Wooper is the same species listed twice in your Pokedex, and the collector market treats the two entries as almost entirely separate.

The original Johto Wooper (#194, Water/Ground) has a TCG history dating to Neo Genesis in 2000, a modest plush lineup, and a collector ceiling anchored in Shiny Vault scarcity. Paldean Wooper, introduced in Scarlet and Violet, swaps the Water type for Poison and evolves into Clodsire instead of Quagsire.

These two lines share a name, a number, and a silhouette. Beyond that, almost every buy decision is separate.

Here is how each track works.

The Johto Original in the TCG

Wooper 82/111 from Neo Genesis (2000) is a common card. It carries the modest price you would expect: $7 to $12 for a 1st Edition copy in Near Mint, and under $1 for Unlimited. There is no competitive legacy behind Wooper, no holo finish, and no modern ex reprint to drive attention back to the original print.

The highest-value Wooper card in the English market is not the WOTC original.

Wooper SV9/SV94 from Hidden Fates Shiny Vault (2019) depicts the Johto form in its shiny blue-gray coloration, a treatment reserved for the vault subset that drove Hidden Fates to secondary-market premiums long after its print window closed. Current raw prices run $26 to $28, roughly three times the Neo Genesis 1st Edition printed 19 years earlier. The gap is entirely a function of distribution: Hidden Fates had restricted availability from the start, and the SV9/SV94 Shiny Vault Wooper has stayed within that collector tier rather than drifting toward bulk.

On the merch side, the Johto Wooper sits in a smaller catalogue than its Paldean counterpart. The Pokemon fit plush covers the original form at $17 to $28 depending on the seller, in the small seated-pose format Ichiba Japan imports regularly.

There is also a Sitting Cuties variant at $23 from Joe's Japan Plushies. Neither has the volume of Paldean-specific Banpresto releases.

Quagsire: The Original Evolution Line

Quagsire (Water/Ground) is Wooper's evolution from the original line. Its TCG entries lean toward the Neo-era sets, where both Neo Genesis 45/111 and Neo Revelation 48/64 exist as non-holo rares.

Neo Genesis copies trade at $8 to $11 in Near Mint. Neo Revelation 1st Edition raw NM copies run about $27.

The PSA 10 ceiling on Neo Revelation Quagsire 48/64 1st Edition reaches $437. That premium reflects graded population scarcity on a small-distribution WOTC set rather than chase-card demand: raw copies are affordable, but a PSA 10 represents a genuinely rare outcome on a print run that did not receive the same volume as Base Set or Jungle.

Quagsire's plush range sits primarily in the San-ei Boeki ALL STAR COLLECTION line: the PP203 standard (S size, $21) and the PM48 mascot ($18), both available through Ichiba Japan. Animota carries a Meccha Mofugutto Quagsire at $59 for collectors who want a large-format Banpresto piece. There is no Quagsire in the Sitting Cuties or Pokedoll lines currently in stock.

Paldean Wooper: A Completely Different Line

Paldean Wooper debuted with Scarlet and Violet (November 2022) as one of the first regional variants confirmed for the Paldea region. The type change removes Water entirely. Paldean Wooper is Poison/Ground, and its evolution Clodsire carries the same typing.

The Water type disappears from the full line once Paldean Wooper evolves into Clodsire. That creates entirely separate competitive and collector dynamics: Clodsire fills a Poison/Ground defensive role with no overlap with Quagsire's Water/Ground niche.

Paldean Fates (sv4.5, January 2024) is the key set for both forms simultaneously. In its common and uncommon block, Wooper occupies card number 057/091 and Paldean Wooper sits at 058/091, consecutive numbers in the same set.

Paldean Clodsire ex follows at 059/091 as the first Double Rare ex for the regional evolution. This is the only English set where both Wooper forms and the Paldean evolution appear with adjacent card numbers.

Collecting the full Wooper species picture from Paldean Fates means buying into both the 057 and 058 slots.

Paldean Fates also includes the Paldean Clodsire ex Shiny Ultra Rare (219/091) at $5 to $25 raw, which applies the same foil treatment that made Hidden Fates Shiny Vault cards collector targets. The Paldean Clodsire ex Double Rare at $3 is one of the most accessible ex-rarity entries in the SV catalogue. The SUR at $5 to $25 offers the premium art tier at a fraction of what comparable SUR prices run in sets like Paradox Rift or Temporal Forces.

The Paldean Wooper Plush Market

Paldean Wooper accumulated more dedicated plush formats in three years than Johto Wooper did in over twenty. The Mofugutto Banpresto line alone covers the Paldean form in three distinct releases: the standard Mofugutto at $32, the Relaxing Time pose at $28, and a China-market "Adorable Wooper" mascot at $27.

The Pokemon Center Japan original plush for Paldean Wooper runs $41 through Toys Store Japan. It is a larger seated format than the Pokemon fit series and uses official Pokemon Center Japan production rather than Banpresto prize-machine stock.

The one product that bridges both forms is the Pokemon Focus Wooper and Paldean Wooper Banpresto pair plush at $25. It presents both forms at matched scale in a single display unit.

Buying a Johto Wooper Pokemon fit ($17) and a Paldean Wooper Mofugutto ($32) separately covers both forms for $49 across two shelf positions. The pair plush delivers the same "both forms represented" result for $25 in a single footprint.

For collectors who want to show the regional contrast without managing two separate displays, it is the only product in the catalogue built explicitly for that purpose.

A Paldean Wooper Potehagu Cushion at $75 from Yeti Gaming rounds out the Paldean soft-goods range at the high end, a large-format cushion format that neither the Johto line nor most other regional form Pokémon have in the current English import market.

Which Form Is the Priority Buy?

The two lines answer different collecting questions.

Johto Wooper is the right target if you are building a complete Gen 2 species run, chasing WOTC-era commons for 1st Edition completeness, or specifically after the Hidden Fates Shiny Vault treatment. The TCG ceiling is modest, the Quagsire Neo Revelation graded market is narrow, and the plush catalogue is small. Lower entry cost across every tier.

Paldean Wooper is the play if you want current-production merchandise with more format variety, a lower-cost ex-rarity entry in the Paldean Clodsire ex Double Rare, or the Pokemon Center Japan plush. The SUR at under $25 is underpriced relative to comparable Shiny Ultra Rares from higher-profile sets. The Mofugutto and pair plush formats exist only for the Paldean line.

Neither form has an SIR, Illustration Rare, or Special Collection in the current English market. Both remain accessible. The pair plush is the cleanest answer if you want both represented and are starting fresh.
