Team Rocket Tin: The Pack Math, the Promo Premium, and What the Floor Price Actually Buys
By Dexhaul Team · September 30, 2026
The cheapest Team Rocket Tin on the market right now costs $45. Five Destined Rivals sv10 booster packs at current floor rates work out to $47.45 in pack value alone. You are effectively getting the promo card free.
That math only holds for the Nidoking ex variant at the Liberty TCG price point. The Persian ex and Mewtwo ex tins cost more, and the premium is not evenly distributed. Here is what the numbers look like by variant, what the MCAP label on some listings actually means, and whether the $14-plus Mewtwo ex premium is worth paying.
What Is in Every Team Rocket Tin
Every Team Rocket Tin ships with five Destined Rivals sv10 booster packs and one exclusive foil Black Star Promo card from the Scarlet & Violet SVP series. The tin exterior art matches the promo character: Mewtwo ex, Nidoking ex, or Persian ex.
There are no coins, no dice, no deck sleeves, and no code cards. The contents are fixed: five packs, one promo. That fixed structure is what makes the pack-value math precise.
The three promo cards are all holographic SVP Black Star Promos. They are not pullable from any Destined Rivals booster pack; the only way to obtain them in sealed product is through the tin.
The Pack Math by Variant
Destined Rivals sleeved booster packs are available at the floor from MHDEALSPLUS at $9.49 each. Five packs at that rate totals $47.45.
At the $45 Nidoking ex floor (Liberty TCG), the five-pack value exceeds the tin price by $2.45. The promo card is effectively free, and you are buying the packs at a slight discount to the pack-floor rate.
Here is how the promo premium stacks up across the current in-stock floors:
- Nidoking ex at $45.00 (Liberty TCG): pack floor covers $47.45, promo free
- Nidoking ex at $47.99 (Oney Collectibles): $0.54 above pack floor
- Persian ex at $51.00 (Shinobi Collectibles): $3.55 promo premium
- Mewtwo ex at $61.99 (Common Lands): $14.54 promo premium
- Mewtwo ex at $64.99 (Collector Store LLC): $17.54 promo premium
The gap between the Nidoking floor and the Mewtwo floor is $17 for the same five packs and a different foil promo card.
The Promo Premium Broken Down
Team Rocket's Persian ex SVP 218 trades as a standalone single at $1.49 to $2.00 raw. The Persian tin's $3.55 implied promo cost is 1.8 to 2.4 times the single-card price on the open market.
The Mewtwo ex promo situation is structurally different. Very few sellers list the Mewtwo promo as a standalone single; most bundle it exclusively inside the tin. That limited singles supply is what pushes the Mewtwo tin to $62 and above, not the card's intrinsic value.
One clarification that matters: Team Rocket's Mewtwo ex as an SVP Black Star Promo is a different card from Team Rocket's Mewtwo ex SIR 231/182 in Destined Rivals. The SIR is a Special Illustration Rare numbered above the 182-card set ceiling, currently trading at $145 and up.
The tin promo carries a different SVP number, different illustration framing, and a completely separate collector market. Searching for "Team Rocket's Mewtwo ex" returns both products in most shops; they are not interchangeable.
What the MCAP Label Means
The Liberty TCG Nidoking listing is labeled "[MCAP]." MCAP stands for Miscellaneous Cards and Products, a distribution category used by some wholesalers when the exact packaging, tin art, or promo card may vary from what is pictured.
For buyers who only care about the five Destined Rivals packs, an MCAP listing is fine. The packs are the same.
For buyers who want the specific Nidoking ex variant for display or for the SVP Nidoking ex promo specifically, MCAP is a flag. Shopverse's $54.95 listing explicitly names "Team Rocket's Nidoking ex" in the title and does not carry the MCAP designation. The $9.95 price gap between the Liberty TCG floor and the Shopverse listing is essentially what you pay to guarantee the specific variant.
Pokémon TCG: Team Rocket Tin - Mewtwo ex, Nidoking ex, or Persian ex
$53.00 USD
The TCG Pocket Bridge
Mewtwo ex, Persian ex, and Nidoking ex each appear in Team Rocket's Ambition, the Pokémon TCG Pocket expansion that launched August 26. The physical tin and the digital expansion share characters but nothing else. There is no code card inside the tin, no digital unlock, and no crossover mechanic between formats.
For TCG Pocket players looking for a physical foil card representing their digital team, the tin promo is the most direct path. The League Battle Deck at $19.95 also includes Team Rocket's Mewtwo ex in physical form, but as a 60-card prebuilt deck, not a sealed promo foil. Those are different products for different purposes: the deck is a player item, the tin promo is the collector piece.
Which Variant to Buy
The Nidoking tin at $45 is the pack buyer's choice. It is the only variant at the current floor where the pack content justifies the price without paying any character premium.
The Persian ex tin at $51 makes sense for collectors who want a specific named variant or Persian collectors who want the promo. The $3.55 premium above pack value is not a meaningful amount.
The Mewtwo ex tin at $62 and above is a character-demand purchase. The pack math does not support it relative to the other two variants.
It makes sense when you specifically want the Mewtwo SVP promo in sealed tin form, not when you are opening five Destined Rivals packs for efficiency. The Mewtwo ex SIR at $145 is an entirely different collector conversation.
