mewtwo figure with booster content and represents a different collector profile: merchandise alongside card content, not one or the other.

The Oct 2 GWP Window and the $15 Trigger

One product in the Mewtwo physical lineup creates an additional purchase reason that expires after October 2.

On October 2, retailers including GameStop, Best Buy, Hot Topic, and Barnes and Noble are distributing the Mewtwo SVP052 Illustration Rare as a free gift with qualifying purchases of $15 or more. The Team Rocket's Mewtwo ex League Battle Deck at $19.95 clears the threshold with room to spare, making it the cheapest current sealed Mewtwo product that both triggers the GWP and carries direct Mewtwo content.

That combination exists for one day.

After October 2, the SVP052 GWP pathway closes and the card returns to secondary market pricing only ($42–$63 at current listings). The League Battle Deck stays in stock regardless: it is not an allocation-capped item. The free SVP052 promo does not.

For a TCG Pocket player who has Mega Mewtwo X ex in the digital game and has never owned a physical Mewtwo card, the Oct 2 in-store window is the lowest-cost entry point that produces two physical Mewtwo cards (the League Battle Deck's Mewtwo ex and the SVP052 promo) for a single $19.95 spend. That path is independent of DexHaul and is only available in-store at participating US retailers on October 2.

What TCG Pocket's Dual-Type Card Signals for Physical Collecting

The dual-type mechanic in TCG Pocket is not a gimmick. It directly represents the type split that exists in the games, which physical TCG cards have consistently simplified away for Mewtwo since BREAKthrough in 2015.

If TCG Pocket's mechanics continue to influence physical card design (the two formats have already shared art direction, character arcs, and timing windows), a dual-type physical Mewtwo card becomes plausible in a future set. No announcement currently confirms this. But the gap exists and is now visible to anyone who opens a Mega Mewtwo X ex in the app and goes looking for the same card in real life.

Right now, the BREAKthrough Full Arts remain the physical standard. The current entry ladder is $19.95 at the floor to $156 for the XY Full Art. The window to acquire SVP052 for free closes tomorrow.
