30th Celebration Futuristic Rares: Where the Market Landed
By Dexhaul Team · September 24, 2026
Mewtwo ex FUR 157/128 opened at $1,026 on launch day.
Eight days later it floors at $78.99. That collapse tells you most of what you need to know about the current Futuristic Rare market, but the full picture is more interesting than a single price drop.
This is where both English FUR cards stand right now, what the SIR comparison reveals, and whether the Japanese Futuristic Box still makes sense as a purchase path.
What Is a Futuristic Rare?
Futuristic Rare (FUR) is a new rarity tier that debuted with ME: 30th Celebration on September 16, 2026. The set's structure on Bulbapedia confirms the designation: FUR cards are numbered above the 128-card set total, sitting at 157/128 and 158/128.
Two cards in English. That is the entire FUR tier: Mewtwo ex and Mew ex.
Every card in the 30th Celebration set carries holofoil treatment, but FUR goes further. The artwork uses YOSHIROTTEN's vivid illustration style with 3D-rendered Energy symbols and layered composition.
Structurally, FUR sits above the Special Illustration Rare (SIR) tier in the same set. In standard Scarlet and Violet sets, alt arts sit above SIR; here, FUR replaces that slot as the ceiling rarity.
Mewtwo ex FUR 157/128: The Price Collapse in Numbers
On launch day, September 16, verified open-day sales for Mewtwo ex FUR started at $1,026. Six days later, on September 22, the floor had dropped to $82. Today, September 24, the floor sits at $78.99 at multiple sellers, with $89 representing the mid-range ask.
That is a 92.3% decline in eight days.
For comparison: Prismatic Evolutions Umbreon ex SIR took roughly three weeks to settle from its launch-week peak into a stable trading range. The FUR collapse is meaningfully faster, which reflects the gap between speculative opening-day volume and real collector demand establishing a floor.
The $78.99–$89 range is where multiple independent sellers are pricing right now, without a wide spread between the lowest and mid-tier ask. That convergence typically signals the market has found its level, though "stable" in the first two weeks post-launch carries its own caveats. Prices documented here represent current storefront listings and will move.
Mew ex FUR 158/128: The More Expensive Half
Mew ex FUR 158/128 trades above Mewtwo ex FUR, despite Mewtwo being the set's more prominent headliner.
The current range: $117 at NexPack Collectibles on the low end, $150 at Nexus TCG. That puts Mew ex FUR 32–69% above the Mewtwo ex FUR floor.
This is not a recent anomaly. On launch day, Mew ex FUR's first verified sale came in at $1,400, above Mewtwo ex FUR's $1,026 opening.
Mew's higher launch floor reflected a perceived pull-rate difference in early open-day distribution. Whether that difference is real or a sampling artifact of limited early pulls is harder to establish now, but the pricing gap persisted through the first week of settlement and holds today.
For collectors targeting one card: Mewtwo ex FUR is the lower-cost entry. For completing the two-card FUR tier, the combined floor is roughly $196 ($78.99 + $117).
The FUR-SIR Price Inversion
Here is the most counterintuitive data point in the current market.
Mewtwo ex SIR 151/128 is currently flooring at $89.56 across multiple sellers, with mid-range asks at $102. Mewtwo ex FUR 157/128, the nominally higher-tier card, floors at $78.99. The SIR is trading at or above the FUR.
Both cards are numbered above the 128-card set total. Both are holofoil. The FUR carries a newer rarity designation and a different artwork style.
On paper, the FUR is the ceiling card. In the current market, the SIR is the higher-priced of the two.
What explains it? The SIR format is familiar to buyers: it is the same rarity structure as every Scarlet and Violet alt art above set total. Collectors know what they are buying.
FUR's novelty premium was priced into the $1,026 launch floor, and when that speculation cleared, FUR settled below SIR because SIR's demand base is steadier and broader. Players who want competitive Mewtwo ex builds know the SIR. The FUR's unique selling point is aesthetic novelty, and at $79 it is now a genuine value buy if the YOSHIROTTEN artwork appeals to you.
Whether SIR maintains its premium as the set ages is a question without a clean answer, but the inversion is real today and worth knowing before you decide which tier to buy.
The Japanese Futuristic Box: When It Makes Sense
The Japanese M6a Futuristic Box contains both Mewtwo ex FUR (134/103 in the Japanese numbering) and Mew ex FUR (135/103) as guaranteed pulls, alongside the full Japanese 30th Celebration booster set contents.
Current English-language seller pricing for the box runs $619.19 at Omotenashi TCG on the low end, up to $748 at others. The math against English singles: $78.99 + $117 = $195.99 for both FUR cards combined.
The box costs roughly 3.1x the English singles floor. That premium covers the Japanese print versions (different card numbering, Japanese text), the sealed collector product experience, and the full booster set contents.
If you want the Japanese FUR art treatments specifically, or if you are building a complete Japanese M6a set, the box has a clear use case. If you want to own the FUR cards as English collector singles, buying them individually is the lower-cost path by a significant margin.
The Two-Card Tier: Why FUR Is Unusual as a Completionist Target
Every other rarity tier in ME: 30th Celebration has multiple members. Double Rare, Illustration Rare, Special Illustration Rare: each tier covers several Pokémon across the set. FUR has exactly two cards in English.
That structure makes FUR the most compact premium tier in any SV-era set. Completing it means acquiring two singles.
There is no third FUR card to chase, no chase within the tier. Limitless TCG's 30C card list confirms 157/128 and 158/128 as the complete FUR pair.
For set completionists, that simplicity is useful information. You are not hunting across 8–12 SIR equivalents to finish the tier. The target is just the psychic legendary pair, one card each.
What the Numbers Say Right Now
Mewtwo ex FUR 157/128: $78.99–$89. Mew ex FUR 158/128: $117–$150. The FUR pair combined: roughly $196–$239 at current seller floors.
The FUR-SIR inversion is the headline. Mewtwo ex SIR 151/128 is outpricing Mewtwo ex FUR 157/128 today.
Whether that gap closes, widens, or reverses over the coming months depends on how the set ages in graded populations and collector demand over the 30th anniversary window. As of this writing, eight days post-launch, the FUR floor has settled and the speculative premium has cleared.
