Oct 2 is here, and the Mewtwo SVP052 GWP window is open at participating US and AU retailers today.

The short version: if you can walk into a GameStop, Best Buy, Hot Topic, Barnes & Noble, or Five Below in the US, or an EB Games, JB Hi-Fi, BIG W, Toymate, or Mr Toys in AU/NZ, a single $15-or-more in-store purchase gets you the SVP052 Mewtwo Illustration Rare promo card at no extra cost. The secondary market for that same card is listing at $39.99–$46 today.

The floor moved since last week. On Sep 30, the floor was $46–$48. Today it sits at $39.99–$41.25 as GWP copies began entering the secondary market from in-store buyers.

That is a predictable but data-confirmed shift: a $6–$8 floor drop in 48 hours.

What Is Actually Happening In Stores Today

The GWP is tied to the 30th Celebration Wave 2 launch. Booster Bundles, Mini Tins, Knock Out Collections, and the Victini ex and Espeon/Umbreon Battle Decks all land today, with Mewtwo SVP052 distributed as a "Gift with Purchase" for any qualifying in-store transaction at participating retailers.

The $15 minimum spend is the key threshold. Anything at or above that figure in the Pokémon TCG section of a participating store qualifies. The official 30th Celebration product page confirmed the Oct 2 date and the retailer list in advance; the window's close date has not been published by The Pokémon Company, which is relevant to the secondary market dynamic explained below.

The promo is in-store only. There is no online redemption path, which is why international buyers and online-only shoppers pay secondary market prices at all.

The Mini Tin Trigger Math

The Mini Tin is the most efficient GWP trigger in the Wave 2 lineup. At MSRP, a single Mini Tin retails for approximately $13–$15 in-store at participating mass-market chains, which meets the $15 threshold while costing less than any other Wave 2 product.

The math: spend roughly $15 on a Mini Tin, receive the SVP052 promo. The promo card lists at $39.99–$44 on the secondary market today. Combined face value of what you take home is approximately $55+, for a $15 in-store outlay.

No other combination in the Wave 2 window produces that ratio. The Booster Bundle ($74.99 MSRP) also triggers the GWP, which is excellent if you planned to buy the Bundle regardless. But if the only goal is the promo card itself, a single Mini Tin is the minimum spend path.

One note: the Mini Tin variants are sold by individual character art, not as a set. Mewtwo, Mew, Pikachu, Eevee, and other designs each ship separately. Any one of them clears the $15 threshold.

What Drives the Secondary Market Even While the Event Is Open

The GWP window close date is not publicly confirmed. That ambiguity keeps the secondary market from collapsing to zero even on launch day: buyers who cannot access a participating store today do not know how long the free-distribution window remains open, so they pay for certainty now rather than risk the event ending before they can get to a store.

This is the structural reason the SVP052 floor did not collapse to $10–$15 once the event opened. The floor softened from $46–$48 to $39.99–$41.25, not to zero. Sellers of GWP copies are competing against each other, not against free.

Historical analog: most promo GWP events run for two to four weeks at participating retailers, with stock lasting varying amounts of time depending on foot traffic. The Pokémon Company has not announced a specific end date publicly for this one.

The Knock Out Collection and Booster Bundle as GWP Triggers

Both the Knock Out Collection and the Booster Bundle clear the $15 threshold comfortably. The Knock Out Collection lists at $29.95–$36 across independent sellers today, and it includes three 30th Celebration booster packs plus an exclusive Eevee foil promo, making it the entry-level sealed product in the Wave 2 range if you want both packs and the GWP.

The Booster Bundle is the highest-value Wave 2 product per pack. Six packs at the floor price of $84.95 works out to $14.16 per pack, well below the Wave 2 ETB rate. If you were going to buy the Booster Bundle anyway, the GWP is a pure bonus that costs you nothing on top of an already efficient purchase.

The decision comes down to what you want from Wave 2:

  • Mini Tin: minimum spend (~$15 MSRP), one pack, GWP.
  • Knock Out Collection: $30–$36, three packs, exclusive Eevee promo, GWP.
  • Booster Bundle: $85–$90, six packs, best per-pack rate, GWP.

What Online and International Buyers Should Do

If you cannot get to a participating retailer today, the current floor is your data point: $39.99 at Elite 4 Trading Card Game, $41.25 at Littleroot Games, $42.00 at MissingNo and Card Dynasty.

The floor is likely near its lowest point today, because the event is open and in-store buyers who want to flip GWP copies are listing now. Once the in-store redemption window closes, supply contracts and the floor historically stabilizes or recovers toward pre-event prices.

For AU buyers: the local AU secondary market listing sits at A$99 (Urban Empire Collectables), which is roughly $64 USD. The US listings with international shipping remain the more cost-efficient path for AU collectors who missed the local retailer event, assuming sellers ship internationally and shipping costs are confirmed before ordering.

One thing to watch: the SVP052 carries the Pokémon 30 anniversary mark alongside the "What's Your Favorite" campaign logo. That dual-logo combination on a single promo card is relatively unusual.

Most GWP promos carry one campaign mark. Whether that structural detail affects long-term value is speculative and not a guaranteed outcome, but it is the card's distinguishing feature versus standard Black Star promo reprints.

A Note on Supply After Today

Participating retailers receive a finite allocation of GWP cards. Some locations will exhaust supply before the promotional window closes, especially high-traffic stores in major metro areas. Calling ahead or checking with staff before making the trip is reasonable for anyone who has not confirmed their local store still has promo cards available.

Online listings confirm at least partial supply remains as of this writing. The window for in-store redemption is finite; the secondary market will persist regardless, but the price floor is today's data.
