Kubfu and Urshifu Collector's Guide 2026: Which Form Costs More, and Why

Single Strike Urshifu sits 2.5 to 3.5 times higher than Rapid Strike at the alt art tier in Battle Styles, despite both forms appearing in the same set at the same rarity level.

That gap is the single most useful fact to know before you start buying Urshifu cards. It shapes which products are cheap, which are expensive, and why the two forms feel so different to collect despite sharing a Pokédex number.

This guide covers both forms, their pre-evolution Kubfu, and where each one sits in 2026 across sealed products, singles, and merchandise.

From Kubfu to Urshifu: The Tower Choice

Urshifu is the Wushu Pokémon introduced in the Crown Tundra expansion for Pokémon Sword and Shield. Its pre-evolution, Kubfu, is given to the player by Mustard at the Master Dojo on the Isle of Armor. To evolve Kubfu into Urshifu, you take it up either the Tower of Darkness or the Tower of Waters.

The tower you choose locks the form permanently. Tower of Darkness gives Single Strike Urshifu (Dark/Fighting); Tower of Waters gives Rapid Strike Urshifu (Water/Fighting).

Single Strike's signature move, Wicked Blow, always lands as a critical hit. Rapid Strike's Surging Strikes hits three times in a row, bypassing most protection effects.

The TCG took that choice and built an entire set around it.

Battle Styles: The First SWSH Set to Ship Two ETBs

Battle Styles (SWSH05) released in February 2021 as the first Sword and Shield set to split its Elite Trainer Box artwork across two distinct form identities. Every prior SWSH ETB had one design. Battle Styles shipped with a Gigantamax Single Strike Urshifu box in orange and a Gigantamax Rapid Strike Urshifu box in blue, making the form decision visible at the retail shelf level before a single pack was opened.

The set introduced Single Strike Energy and Rapid Strike Energy as distinct card mechanics. Cards bearing those energy symbols could only be used with the matching style, creating a fork in deckbuilding that was legible to anyone who had played the games.

In 2026, the Single Strike ETB floor sits around $144.99. The Rapid Strike ETB floor sits around $116 to $133. The sealed premium already tilts toward Single Strike at the ETB level, though the gap is modest compared to what happens at the singles level.

Where to Start: V Boxes Before ETBs

If you want to own the form's flagship cards without spending ETB prices, the V Boxes are the lower-commitment entry point. Each box includes the form's Urshifu V card, an oversized version of that card, and a small number of booster packs.

The Rapid Strike Urshifu V Box is currently the cheaper of the two at $44.99 USD from several independent sellers. The Single Strike Urshifu V Box runs CA$69.95 and up. Neither box guarantees a pull from the higher rarity tiers; they exist primarily as collection display pieces for the form-specific V card and oversized promo.

The Alt Art Gap: Where the Price Split Is Widest

Single Strike Urshifu VMAX 168/163 is the Alternate Art Secret from Battle Styles. It depicts Gigantamax Single Strike Urshifu in a dramatic dark-red battlefield scene. In 2026, it trades between $30 and $40 across independent sellers.

The Rapid Strike Urshifu VMAX 169/163 is the Secret Rare for the Rapid Strike form, featuring a rainbow foil treatment. It currently trades between $11 and $12.

Both cards share the same alt/secret rarity tier within Battle Styles. The 2.5 to 3x price gap exists entirely because of art treatment preference, not rarity.

The Alternate Art Secret (168/163) depicts a full illustrated scene. The Secret Rare rainbow foil (169/163) uses the standard portrait composition with a rainbow foil overlay.

Collector demand for illustrated scene cards has consistently outpaced rainbow foil demand in the SWSH era, and the Single Strike Alternate Art is the beneficiary of that preference in Battle Styles.

Rapid Strike actually held stronger competitive play history through the 2021 format, with Rapid Strike Urshifu VMAX appearing in multiple strong tournament builds. The card market inverted that signal entirely: competitive relevance did not translate to a singles premium. What mattered was the art.

No English Urshifu ex in the SV Era

Urshifu has not received a dedicated ex, VSTAR, or higher-rarity treatment in any English Scarlet and Violet set through September 2026.

The SV base set includes a standard Urshifu entry (priced at $2 to $4 on the secondary market), covering the Pokédex reference but not the collector-tier format. Given that Battle Styles cards are approaching four years since release, the absence of an SV ex for either form is a notable structural gap compared to Pokémon with similar competitive and fan-recognition profiles. An SV-era ex for Urshifu, when it arrives, would reset the collector pricing landscape for the character entirely.

Kubfu: The Plush Side of the Line

Kubfu holds a specific position in the merchandise market: it is the pre-evolution with a dedicated large-format plush when Urshifu itself has very limited plush representation.

The 12-inch Kubfu Poké Plush sits at $56.29 from independent sellers. That price places it in the mid-tier for official Pokémon plush of this scale.

Smaller Chokkori-San format Kubfu plush are available for around $17. These are the Pokémon Center Japan miniature seated-figure line: smaller, firmer, and designed for shelf display rather than handling.

Kubfu's compact, bear-like design works well in both formats, which partly explains why the plush line is more developed for Kubfu than for the taller, more angular Urshifu forms.

Collecting Priority at a Glance

For the budget-conscious collector: the Rapid Strike V Box at $44.99 is the accessible entry point for the line. It gives you the form-specific V card and oversized promo at a fraction of ETB pricing.

For the singles collector targeting the top of the set: Single Strike VMAX 168/163 at $30 to $40 is the card the market values. Rapid Strike VMAX 169/163 at $11 is the cheaper alt-tier entry point if you want both forms represented at the Secret Rare level without committing $30 or more to the Single Strike version.

For the sealed collector: expect to pay a modest premium for Single Strike across ETBs and V Boxes. The gap is not extreme at the sealed level, but it runs consistently in favor of the dark form.

For the Kubfu/Urshifu display collector building a full-evolution shelf: the 12-inch Kubfu plush rounds out the line at the pre-evolution level. The Pokédex statue sets from YesGK at around $33 to $140 cover both forms in resin format if you want the evolution arc represented three-dimensionally.
