Phantasmal Flames vs Perfect Order ETB: Which to Buy (2026)
By Dexhaul Team · October 15, 2026 · 5 min read
Buy Phantasmal Flames (ME02) if you want the exclusive Charcadet promo card or are pulling for Mega Charizard ex as your set target. Buy Perfect Order (ME03) if you want the best-value nine-pack Mega Evolution ETB available right now and the Kalos-era roster is the draw.
The gap between these two boxes is almost entirely price. Both contain nine booster packs and a full accessories kit. The ME02 ETB adds an exclusive full-art foil promo. ME03 does not. That one difference, amplified by Mega Charizard ex's ongoing demand, produces an $80 floor difference between the two boxes as of October 2026.
Here is every confirmed difference, in plain terms.

Where Phantasmal Flames (ME02) wins
An exclusive promo card in every retail box
The standard Phantasmal Flames ETB includes a full-art foil Charcadet promo card not available in any booster pack from the set. You can only obtain it through this ETB or the Pokémon Center exclusive version.
Perfect Order's standard retail ETB ships with no promo card. The Tyrunt promo card is reserved for the ME03 Pokémon Center ETB, which carries its own higher price point. If you want a promo card from a standard ME03 retail buy, it does not exist.
Mega Charizard ex as the SIR pull target
Phantasmal Flames features three pack art variants: Mega Charizard X, Mega Heracross, and Mega Lopunny. All three draw from the same card pool, and the set's headliner Special Illustration Rare is Mega Charizard ex.
Charizard consistently drives the highest search and collector interest in any Pokémon TCG set it appears in. For buyers whose primary motivation is pulling the set's SIR, ME02 provides that specific target. ME03 does not feature Charizard in its pack art or as its set headliner.
Complete ME02 set coverage with accessories
The Phantasmal Flames ETB is the only sealed format that delivers the Charcadet promo alongside a full accessories kit: sleeves, Energy cards, acrylic status markers, damage-counter dice, a coin, set guide, and a collector's storage box.
For anyone building a complete Mega Evolution era collection, each set's ETB is the one product that bundles everything a new player needs to get started with that set. ME02's accessories kit matches ME03's in all standard respects, with the addition of the acrylic status markers.
Where Perfect Order (ME03) wins
Lower floor price with no premium for Charizard
The floor difference between ME02 and ME03 ETBs is approximately $80 at observed prices in October 2026. That gap exists because of Mega Charizard ex, not because ME03 is a lesser product.
Both boxes deliver the same nine packs and the same accessories kit. The ME03 buyer who has no interest in Charizard or in the Charcadet promo is not missing a meaningful feature. They are simply not paying for someone else's pull target.
Kalos-era roster and Zygarde focus
The Perfect Order set covers Kalos-era Mega Pokémon and features Zygarde, Talonflame, and the broader XY-era roster. For collectors whose focus is the Kalos region, ME03 is the Mega Evolution era set where those Pokémon appear as primary pull targets.
The 124-card total (88 numbered plus 36 secret rares) makes ME03 a full-depth set alongside ME02's comparable scope.
Tyrunt promo through the PC ETB
If an exclusive promo matters to you, the Perfect Order Pokémon Center ETB offers a Tyrunt promo card not available in standard retail. The PC ETB carries a premium over the standard box but lands at a lower absolute price than ME02's standard ETB at current floors.
That is the only path to a ME03 exclusive promo card, and it is available now from independent shops.
The deciding question
The choice comes down to one thing: are you buying for Mega Charizard ex, or are you buying for nine packs and a complete accessory kit?
If Mega Charizard ex is your target or the Charcadet promo is meaningful to you, ME02 is the correct buy regardless of the price difference. No other retail product in the ME02 lineup delivers both the promo and the full accessories.
If neither of those is your reason for buying, ME03 gives you the same pack count and the same accessories at a materially lower price. For players who already own sleeves, dice, and Energy cards, the ME03 floor per pack is among the lowest in the Mega Evolution era right now.
For gift buyers, ME02 reads as the more complete package at first glance because of the promo card. ME03 is the more practical gift if the recipient is a player rather than a collector chasing specific sets.
Frequently asked questions
Does the Phantasmal Flames ETB include a promo card?
Yes. The standard Phantasmal Flames ME02 Elite Trainer Box includes a full-art foil Charcadet promo card not available in any booster pack. It is exclusive to the ETB and the Pokémon Center version of the box.
Does the Perfect Order ETB include a promo card?
No. The standard Perfect Order ME03 Elite Trainer Box does not include a standalone promo card. The Tyrunt promo card is only available through the separate Pokémon Center exclusive ME03 ETB.
Why is Phantasmal Flames more expensive than Perfect Order?
Phantasmal Flames (ME02) features Mega Charizard ex as its headliner Special Illustration Rare. Charizard-set premiums consistently lift secondary market prices above the floor for other sets in the same era. Perfect Order (ME03) does not feature Charizard and trades near its launch price as a result.
Are the packs the same across both ETBs?
No. Each ETB contains packs from its own set. Phantasmal Flames packs draw from the ME02 card pool; Perfect Order packs draw from ME03. The sets do not share card pools, so there is no duplication if you buy both.
Which is better as a gift?
Phantasmal Flames reads as the more complete gift because of the Charcadet promo card included in the box. Perfect Order is the better choice if budget matters and the recipient is primarily a player rather than a collector chasing a specific set's SIR.
