Koffing and Weezing Collector's Guide 2026: Two Team Rocket Eras, a Galarian Form, and the Cards Worth Finding

The Koffing and Weezing line has Team Rocket-branded cards in two completely separate eras, separated by 25 years, which makes their collector arc unlike almost any other Kanto Poison-type line.

In 2000, the WOTC Team Rocket expansion gave Weezing a Holo Rare under the "Dark" prefix. In 2025, Destined Rivals sv10 brought the line back with "Team Rocket's" prefix branding and a full Illustration Rare. Between those two endpoints sits a Galarian regional form that adds a type combination the original set couldn't even have named.

Here is what each era costs today and where the Galarian form fits in.

Dark Weezing in the 2000 Team Rocket Expansion

The Team Rocket expansion used "Dark" as its localization prefix for all of Jessie and James's Pokémon. Dark Weezing 14/82 was one of 18 Holo Rares in the set, released in April 2000 under WOTC's printing arrangement with The Pokémon Company.

The 1st Edition Holofoil version lists at $52 on current storefronts. The Unlimited version of the exact same card runs $5.91 to $9.04.

That is a 6-to-9x gap for identical card text, identical artwork, and identical game function. The only variable is the black 1st Edition stamp and the finite print window WOTC ran before switching to Unlimited production. Collector demand has held the 1st Edition premium for over two decades.

One naming distinction matters for collectors comparing eras. The 2000 set used the "Dark" prefix, which was WOTC's localization decision for the Team Rocket expansion. So the card reads "Dark Weezing," not "Team Rocket's Weezing."

Dark Koffing 54/82 exists in the same set as a non-Holo rare. Completing the set's Koffing and Weezing pair means sourcing both, and they sit in separate rarity tiers.

The Galarian Form: A Type Combination That Did Not Exist in 2000

Galarian Weezing was introduced in Sword and Shield (2019). It evolves from standard Koffing in Galar's regional conditions and carries Fairy/Poison typing.

That type combination is impossible on any card from the 2000 Team Rocket set. The Fairy type was introduced in Generation 6 with X and Y in 2013, 13 years after Dark Weezing was printed. Any Galarian Weezing card is, by definition, newer than the typing system it would require.

In the TCG, Galarian Weezing received two treatments in Shining Fates (2021): the standard Holo Rare 042/072 and the Shiny Vault entry SV077/SV122. The Shiny Vault card shows Galarian Weezing in its shiny coloring, which inverts the signature top-hat chimney tones. Current prices run $0.47 to $2.37 for the standard holo and $4 to $5 for the Shiny Vault version.

Neither Shining Fates card carries Team Rocket branding. That comes in the next set.

Destined Rivals sv10: Team Rocket's Weezing Returns After 25 Years

Destined Rivals sv10 brought back the Team Rocket-branded Weezing under a new naming convention. Instead of the 2000-era "Dark" prefix, the 2025 set uses "Team Rocket's" as the prefix, a format applied across the set's Team Rocket character cards.

$8.00

Team Rocket's Weezing IR 199/182 lists at $7.99 to $8.00. The base version 126/182 sits at $1.00.

The Illustration Rare uses full-bleed artwork that extends past the standard card border, a format the 2000 set didn't have. The $8 price point for the IR is near the floor for an SV-era Illustration Rare at launch.

The pricing relationship between the two eras is not what you might assume after a 25-year gap. The $8 modern IR sits below the $9 Unlimited version of the 2000 card.

Vintage demand and finite print runs have held the 2000-era Dark Weezing above the 2025 IR, which will likely close over time as the Destined Rivals market matures. Collectors who want both eras are looking at roughly $60 total: $52 for the 1st Edition or $9 for the Unlimited, plus $8 for the IR.

Pokémon 151 and the Modern Floor

The Pokémon 151 set (SV3.5, released 2023) covered every original Kanto Pokémon by Pokédex number. Weezing (#110) received a Rare Holo at 110/165.

At $2.00, this is the entry point for a holo Weezing single in the SV era. Koffing (#109) appears in the same set as a non-holo, which is the pattern for Koffing across most English sets: the pre-evolution rarely gets the holo treatment that Weezing does. The 151 Weezing at $2 sits in a different category than the vintage Dark Weezing, but it connects the original Kanto Pokédex to the current SV card format in a single purchase.

Plush and Merch: The Koffing Price Inversion

Koffing plush costs more than Weezing plush. That inverts the normal pattern where evolutions command higher prices in the collectible market.

The Pokémon Fit Weezing plush from Pokémon Center Japan lists at $19.00 to $24.99, depending on the reseller. The 10" Koffing plush runs $45.00 to $48.99.

Koffing commands a 2-to-2.5x premium over its evolution in the plush market. The driver is the original anime (1997-2000).

Koffing was Jessie's primary partner through nearly the entire original series run. Its round, floating, skull-marked silhouette became one of the most recognizable Team Rocket designs before evolving into Weezing in Episode 53.

Weezing appeared later and with less standalone screen time. The plush market reflects which form locked into cultural memory first.

For collectors who want both Pokémon in a single item, the Koffing and Weezing National Pokédex Metal Charm Keychain covers both at $6.00.
