30th Celebration Futuristic Rares: Buy Now or Wait for Oct 2?

Mewtwo ex FUR is at $73. That is the answer.

Twelve days after the 30th Celebration set launched on September 16, the floor on the Futuristic Rare tier has reset to its lowest point. Mew ex FUR has fallen further and faster.

Oct 2 brings the Booster Bundle, the first major new pack-opening event since launch day. Whether you buy now or wait depends on which card you want and how much more supply you think Oct 2 adds.

Where Prices Are Right Now

The 30th Celebration set carries exactly two Futuristic Rares: Mewtwo ex 157/128 and Mew ex 158/128. No other rarity tier in the set is this narrow. Every FUR entering the secondary market comes from the same 128-card pool with no rotation.

Here is what the price trajectory looks like by day:

  • Day 0 (Sep 16 launch): Mewtwo FUR asks at $1,026; Mew FUR asks at $1,400.
  • Day 6 (Sep 22): Mewtwo FUR floor at $82; Mew FUR floor at $150.
  • Day 8 (Sep 24): Mewtwo FUR floor at $79; Mew FUR floor at $117.
  • Day 12 (Sep 28): Mewtwo FUR floor at $73; Mew FUR floor at $94.

The speculative peak collapsed within the first 48 hours, which was expected. What is more interesting is what has happened since day 6.

Mewtwo FUR has declined 7.5% in the last four days. Mew FUR has declined 20% in the same window.

Those are two different velocity signals, and they matter when deciding which card to prioritize.

What Oct 2 Actually Means for Supply

October 2 is four days away. The 30th Celebration Booster Bundle launches that day: six packs per bundle, at a $84.95 floor. This is the first large-format cracking event since launch week, and it will add meaningful FUR supply to the secondary market.

The Booster Bundle was intentionally held to Oct 2, separate from the Sep 16 wave. It shares the same card pool as every 30th Celebration booster pack. More opening volume means more FURs reaching sellers, which applies downward pressure on the floor.

How much pressure? That depends on how many bundles get cracked in the week after Oct 2. Pull rates for above-set cards in the ME series are not published.

The two FURs in 30C are among the rarest cards in the set. Expect meaningful new supply, not a flood.

Mewtwo FUR vs Mew FUR: Two Different Plays

Mewtwo ex FUR 157/128 is the set's headline card. Its decline has slowed. The 7.5% drop over four days suggests the market is approaching a collector floor rather than a freefall.

Buyers who want Mewtwo FUR and are comfortable at $73–$79 have a reasonable case for buying now. Character demand provides a baseline that the Mew card lacks.

Mew ex FUR 158/128 is a different situation. On September 24 it traded at a 32–69% premium over Mewtwo FUR.

Today that premium has compressed to roughly 29%. The gap is still narrowing, and Mew's 20% decline in four days is the steeper of the two curves.

The compression makes sense. Mew's early premium was driven by perceived scarcity, fewer active sellers, and opening-week hype.

As more copies reached the market and early buyers rotated out, that scarcity story dissolved. Post-Oct 2, if opening volume is similar to launch-week cracking, Mew FUR could approach $80 within two weeks.

Japanese Futuristic Box: The Math Has Changed

At launch, the Japanese Futuristic Box (which contains both FUR cards plus 30-plus packs) was priced at a roughly 5x premium over the combined English FUR floor. Today, with Mewtwo FUR at $73 and Mew FUR at $94, that combined English floor is $167.

The Japanese Futuristic Box currently lists between $495 and $619. That is a 3x to 3.7x premium for no card advantage over buying the two singles directly.

The box has a legitimate use case: if you want the full Japanese sealed-product experience with the bonus packs, it is a different purchase. But if your goal is to own both FURs, buying English singles is now dramatically cheaper than it was at launch, and the gap has widened as English prices corrected faster than Japanese sealed product.

The Verdict

Buy Mewtwo ex FUR now. The $73 floor represents a 93% correction from the launch-day ask, the decline rate has slowed, and character demand gives it more collector-floor support than Mew.

Wait on Mew ex FUR. The 20% four-day drop signals the floor is not in yet.

Post-Oct 2, as Booster Bundle packs hit the market, Mew FUR has room to correct further. The convergence toward parity with Mewtwo FUR is ongoing, not complete.

Neither card is a value pick in the traditional sense. FUR is a novelty rarity tier with exactly two members in one set.

There is no precedent for how these hold long-term, and no graded population data exists yet to anchor any grading premium. Buy because you want to own the card, not as a hedge.

The seller spread at $73 to $90 for Mewtwo FUR tells you that market equilibrium has not fully set. Floor buyers at $73 are getting a real discount versus the $90 asks still lingering from earlier in the week.
