30th Celebration After Sep 10: What to Buy When the ETB Allocation Closes
By Dexhaul Team · September 8, 2026
The 30th Anniversary Celebration ETB allocation window closes September 10–12. If you haven't placed your specialty-retailer order yet, that deadline is now the most important number in Pokémon TCG.
Grab one while it's still at MSRP. Multiple independent retailers are still listing the standard ETB at $149.99, including Collector Store LLC with an expected ship date of September 16. After the window closes, Wave 1 ETBs will only be found on the secondary market at a significant premium.
Missing that deadline is not the same as missing the launch entirely. The Pokémon Company's 30th Celebration product lineup is deliberately split across two supply-chain tiers: a specialty channel (ETBs, UPCs) and mass retail (Knockout Collections, Battle Decks, ex Boxes). Each tier has a different allocation structure, and only one of them closes Sep 10.
What "Specialty Allocation" Actually Means
Specialty allocation is an order-quantity constraint, not a "sold out" moment.
Hobby game stores and independent specialty retailers pre-order from distributors several months before a set launches. The Pokémon Company sets a fixed supply ceiling for that channel, which is how ETBs and Ultra Premium Collections end up "allocated." Once those distributor orders are locked in, no new ETBs can be added to specialty-channel pre-orders. That process closes for the 30th Celebration around September 10–12 based on confirmed retailer communication.
Mass-retail products work differently. Knockout Collections, Battle Decks, and ex Boxes sell through Target, Walmart, GameStop, and general online retailers.
Those channels have separate supply agreements and replenishment cycles. A Knockout Collection running low at one retailer gets restocked from the same warehouse system as toothpaste and coffee. There is no fixed pre-order window, because there is no allocation ceiling structured the same way.
This distinction is why missing the ETB window does not mean missing September 16 entirely.
Option 1: The Knockout Collection ($19.99–$30)
The Knockout Collection is the mass-retail answer to the ETB. It launches September 16, carries no specialty-channel allocation constraint, and is the most affordable way to open 30th Celebration packs on launch day.
Prices from independent shops currently sit between $19.99 (Riftgate) and $30 (The HydroPump Pokéshop), with Northwest Card Company at $25 as a strong mid-point. The Knockout Collection is designed as the entry-level product in the lineup, but it still contains 30th Celebration booster packs with the same all-foil treatment applied to every card in this set. A Futuristic Ultra Rare (FUR) can come from any 30th Celebration pack, regardless of which format you open.
Two Knockout Collections at $25 each deliver booster pack access for $50. A single Greninja ex Box runs $54.95 from Galactic Toys. The difference in format value is worth knowing before you choose.
Option 2: The ex Box (Greninja ex or Sylveon ex, $48.99–$81)
The 30th Celebration ex Boxes come in two variants: Greninja ex and Sylveon ex. Both are available from independent shops ahead of the September 16 launch, with prices ranging from $48.99 (Common Lands) to $81 (Collector's Lane Co. in AUD).
Each ex Box includes 30th Celebration booster packs plus a character-specific promo card. Greninja and Sylveon are each highly popular, so the promo card choice matters as much as the pack count. If you have a preference between the two characters, order the specific variant rather than hoping for a random assignment.
MHDEALSPLUS offers a Set of 2 bundle (Greninja ex plus Sylveon ex together) for $139.95, which undercuts buying each separately if you want both promos.
Option 3: The Booster Bundle (October 2026, Wave 2)
The Booster Bundle arrives in October 2026 as part of the 30th Celebration Wave 2 release. It is a mass-retail format with no specialty-channel allocation, which means pre-ordering now locks in a price before any launch-week surge.
Galactic Toys has a pre-order listed at $84.95. Many Realms offers the same product at $74.99 for buyers who shop around. There is no urgency pressure on this one: it will be available at Target and similar chains throughout October without a fixed pre-order cutoff.
If your goal is maximizing booster pack count per dollar spent on 30th Celebration, the Booster Bundle is where the math points. The ETB at $149.99 MSRP works out to more per pack than the Booster Bundle at MSRP. The trade-off is timing: the ETB is available September 16, the Booster Bundle is October.
The One Scenario Where None of This Applies
If you want a specific Futuristic Ultra Rare card, opening packs is the worst way to guarantee it.
Every 30th Celebration ex card sits in the FUR slot: Pikachu ex, Charizard ex, Venusaur ex, Blastoise ex, Mewtwo ex. Each appears in a guaranteed slot in the ETB, but the specific card varies by pack. If you want Charizard ex specifically, and only Charizard ex, the most direct path is buying the single on the secondary market after September 16 when supply from opened ETBs reaches independent sellers.
Post-launch singles from the 30th Celebration set will price according to demand once product is opened. Charizard ex and Pikachu ex historically command the widest premiums in anniversary sets. Planning to buy a single rather than opening packs is a rational strategy for collectors targeting one specific card rather than the experience of opening.
How to Decide
The ETB is still orderable at $149.99 from a handful of specialty shops, including Collector Store LLC and tcgvend. If the ETB was your target, act before September 10. After that date, Wave 1 ETBs at MSRP are gone.
If the window has already closed by the time you read this: the Knockout Collection is your Sep 16 option, the ex Box delivers a promo plus packs in the $49–$81 range, and the Booster Bundle is the October format to watch. None of these have a hard pre-order cutoff, and all open 30th Celebration packs with the same all-foil card treatment.
The Pokémon Company built this set with multiple entry points on purpose. The allocation deadline affects one product tier. The rest of the lineup is still fully accessible.
