Pokémon Promo Card Storage: Oversized and Stamped Promos (2026)
By Dexhaul Team · October 28, 2026 · 6 min read
Pokémon promo card storage is not one-size-fits-all.
The stamped promo that comes inside an Elite Trainer Box is a standard 35pt card and fits any 3x4 toploader. The oversized jumbo card from a First Partner pack is nearly twice as tall and needs its own binder.
The metal promo from a 151 Ultra-Premium Collection is a thick 130pt card that will crack a standard toploader if you force it in. Wrong Pokémon promo card storage is the single most common cause of promo damage, and it is completely avoidable.
This guide covers Pokémon promo card storage for all three categories, with the right holder at each thickness and a fit table to bookmark.
Pokémon Promo Card Storage: Holder by Type
Pokémon promo cards fall into three distinct thickness classes. Ultra PRO publishes the card-thickness specification for each of its holders; the numbers below come from their published product specs, observed October 28, 2026.
| Promo type | Size | Thickness | Right holder | Fits 9-pocket binder? | Common examples |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Standard stamped promo | 2.5 x 3.5 in | 35pt | 35pt 3x4 toploader + penny sleeve | Yes | ETB promos, Deck Builder's promos, Battle Deck promos |
| Metal promo card | 2.5 x 3.5 in | 130pt+ | ONE-TOUCH 130pt or 180pt magnetic holder | No (damages pocket) | 151 UPC metal Mew ex, Celebrations metal Pikachu and Charizard, Arceus VSTAR UPC metal cards |
| First Partner jumbo card (2020+) | 5.75 x 8 in | 35pt | First Partner Collector's Binder or 6x9 toploader | No | Sword and Shield First Partner packs, Scarlet and Violet First Partner |
| Older box-topper jumbo | 6 x 8.25 in | 35pt | 6x8 or 6x9 toploader, or a comic-sleeve binder page | No | XY era box toppers, Sun and Moon era jumbo promos |
The key measurement to check first is thickness, not size. A standard stamp promo and a metal promo from the same product line look nearly identical face-on.
The metal card weighs noticeably more and has no card stock flex. If you are unsure, hold the card at the corner and apply light pressure: a standard card bends slightly, a metal card does not move at all.

Standard stamped promos
Slip the card into a penny sleeve before loading it into the toploader. The penny sleeve creates a thin buffer between the card surface and the rigid toploader lip, preventing micro-scratches during insertion and removal. Without the sleeve, repeated loading wears the card's finish at the edges, which is especially visible on foil promo cards.
A standard 25-count pack of 35pt toploaders handles one month of typical ETB promo pulls. Buy in bulk if you open multiple boxes per set release. For binder storage, standard stamped promos fit any 9-pocket page in a sleeved state.
Metal promo cards
Metal promos from Ultra-Premium Collections are official Pokémon Company products with a zinc-alloy construction and a measured thickness around 130pt to 180pt. Forcing one into a 35pt toploader will bow the toploader's walls outward and stress the card's plating at the edges. Use a ONE-TOUCH magnetic holder rated at the card's actual thickness: Ultra PRO's Edge 35pt ONE-TOUCH is for standard cards, while their 130pt and 180pt ONE-TOUCH models are sized for metal and thick stamped alternatives.
The Poké Ball printed ONE-TOUCH is the 35pt version and is suitable for standard promo display. If you have a metal promo from a 151 UPC or Celebrations UPC, confirm the point thickness on the product packaging before buying a ONE-TOUCH size. The 151 UPC metal Mew ex card is listed at 130pt on its packaging.
Oversized jumbo promo cards
First Partner jumbo cards released from Sword and Shield onward measure approximately 5.75 x 8 inches per BCW Supplies' card-size reference. Older XY and Sun and Moon era box-topper jumbos are slightly larger at 6 x 8.25 inches. Neither fits a standard binder page or a 3x4 toploader.
The Pokémon-licensed First Partner Collector's Binder is the only official product designed for oversized jumbo cards. It holds up to 60 jumbo cards in portrait orientation.
For older 6 x 8.25 in jumbos, a BCW comic-book sleeve and a binder sized for comics works well. A 6x9 toploader from Ultra PRO covers both sizes but does not offer the organized display a binder does.
Four Mistakes That Damage Pokémon Promo Cards
Most promo card damage is not caused by accidents. It happens quietly, in storage.
- Skipping the penny sleeve before loading into a toploader. The toploader's opening edge is slightly sharp, and a bare card will pick up fine scratches each time it is loaded or removed. One penny sleeve per card prevents this entirely.
- Using a 35pt toploader for a metal promo. The toploader walls splay outward, the card develops a slight edge dent over time, and removing it without tools is difficult once it has wedged in.
- Storing oversized jumbo cards in standard 9-pocket binder pages. The card corners fold inward. Once a corner crease appears on a jumbo promo it cannot be reversed.
- Leaving promos in a deck box without a sleeve. Deck boxes are designed for shuffleable play decks, not long-term promo display. Unsleeved cards in a deck box rub against the box walls with every move and pick up surface wear within weeks.
A combined toploader and sleeve pack is the most cost-efficient setup for standard stamped promos. The 200-count combo above gives you enough holders for 200 individual promos, with the penny sleeve already included at a per-unit cost well below buying them separately.
Pokémon Promo Cards as Gifts
A promos card bundled with its proper holder makes a more considered gift than a booster pack. A sealed ETB promo in a Pikachu-branded toploader is ready to display immediately and costs well under $15 combined. For oversized jumbo cards, the First Partner Binder with two or three jumbo promos inserted is a complete collectible gift for Q4.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do ETB promo cards fit regular toploaders?
Yes. Standard stamped promos from Elite Trainer Boxes are the same 2.5 x 3.5 in size and 35pt thickness as a regular Pokémon card, so any 3x4 35pt toploader fits them. Slide a penny sleeve on first to protect the foil stamp during loading.
What holder fits the First Partner jumbo cards?
The Pokémon-licensed First Partner Collector's Binder is built for them and holds up to 60 cards. For individual display, a 6x9 toploader from Ultra PRO fits the 5.75 x 8 in First Partner jumbo cards (Sword and Shield era onward).
Can metal Pokémon promo cards go in a regular penny sleeve?
No. Metal promos are 130pt or thicker and a standard 35pt penny sleeve will not close over them. Use a magnetic ONE-TOUCH holder rated at the card's actual thickness: 130pt for the 151 UPC and Celebrations metal promos.
Can I store stamped promos in the same binder as my regular collection?
Yes, as long as both are in penny sleeves first. Stamped promos are standard-sized and fit any 9-pocket binder page alongside regular cards. Keep metal promos separate in their ONE-TOUCH holders rather than forcing them into binder pockets.
