No new Pokémon Stadium game has been announced as of October 2026.

The last official title in the Stadium-style battle-arena series was Pokémon Battle Revolution, released on the Nintendo Wii in December 2006 in Japan and June 2007 in North America. No sequel has appeared on the Wii U, 3DS, Switch, or Switch 2.

If you are waiting for the series to return, here is what the record shows and what to play while you wait.

The Pokémon Stadium series, release by release

Three games used the battle-arena format: a 3D stage, your own Pokémon imported from a handheld game, and head-to-head or Cup battles. All three released on Nintendo home consoles.

Title Console Japan North America Key feature
Pokémon Stadium Nintendo 64 Aug 5, 1999 Mar 6, 2000 Transfer Pak; 151 Pokémon; rental pool for battles without Transfer Pak
Pokémon Stadium 2 Nintendo 64 Dec 14, 2000 Mar 27, 2001 All 251 Pokémon; Gym Leader Castle; Gold/Silver compatibility
Pokémon Battle Revolution Nintendo Wii Dec 14, 2006 Jun 25, 2007 Wireless import from Diamond & Pearl DS; online Wi-Fi battles

Stadium 1 and Stadium 2 both launched on the N64 within a 25-month window (March 2000 to March 2001). Battle Revolution followed six years later on the Wii. No battle-arena title has appeared in the 19 years since Battle Revolution shipped in North America.

Not announced: no new Pokémon Stadium for Switch or Switch 2

The Pokémon Company, Nintendo, and Game Freak have not announced a Stadium-style game for Nintendo Switch or Nintendo Switch 2 as of October 2026.

Competitive Pokémon battles today run through the mainline Switch games directly. Pokémon Scarlet and Violet (November 2022) include a full online battle ladder, ranked matches, and local wireless play. The separate battle-arena product format that Stadium pioneered has not returned.

The original Transfer Pak was a hardware accessory: it plugged your Game Boy cartridge directly into the N64 controller. Battle Revolution replaced that with wireless import from Diamond and Pearl on DS.

Neither model carried forward to Switch, where Pokémon HOME serves as the cloud-based transfer layer instead. A Switch-era Stadium equivalent would need a different connectivity model entirely.

What to play right now instead of a new Stadium game

Three options cover the main reasons people want a Stadium sequel: competitive battles, open-world exploration, and the retro experience itself.

Pokémon Scarlet and Violet (Nintendo Switch)

For competitive battles, Scarlet and Violet are the current standard. Both games include ranked online matches, the VGC format, and local wireless. The double pack bundles both games at a single price.

The last battle-arena game: Pokémon Battle Revolution (Wii)

If the Stadium format itself is what you want, Battle Revolution is the closest modern equivalent still available to collect. It connected wirelessly to Diamond and Pearl on the DS and added online Wi-Fi matchmaking, which Stadium never had. Copies are available from independent sellers at accessible prices.

Pokémon Legends: Arceus (Nintendo Switch)

For a different angle on the series, Legends: Arceus trades the battle arena for open-area catching and research tasks. It is a distinct experience from Stadium, but it fills the "3D Pokémon world to explore" gap that a lot of Stadium fans are actually after. Released January 28, 2022 (Serebii).

Retro route: finding Stadium on N64

The original N64 games are still the only way to experience the Transfer Pak import system. If you have a working N64 and cartridges for Red, Blue, Yellow, Gold, Silver, or Crystal, you can play Pokémon Stadium or Stadium 2 exactly as designed. Both games are available from independent retro game sellers on DexHaul right now.

Stadium 2 is the more complete game: it covers all 251 Pokémon from Generations I and II, adds the Gym Leader Castle mode, and is compatible with Gold and Silver saves. It is a natural upgrade from the first title if you can find only one copy. For a deeper look at Game Boy-era Pokémon games worth tracking down, see the Pokémon Game Boy collector guide.

How to spot a real announcement

The Pokémon Company announces new mainline and console spin-off games through pokemon.com news and the bi-annual Pokémon Presents broadcasts. A genuine Stadium announcement would appear there first, not via leaks or social media alone.

Pokémon Presents typically runs in February (around Pokémon Day, February 27) and August. Neither the February 2026 nor the August 2026 broadcast announced a Stadium-style game.

If you are also curious about other unannounced sequels, the answer is similar for several series: see the Gold and Silver remake status and the Pokémon Winds and Waves release date page for confirmed upcoming titles.
