Meganium is the Johto starter the collector market has consistently overlooked.
That changes tomorrow. The Ascended Heroes expansion arrives on August 28, and it puts a Mega Meganium ex promo card into retail for the first time alongside Mega Feraligatr ex and Mega Emboar ex. The three Johto starters in their Mega Evolution forms land simultaneously, which means the next 48 hours is the moment to decide where Meganium fits in your collection.
Chikorita's final Stage 2 evolution has been in the TCG since the original Gold/Silver era. It has had good cards, strong art across multiple sets, and a plush line with genuine collector appeal.

The Neo Genesis Holo
The foundational Meganium card arrived with the Neo Genesis set, released in October 2000. Neo Genesis was the first English TCG set to introduce Gold/Silver characters, and the Meganium Holo Rare was one of the set's defining pulls.

The HeartGold SoulSilver Prime
Meganium Prime from the HeartGold SoulSilver base set (2010) is the strongest Meganium card from the post-Neo era.
The Prime card frame extended the art across the full card face rather than constraining it to the standard illustration box, and the Meganium Prime used that space well. The card captures the character's scale and the detail on its flower collar in a way the smaller Neo Genesis art could not. It was not a significant competitive card, but that is not why collectors keep it in their binders now.
