Suicune and the ex★ Buying Window: The Gold Star Premium That Points to ME07
By Dexhaul Team · September 28, 2026
Suicune's Gold Star 115/115 from EX Unseen Forces trades at $1,200 raw. Entei's, from the same 2005 print run, costs $65. That 18x gap between identical-origin cards is the clearest signal in the entire Legendary Beast collection, and it points directly at ME07 Aura Seeker.
ME07 is the first ME-series set to confirm ex★ cards for all three Legendary Beasts. Suicune, Raikou, and Entei all received Gold Stars in EX Unseen Forces with consecutive above-ceiling numbers (113/115, 114/115, 115/115).
Ex★ in ME07 uses the same above-ceiling numbering structure. The two rarity tiers are architecturally identical, twenty years apart.
If Gold Star demand hierarchy repeats in ex★, Suicune ex★ will price meaningfully above Raikou ex★ and significantly above Entei ex★ once ME07 lands. None of that has priced in yet at the entry points available right now.
Why Suicune Carries a Different Premium
The price gap is not about scarcity. All three Gold Stars came from the same 2005 English set in comparable print quantities. The gap is entirely character demand.
Suicune is the only one of the three Legendary Beasts to serve as a version mascot. Pokémon Crystal was the third-version release of Gold and Silver, featuring Suicune as the cover Pokémon and the subject of the game's primary storyline.
Crystal was also the first mainline Pokémon game to offer a female player character option. That combination, the first gender option and the Beast-focused narrative, gave Suicune a cultural footprint that Entei and Raikou do not share.
It also produced a distinct collector tier that has no equivalent for the other two Beasts. Suicune HGSS21, the HeartGold and SoulSilver Black Star Promo, currently trades between $63 and $72 on the secondary market.
It is a holo promo distributed through HGSS-era products, not numbered in any set, and it commands that price specifically because of who the Pokémon is. Entei and Raikou have HGSS-era promos too. They do not trade at those levels.
ME07 will be the first Mega Evolution set to grant ex★ cards to Pokémon with no canonical Mega Evolution form in any mainline game.
Suicune has never Mega Evolved. The ex★ design will be the only canonical Mega Suicune artwork in the entire franchise. That novelty anchors collector demand in a way that no earlier card could.
The Structural ex★ Analog Already in Stock
Suicune V SAR 215/172 from VSTAR Universe (S12a) is the closest available pre-ME07 entry point for this character. It is a Japanese-exclusive Special Art Rare numbered 43 above the VSTAR Universe set ceiling of 172, using exactly the above-ceiling numbering logic that ex★ will employ in ME07.
Current raw price: $38 to $55 depending on seller. PSA 10 examples run $100 to $265. The SAR is not equivalent to an ex★ card, but it occupies the same structural position in the Japanese product hierarchy, above-ceiling and limited to Special Art Rare volume, making it the most accurate available reference for demand concentration before ME07 ships.
Compare that to Raikou V SAR 218/172 and Entei V SAR 213/172, both of which also appear in VSTAR Universe at above-ceiling numbers. Raikou's SAR runs $36 to $39. Entei's runs $27 to $44.
Suicune's SAR floor sits a few dollars higher than Raikou's and clearly above Entei's, which mirrors the Gold Star hierarchy in compressed form. The same order has held across two separate card generations with nothing forcing it except character demand.
Entry Points Below $25: The Sealed and Singles Case
The Knock Out Collection Suicune is the lowest-cost in-stock sealed product with a Suicune card right now. At $16.99 to $20, it includes two booster packs plus a full-art foil Suicune promo card, and it ships without the sellout risk that attached to the ETB wave during 30th Celebration launches.
On the singles side, Shining Fates Shiny Vault SV022/SV122 is currently available at $13.25 USD. It is a full-art Suicune from the Shiny Vault subset, numbered in the SV format that indicates above-base-set rarity. Not a premium-tier card, but a clean modern full-art entry into the character at a price well below what ME07 demand is likely to do to the wider Suicune singles market.
For non-TCG collecting, the Pokémon Fit plush for Suicune (No. 245) runs $13.64 to $24.99 USD depending on the importer. Suicune is one of the few Legendary Pokemon with a Fit plush still in regular circulation, as most Legendary forms in the Fit series run through limited print windows.
The Full Entry-Point Map
Here is where the Suicune market sits right now, before ME07 pricing enters the picture.
At $13.25, Shining Fates Shiny Vault SV022/SV122 is the cheapest modern full-art in the character's TCG history. At $16.99 to $20, the Knock Out Collection gives you a sealed product with the character's full-art promo plus two packs. At $38 to $55, the VSTAR Universe SAR 215/172 is the above-ceiling, Special Art Rare entry that most closely mirrors what ex★ will be.
At $63 to $72, the HGSS21 Black Star Promo is the Crystal-era premium: a holo promo with no set number, tied to the Gold/Silver/Crystal narrative that underlies most of the character's collector premium. The Gold Star 115/115 raw at $1,200 is the ceiling, a PSA 2 example currently listed, with Beckett 7 examples above $3,000.
None of these prices reflect ME07. Aura Seeker has not yet been given an English release date. The ex★ cards are confirmed but not yet released.
The window between confirmation and release is historically when the character's existing card market absorbs the most demand from collectors who cannot yet buy the new card directly.
Three Numbers Worth Knowing Before ME07
Suicune Gold Star: $1,200 raw (PSA 2). That is the floor of graded Gold Star pricing, and the demand signal for ex★.
VSTAR Universe SAR 215/172: $38 to $55 raw. The above-ceiling structural analog available now, before ME07 ships to EN.
Raikou Gold Star raw: approximately $114. Entei Gold Star raw: approximately $65. Both are already published as part of the Aura Seeker three-Beast arc on this site.
Suicune's position at $1,200 is more than ten times Raikou's and more than eighteen times Entei's, from identical 2005 cards in the same set. The same order has never reversed across any later format.
