Scarlet & Violet Build & Battle Box (2023): Contents, MSRP and Promos
By Dexhaul Team · October 6, 2026
Four decks, four promos, and one MSRP that the secondary market erased the moment prerelease ended.
The Scarlet & Violet Build & Battle Box contains a 40-card ready-to-play deck, four Scarlet & Violet booster packs, and one of four foil promo cards: Quaquaval, Pawmot, Hawlucha, or Revavroom. The original MSRP was $14.99, as listed on the official Pokémon TCG Scarlet & Violet expansion page. It was sold exclusively through participating local game stores (LGS) during the prerelease period from March 18, 2023, ahead of the set's wide release on March 31, 2023.

What's inside the Scarlet & Violet Build & Battle Box
| Item | Quantity | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| 40-card ready-to-play deck | 1 | Fixed deck; themed around your promo card's type |
| Scarlet & Violet booster packs | 4 | 10 cards each; standard SV01 pack odds |
| Foil promo card | 1 | One of four SVP promo variants (Quaquaval, Pawmot, Hawlucha, or Revavroom) |
Unlike the Scarlet & Violet Elite Trainer Box, the Build & Battle Box includes no accessories. No card sleeves, no six-sided dice, no damage counters, and no condition markers. The 40-card deck contains a basic energy supply sufficient to play, but nothing beyond that.
The deck itself is not random. Each of the four promo variants corresponds to a fixed deck built around that card's type and strategy. If you care which deck you receive, check that the listing specifies a variant before buying on the secondary market.
The four promo variants
Each of the four promos is a foil SVP variant with a distinct card number from the matching card inside SV01 booster packs. As documented on Serebii's Scarlet & Violet card list, the in-set versions carry their own numbered positions in the 198-card set.
| Promo card | Type | In-set number | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Quaquaval | Water | 054/198 | Final evolution of Paldean Quaxly |
| Pawmot | Electric/Fighting | 076/198 | Final evolution of Paldean Pawmi; dual type |
| Hawlucha | Fighting | 118/198 | Single-stage; popular Fighting-type |
| Revavroom | Steel/Poison | 142/198 | Team Star boss's signature Pokémon; dual type |
The promo versions carry their own SVP card numbers, making them distinct printings from the same cards in booster packs. A collector completing the SV01 set checklist needs both the in-set version pulled from packs and the foil promo version from this box. The two are not interchangeable on a checklist.
MSRP and cost per pack at launch
At $14.99 MSRP, the Build & Battle Box offered the lowest cost per pack in the entire SV01 product lineup at launch.
| Format | MSRP | Packs | Cost per pack at MSRP |
|---|---|---|---|
| Build & Battle Box | $14.99 | 4 | $3.75 |
| Booster Bundle | $29.99 | 6 | $5.00 |
| Elite Trainer Box | $49.99 | 9 | $5.55 |
| Booster Box (36 packs) | $143.64 | 36 | $3.99 |
That math only applied during the prerelease window. Secondary market prices today ($40.00 to $55.00 observed October 2026) make the B&B Box the most expensive per-pack SV01 product available. At $44.99, you are paying $11.25 per pack: three times the launch rate.
The MSRP premium was never about the packs. It was about the promo card and the prerelease event access, not the booster value.
How it compares to other SV Build & Battle Boxes
The Build & Battle Box format is consistent across every SV-era set: four packs, four promo variants, no accessories, LGS-exclusive at MSRP. What changes between sets is the promo lineup and the secondary market price.
| SV01 Scarlet & Violet (2023) | SV03 Obsidian Flames (2023) | SV09 Journey Together (2025) | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Packs included | 4 | 4 | 4 |
| MSRP | $14.99 | $14.99 | $14.99 |
| Observed price (October 2026) | $40–$55 | $45–$55 | $37–$62 |
| Promo variants | 4 (by type) | 4 (by type) | 4 (by type) |
| Accessories included | None | None | None |
| Sold at MSRP via | LGS prerelease only | LGS prerelease only | LGS prerelease only |
One fact the format table does not show: the Build & Battle Box was never sold at mass-market retailers (Target, Walmart) or directly through Pokémon Center at $14.99. The MSRP window existed only through participating local game stores running prerelease events. That channel exclusivity is the structural reason why every SV B&B Box trades well above MSRP on the secondary market.
Release timeline
| Date | Event | Source |
|---|---|---|
| March 18, 2023 | Prerelease events begin at participating LGS; B&B Box sold here | Official TCG calendar |
| March 31, 2023 | Scarlet & Violet base set (SV01) wide release | Pokémon TCG official |
| April 2023 onward | B&B Box at MSRP no longer available; secondary market only | Secondary market pricing, October 2026 |
The prerelease window ran for roughly two weeks. After the wide release date, LGS prerelease stock was effectively exhausted and the product moved to the secondary market at a premium.
Who it's for, and who should skip it
Buy it if
You are completing the SV01 set checklist and need the foil SVP promo variants of Quaquaval, Pawmot, Hawlucha, or Revavroom. The promo versions are exclusive to this product and carry different card numbers from the in-set versions pulled from booster packs.
You also have reason to buy if you are building a complete SV01 product collection, or if you specifically want the fixed 40-card prerelease deck for casual play or a gift to a new player who just wants something ready to use out of the box.
Skip it if
You are looking for the best way to open SV01 packs. At $40 to $55 for four packs, the B&B Box is the worst-value SV01 purchase by pack count. The Paldea Evolved ETB or a booster bundle gives you more packs for a comparable or lower total spend.
New players who want accessories should go to an ETB instead. The B&B Box ships with no sleeves, no dice, and nothing beyond the deck and four packs. It is also a poor choice as a gift if you cannot specify which promo variant the recipient needs, since listings often do not guarantee a specific deck.
Frequently asked questions
What is inside the Scarlet & Violet Build & Battle Box?
The box contains a 40-card ready-to-play deck, four Scarlet & Violet base set booster packs (10 cards each), and one of four foil promo cards: Quaquaval, Pawmot, Hawlucha, or Revavroom. No accessories are included.
What are the four promo cards in the Scarlet & Violet Build & Battle Box?
The promos are Quaquaval (Water, 054/198 in-set), Pawmot (Electric/Fighting, 076/198), Hawlucha (Fighting, 118/198), and Revavroom (Steel/Poison, 142/198). Each promo is a foil SVP variant with a different card number from the identical card found in booster packs.
Can you still buy the Scarlet & Violet Build & Battle Box at $14.99 MSRP?
No. The $14.99 MSRP was only available at participating LGS prerelease events in March 2023. Secondary market prices as of October 2026 range from $40 to $55 depending on the seller and whether the variant is specified.
Does the Scarlet & Violet Build & Battle Box come with sleeves or dice?
No. The B&B Box includes only the 40-card deck, four booster packs, and a foil promo card. For sleeves, dice, and damage counters, the Elite Trainer Box is the correct product.
Is the promo card the same as the one in the booster packs?
No. The promo version carries a distinct SVP card number and a foil treatment different from the same Pokémon's card in the standard SV01 booster set. Collectors need both versions for a complete checklist.
