Turtwig Collector's Guide 2026: 30th Anniversary Promo, Key TCG Singles, and Every Entry Point

Today the Japanese Sinnoh Card Set gives Turtwig its first dedicated 30th Anniversary promo card.

The Grass-type Sinnoh starter has a quieter collector profile than Chimchar or Piplup, but its pricing structure rewards buyers who know where to look. The highest-floor TCG single is a 2007 event promo, not a modern alt-art.

The only English sealed product to ever headline Torterra pairs the Sinnoh final evolution with an Alolan starter from a completely different generation. And in the First Partner Illustration Collection, Turtwig's promo trades at a 20-400% discount to Chimchar's despite identical rarity and the same product box.

This guide covers the 30th Anniversary promo launch, the key TCG singles across 19 years, the Torterra ex Special Collection, and every plush entry point currently in stock.

The 30th Anniversary Promo: September 16 and the Sinnoh Card Set

The Japanese Sinnoh Card Set released today as a companion to the English 30th Celebration set.

It contains three Sinnoh starter anniversary promos under the M-P designation: Turtwig, Chimchar, and Piplup. This is the only product in the 30th Anniversary release window that includes Turtwig in a dedicated anniversary art format. The English 30th Celebration set features Chimchar as a promo card distributed through the Tech Sticker Collection, but English-market buyers have no path to Turtwig or Piplup in anniversary foil except through the Japanese set.

As documented on Bulbapedia's Turtwig entry, Turtwig's National Pokédex number is 387. The Sinnoh starters are sequential in Pokédex order: Turtwig (387), Chimchar (390), Piplup (393). In the Sinnoh Card Set, their promo numbering follows the same structure.

The Sinnoh Card Set at $94.00 is the only way to own all three Sinnoh starter anniversary promos in a single sealed purchase. Buying the three singles separately from secondary market sellers adds handling friction without a price advantage at current listings.

TCG Singles: 19 Years of Turtwig Cards

Turtwig first appeared in the Pokémon TCG with the Diamond & Pearl base set in 2007.

Its highest-priced individual card in the current market is not a modern alt-art or a Secret Rare. It is the DP01 Black Star Promo, distributed at launch events during the Diamond & Pearl retail release window.

At $44.99 raw, the DP01 outprices every standard-rarity Turtwig single from the past five years because event promos from the DP era have a documented scarcity floor. No subsequent set has issued Turtwig as the headline Pokémon on a high-rarity single in the English TCG.

Below the DP01, modern singles occupy a very different price range. The Temporal Forces set (2024) includes Turtwig 010/162 as a standard Reverse Holo available under $2 at multiple shops.

First Partner Illustration Collection Turtwig 040 is listed in the single-digit price range. Turtwig 78/100 from Majestic Dawn (2008) remains available at CA$4.98.

The price pattern is straightforward: distribution scarcity drives the floor for DP-era event promos; modern standard-set Turtwig cards price as commodity singles because the character has not been selected as a chase card in any SV or SWSH set.

The Incineroar and Torterra ex Special Collection

This is the only English sealed TCG product to ever headline Torterra as a primary Pokémon.

Every other Turtwig and Torterra appearance in English TCG sealed products has been as a bundled or minor inclusion. The Incineroar & Torterra ex Special Collection changes that, pairing Torterra's final evolution with Incineroar from the Alola region.

The cross-generational pairing is unusual in TCG product design: Incineroar is a Fire/Dark-type from Gen 7, while Torterra is a Grass/Ground-type from Gen 4. No shared in-game history connects them. The product pairs them by collector demand and competitive profile, not by lore.

$93.69 USD

The box includes eight booster packs along with the exclusive Torterra ex and Incineroar ex promo cards. Price spread across active listings runs from $93.69 (The Ballers Bank) to $144.00 (Side Kicks UK). The $50 spread is pure seller-margin variance: same product, same contents, no version difference.

For Turtwig collectors who want a sealed product with Torterra as the featured card, this box is the only current English option. No Elite Trainer Box, Special Collection, or Battle Deck in the English TCG has previously positioned Torterra as a headline Pokémon.

Plush: Three Lines at Three Price Points

Turtwig has consistent coverage across the main Japanese import plush lines.

The Pokémon fit line ($17.00 at Ichiba Japan) is the standard-entry plush: palm-sized, weighted base, designed to stand for display. This is the same line used for most Sinnoh starters in the Japanese Pokémon Center range. The All Star Collection (Sanei Boeki) offers a slightly larger Turtwig at $19.00, using denser plush material than the fit line.

The Pokémon Center large Poké Plush reaches $56.29 to $87.34 depending on size variant, imported through specialty US resellers. Both sizes are currently in stock.

For non-plush display options, the Bandai Plamo Evolution Set ($16.00) includes snap-fit model kits for Turtwig, Grotle, and Torterra alongside a Pikachu, all with color-matched parts. It is the only product in the current UCP catalogue that lets collectors display the full Turtwig evolutionary line in a single purchase.

What Chimchar's Premium Tells Turtwig Collectors

In the First Partner Illustration Collection Series 1, Turtwig promo 040 and Chimchar promo 041 come from the same box at identical rarity.

Chimchar commands a 20-400% premium over Turtwig raw despite being the same product tier. The driver is anime character attachment: Ash's Chimchar and Infernape arc generated years of fan demand that has no equivalent in Turtwig's narrative role.

Turtwig was Dawn's starter in the Diamond & Pearl anime, but the storyline did not generate the same long-running competitive arc. This asymmetry is entirely about character popularity, not print run or rarity.

The practical implication for collectors is the reverse of what the framing suggests. Turtwig buyers pay a lower premium for the same sealed products.

The First Partner Illustration Collection Turtwig set-of-three from MOONROAD priced below equivalent Chimchar purchases. The Sinnoh Card Set at $94 includes all three starter promos for buyers who want all three without paying Chimchar-tier singles prices.

Torterra has no Mega Evolution in the main series games. Kanto and Hoenn starters all received Mega forms in the X/Y and ORAS era; Sinnoh starters did not.

This is reflected in the TCG card ceiling: Mega Venusaur EX and Mega Blastoise EX both reached secondary market premiums in the EX era that Torterra has never approached. For collectors focused on Turtwig specifically, this means the character's highest single-card value is anchored to distribution scarcity (the DP01 promo) rather than competitive card design.

The Sinnoh Stars Mini Tin

One additional sealed product worth knowing: the Sinnoh Stars Mini Tin featuring Turtwig and Luxray.

At $29.95, it is currently available in the UCP catalogue and provides a Turtwig-fronted tin format for display collectors. The Sinnoh Stars series uses Sinnoh region Pokémon artwork across its tin variants.
