Pokémon TCG Sinnoh Stars Mini Tins: Every Variant Explained for 2026
By Dexhaul Team · September 15, 2026
The Sinnoh Stars Mini Tin series is the only TCG product line to give five separate Gen 4 Pokémon their own dedicated sealed release.
Released in 2022 as part of the Sword and Shield era, the series covers all three Sinnoh starters plus two of the region's most recognizable companions. Each tin contains two booster packs and one Pokémon Art Card: an oversized illustrated card printed larger than standard TCG dimensions, not the same format as a tournament-legal stamped promo. That distinction matters if you're collecting alongside competitive-legal promos from current sets.
The five variants are: Turtwig paired with Luxray, Chimchar paired with Pachirisu, Piplup paired with Mime Jr., a Riolu tin, and Munchlax paired with Drifloon. Prices across independent shops run from roughly $27 to $40 per individual tin. The complete set of five is also available as a bundle from select shops.
The Three Sinnoh Starters
Turtwig, Chimchar, and Piplup each headlining their own tin is a straightforward play on Gen 4 nostalgia. What is not immediately obvious is the companion design choice: none of the starter tins pair the focal Pokémon with its own evolution line.
Instead, each starter is matched with a regional contemporary. Luxray joins Turtwig, Pachirisu joins Chimchar, and Mime Jr. joins Piplup.
Those companions give each tin a secondary visual anchor without competing with the starter's spotlight position on the tin art. Collectors who want Torterra, Infernape, or Empoleon artwork need to look elsewhere: the evolution lines are absent from the series entirely.
Why the Chimchar Tin Matters Right Now
The 30th Celebration TCG set launches September 16 with a dedicated Chimchar promo card. That card is a stamped, tournament-legal promo in standard card dimensions: a completely different product from the oversized Art Card in this tin.
Two distinct Chimchar sealed items in the same window is not common. The 30th Celebration promo card is available only through 30th Celebration products.
The Sinnoh Stars Mini Tin Art Card predates that set by four years and uses different artwork entirely. Collectors focused on Chimchar have a second acquisition target at a lower price point, without paying for 30th Celebration products.
The Chimchar tin at $29.95 from Shopverse is the lowest floor on any individual variant. Two booster packs plus the Art Card at that price puts the per-pack cost at roughly $12-15, which is competitive with loose pack pricing from SWSH-era sets.
Piplup and Mime Jr.
The Piplup tin sits slightly higher at $37.99 from Oney Collectibles. The companion here is Mime Jr., a Baby Pokémon introduced in Gen 4 with no direct type or gameplay relationship to Piplup.
The pairing works visually, and for collectors wanting all three starters on their shelf, this is the third tin to complete that trio.
Empoleon, Piplup's final evolution, is absent from the tin's Art Card entirely. If your focus is Empoleon specifically, this tin won't serve that need.
The Two Non-Starter Tins
Riolu and Munchlax are the two non-starter Pokémon in the series. Both are Gen 4 Baby or pre-evolution Pokémon: Riolu is the pre-evolution of Lucario, and Munchlax is the pre-evolution of Snorlax, introduced in Diamond and Pearl.
The Riolu tin at $33.00 from Cardboard Memories is notable for one specific reason.
Lucario has an extensive product catalog across TCG sets, plush lines, and figures. Riolu, the pre-evolution, appears as a supporting card in many sets but almost never anchors a product of its own.
If you collect Riolu specifically rather than Lucario, this is one of the few dedicated Riolu-headlined TCG products available from independent shops.
Munchlax and Drifloon: the Most Underrated Variant
Munchlax, paired with Drifloon, sits at $34.99 from Oney Collectibles. Snorlax has an enormous product footprint: plush lines, dozens of TCG cards across every era, and collector merchandise across nearly every category.
Munchlax, its pre-evolution, receives almost none of that attention. The Sinnoh Stars Mini Tin is the only Munchlax-headlined sealed TCG product currently listed from independent shops.
Drifloon is an apt pairing: a Ghost/Flying type introduced in the same generation, rarely featured as a primary subject on any sealed product. The two together make this the most unusual variant in the series by a wide margin. If your collection is focused on filling gaps rather than popular subjects, this is the tin most likely to stay overlooked by the broader market.
Buying the Complete Set
Individual tins run $27-$40 depending on variant and seller. Buying all five separately costs $160-$200 in total across independent shops, with price variance driven mostly by seller margin and listing age rather than product difference.
The H-YPE 5-pack bundle at $200 is roughly at the upper end of buying each separately, so the bundle price is not a significant discount. The real convenience argument is single-order fulfillment and guaranteed access to all five variants without tracking down individual listings. If you only want one or two specific tins, buying individually at $30-$38 makes more sense.
Which Variant to Prioritize
For collectors following the 30th Celebration Sinnoh arc: the Chimchar tin at $29.95 is the clearest pick. It sits at the series floor price, it features the same Pokémon as tomorrow's 30th Celebration launch promo, and the Art Card gives you a different visual format of Chimchar at no premium over the Turtwig variant.
For completionists of the Sinnoh region, all three starter tins complete the set alongside Chimchar.
The Turtwig/Luxray tin has the widest availability and the lowest per-unit floor in the series. The Piplup tin runs a few dollars higher across most current listings.
For collectors after something genuinely unusual: Munchlax. The Munchlax tin is the only dedicated Munchlax-headlined TCG product you will find from independent shops right now. That fact alone puts it in a different category from the starter tins, which have plentiful alternatives across dozens of other sets.
