Caterpie
Caterpie is the Bug-type Worm Pokemon, Pokedex number 010, and one of the earliest wild Pokemon players encounter in Viridian Forest in Red and Blue. It has a base stat total of just 195 but evolves quickly: Caterpie becomes Metapod at level 7 and Butterfree at level 10, making it one of the fastest evolution lines in the game.
In the Pokemon anime, Ash caught a Caterpie in episode 3 of the original series, making it his first-ever capture. The Caterpie evolved into Metapod that same episode and into Butterfree shortly after. Caterpie's two abilities are Shield Dust, which blocks secondary effects from moves, and the hidden Run Away, which guarantees escape from wild battles. It has appeared in the TCG since Base Set and is a common sight in entry-level and theme deck products. Small Caterpie plush and figures are widely available as affordable collector items.
