The right Ascended Heroes product depends entirely on which Pokémon you're collecting. Pick the wrong tier and you'll spend $170 chasing a Pokémon that's also available in a $55 box. Or the reverse: spend $55 and wonder why Mega Lucario isn't included.
Ascended Heroes is part of the Mega Evolution wave launching August 28. The set features Mega Evolutions that never existed in the original games, created specifically for the TCG. Different product types within the lineup feature completely different Pokémon, not just different quantities of the same cards.
That's the detail most buyers miss.
Here's how each tier breaks down.

Tiers 1 and 2 serve the same Pokémon at different formats and pack counts. Tiers 3, 4, and 5 are the places you go if the Johto starters aren't what you're after.
Tier 2: The EX Boxes ($55–$65)
If you already picked up a tin, the EX Box is the next step up on the same characters. Each box is specific to one of the three Johto starter Mega Evolutions: Mega Feraligatr ex, Mega Meganium ex, or Mega Emboar ex. You get more booster packs than a tin and a designated promo card for your chosen starter.
The price spread is real. OV Games LLC lists the box at $55.00 while Galactic Toys puts the Mega Meganium ex version at $64.95. A random-variant listing saves the difference if you don't have a preferred starter.
If you do have a preference, picking your specific Mega Evolution costs slightly more but makes sense for a focused collection.
The EX Box works best for players who want a specific starter's promo card alongside opening packs. Collectors focused on the set's rarest pulls should note that the EX Box pack contents are the same Ascended Heroes booster packs as the tins. You're paying for the promo and presentation, not access to exclusive cards.
Tier 3: The First Partners Deluxe Pin Collection ($51–$85)
This one surprises most buyers. It's also an Ascended Heroes product, but it doesn't feature Feraligatr, Meganium, or Emboar. The three foil promo cards are Chikorita, Tepig, and Totodile: earlier-stage starters, not Mega Evolutions.
The collection includes three foil promo cards, one deluxe enamel pin, and five Ascended Heroes booster packs. The pin is the defining feature. At $51–$85 depending on the seller, this is priced at or slightly above the EX Box despite containing fewer packs.
You're paying for the pin and the multi-starter promo set.
Pokémon TCG: Mega Evolution Ascended Heroes First Partners Deluxe Pin Collection

The target buyer for this collection is someone who collects enamel pins alongside their TCG products, or who wants promo art of younger-stage starters rather than their Mega Evolutions. For pure pack value, the EX Box wins. For the pin and multi-starter promo combination, this is the only Ascended Heroes product that delivers it.
Tier 4: The Premium Poster Collection ($145–$278)
Here's the critical detail. The Premium Poster Collection is the only Ascended Heroes product that features Mega Lucario and Mega Gardevoir. No cheaper entry exists for either of them in this product line.
Two variants: one centers on Mega Lucario, the other on Mega Gardevoir. Both contain booster packs, a premium large-format poster, and a foil promo card for that specific Pokémon.
The Mega Lucario version is easier to find in US markets, running $164.95 at Sports-card-zone and $170 at Trading Card Market. The Mega Gardevoir version shows up more often through European sellers, around €219.90.
The $278 listing at Stadium Goods is an outlier. If Mega Lucario is your target, $164–$180 is a reasonable current range from established sellers.
Stadium Goods is a resale-focused platform and their pricing reflects secondary market rates. The gap between $165 and $278 for the same sealed box is worth paying attention to before you buy.
Tier 5: The Set of 2 ($299+)
Stomping Grounds bundles both the Mega Lucario and Mega Gardevoir Premium Poster Collections for $299. That's roughly the cost of buying each separately at the lower-end sellers, with the convenience of a single transaction. For collectors who want the full poster duo and don't want to source each variant independently, this option makes practical sense.
At $586 from Gameology (Australia), the pair pricing reflects import shipping and regional market rates. Shop comparisons matter more at this price tier than at any other in the lineup.
How to Choose
Start with the Pokémon, not the format. The Ascended Heroes roster splits cleanly across tiers.
You want Mega Feraligatr, Mega Meganium, or Mega Emboar
The tins and EX Boxes are your range. Tins at around $21.99 MSRP are the lowest-cost entry. EX Boxes at $55–$65 give you a specific character promo and more packs.
Both formats pull from the same booster pool. The question is how many packs you want and whether you need a designated character box.
You want the multi-starter promo set and an enamel pin
The First Partners Deluxe Pin Collection is the only option. Chikorita, Tepig, and Totodile appear here and nowhere else in the Ascended Heroes lineup.
The pin is the product's differentiator. If you don't collect pins, the EX Box is better value per pack.
You want Mega Lucario or Mega Gardevoir
Premium Poster Collection only. There is no lower-cost entry point for either of these within Ascended Heroes. The $165–$170 range at Sports-card-zone and Trading Card Market is the floor for a specific variant; the $190 listings at Rémi Card Trader add a few dollars for Canadian-market availability.
You want both premium poster Pokémon
The Stomping Grounds set-of-2 at $299 is the most efficient option if individual sellers are priced close to $150 each. If one variant is significantly cheaper somewhere else, buying separately could be the better call.
The Timing Factor
Ascended Heroes launches August 28. Pre-order listings are live now across multiple independent sellers, and the price spread is already wide.
For the tins and EX Boxes, launch-week availability should be broad: these are the volume products in the lineup. The Premium Poster Collection is a different story.
Limited-print premium box sets historically move in the first week and then appear mainly in secondary markets at higher prices. If Mega Lucario or Mega Gardevoir is your goal, acting before the launch date is a reasonable approach while seller stock is still at current pricing.
