Pokémon Card Sleeve Size Chart: What Fits (2026)

Standard Pokémon cards measure 63 × 88 mm, and standard outer sleeves run 66 × 91 mm. That 3 mm of clearance is intentional: it gives you room to insert and remove cards cleanly, and it leaves enough space to fit an inner sleeve underneath.

The fit chart below covers every Pokémon sleeve tier, what binder pages accept, and the one dimension mismatch that silently damages cards.

Pokémon Card Sleeve Fit Chart

All English and Japanese Pokémon cards share the same card dimensions, so the same sleeve sizes apply to both. Our full sleeve tier guide covers quality differences; this chart focuses on measurements and compatibility.

Sleeve type Inner dimensions Typical count Fits unsleeved card? Fits single-sleeved card? Use case Observed price (Oct 4, 2026)
Perfect-fit inner sleeve ~63 × 88 mm 100ct Yes (snug) No Double-sleeving layer 1; toploader prep $1.99–$5.99 / 100ct
Standard outer sleeve (65ct) ~66 × 91 mm 65ct Yes (loose fit) Yes (with inner sleeve) Player deck; binder display $8.99–$10.99 / 65ct
APEX outer sleeve (105ct) ~66 × 91 mm 105ct Yes Yes (with inner sleeve) Player deck with spares; single-sleeve with backups $22.00–$23.99 / 105ct
Penny sleeve (bulk clear) ~64 × 89 mm 100ct Yes (slightly snug) No Bulk storage; trade binder commons $1.99–$2.39 / 100ct
9-pocket binder page ~68 × 93 mm pocket 9 per page Yes Yes (single outer sleeve only) Binder collection display Part of binder purchase

One dimension most buyers miss: penny sleeves run about 64 × 89 mm, which is a tighter fit than standard outer sleeves, not looser.

Inserting a card forcefully bends corners. Use them open-end-down for singles storage, and never force a thick promo card in.

Standard 65ct Sleeves: What They Fit and What They Don't

The standard 65ct Ultra PRO Deck Protector sleeve is the most common sleeve in the Pokémon TCG. At 66 × 91 mm, it fits every standard English card, every standard Japanese card, and every standard single already inside a perfect-fit inner sleeve.

It does NOT fit jumbo promo cards. Jumbo promos from Ultra-Premium Collections and some ETBs measure 5.75 × 8 inches (approximately 146 × 203 mm). Those require 6 × 8 inch or 6 × 9 inch oversized sleeves.

One thing worth knowing: Ultra PRO's support documentation distinguishes "standard" (66 × 91 mm) from "small standard" (62 × 89 mm). Small standard is for some older Japanese card games with narrower cards.

Pokémon uses standard. Buying "small standard" by mistake means your cards bow because the sleeve is too narrow.

APEX 105ct Sleeves: The Extra 40 Sleeves Explained

The APEX 105ct packs look like a premium upsell, but the extra count has a specific purpose.

A tournament-legal 60-card deck needs 60 sleeves. Standard 65ct packs give you 5 spares. APEX 105ct packs give you 45 spares.

Those extras serve two uses. Competitive players carry a full backup deck-worth in their bag so a single torn or warped sleeve (which judges require you to replace immediately) doesn't pull cards from other sleeves mid-event. Collectors sleeving a binder section use the surplus to cover multiple page rows in a single uniform batch, which matters when visible sleeve backs need to match.

APEX sleeves measure the same 66 × 91 mm as standard 65ct sleeves. The difference is the textured matte coating, which reduces glare and provides better grip. The fit is identical: they accept a bare card or a card inside a perfect-fit inner sleeve.

Perfect-Fit Inner Sleeves: Double-Sleeving Dimensions

Double-sleeving means putting a card in a snug inner sleeve first, then putting that sleeved card into an outer sleeve. The inner sleeve removes the gap between card and outer sleeve, which prevents debris from reaching the card face.

Perfect-fit inners run approximately 63 × 88 mm. That is essentially the card's own dimensions, so insertion needs to be gentle. The open end of the inner sleeve faces down when you insert the card, sealing the card face inside.

One important binder note: most standard 9-pocket binder pages are designed for single-sleeved cards. A double-sleeved card (inner plus outer) is roughly 1 mm thicker than a single-sleeved one, and that extra thickness can prevent the page from lying flat. Check the binder's listed capacity before double-sleeving cards you intend to store in a page.

Choose by What You're Protecting

Active play deck

Use one standard 65ct or APEX 105ct outer sleeve per card. The 65ct pack covers your 60-card deck with 5 spares. The APEX 105ct pack costs more but includes enough sleeves to handle tournament replacements without opening a second pack mid-event.

High-value singles and grading candidates

Double-sleeve: inner (perfect-fit, ~63 × 88 mm) plus outer (standard 66 × 91 mm). Add a penny sleeve over that if going into a toploader, so the 35pt toploader doesn't scratch the outer sleeve during transit. Inner sleeve open-end down, outer sleeve open-end up, penny sleeve open-end down.

Binder display

Single outer sleeve only. Standard 9-pocket pages hold one sleeved card per slot; double-sleeved cards force the pages open and can crack the binder spine over time. If your collection is display-only in a binder, a standard 65ct sleeve is enough.

Penny sleeves at ~64 × 89 mm. They are slightly snug but they hold, and they cost a fraction of deck protectors.

Store them open-end down in a card storage box. Avoid penny-sleeving foil cards long-term: a snug sleeve against a foil that expands with humidity can cause warping over months.

Five Sleeving Mistakes That Damage Cards

1. Buying "small standard" instead of standard

Small standard sleeves (62 × 89 mm) are narrower than a Pokémon card, so forcing a card in bends the side edges. Ultra PRO's support page lists which games use which size.

Pokémon uses standard, not small standard.

2. Inserting cards the wrong way into inner sleeves

Inner sleeve open-end faces down when you insert the card from above. If the open end faces up, the card can shift out during shuffling and the inner sleeve provides no protection.

3. Mixing sleeve brands in a tournament deck

Different brands vary by a millimeter or two in actual inner width and back texture. Mixing them creates visible shuffling differences that judges classify as marked sleeves. Stick to one brand and print run for competitive play.

4. Storing foil cards in penny sleeves long-term

Penny sleeves at ~64 × 89 mm have almost no slack against a 63 × 88 mm card. Foils expand with humidity. Over several months a snug sleeve causes the foil layer to push against the sleeve edge, which creates a subtle curl that storage box pressure then sets permanently.

5. Double-sleeving binder cards without checking page clearance

A double-sleeved card is about 1 mm thicker than a single-sleeved one. Standard 9-pocket pages are designed for single-sleeved thickness.

Nine double-sleeved cards per page add 9 mm of extra thickness per row, forcing the binder cover to bow. Use a binder rated for double-sleeved cards, or single-sleeve the binder cards and reserve double-sleeving for cards that go into toploaders. Our Pokémon binders guide covers which models are rated for thicker cards.

FAQ

Do standard sleeves fit Japanese Pokémon cards?

Yes. Japanese Pokémon cards measure 63 × 88 mm, identical to English cards. Standard 66 × 91 mm outer sleeves fit both without modification.

What size sleeves go inside a 9-pocket binder?

Single outer sleeves (66 × 91 mm standard) fit all 9-pocket pages designed for Pokémon cards. Double-sleeved cards (inner plus outer) usually don't fit standard pages; check the binder's product description for double-sleeve compatibility before buying.

What is the difference between 65ct and 105ct sleeve packs?

Both contain the same 66 × 91 mm standard outer sleeves. The 105ct APEX pack includes 45 extra sleeves beyond the 60 needed for a standard deck. The APEX texture is also a matte coating that reduces glare, whereas standard 65ct packs are available in both matte and clear finishes.

Do I need special sleeves for tournament play?

You need sleeves that are opaque (non-transparent backs) and all the same back design from the same batch. Ultra PRO Pokemon-licensed 65ct and APEX 105ct sleeves both meet that requirement. Tournament rulings on sleeves are set by the tournament organizer; if you're playing a Pokémon Championship Series event, check the current official TCG rules for the current season's sleeve policy.

Can I put a card already in an ETB sleeve into a binder?

Yes. The sleeves included in an Elite Trainer Box are standard 66 × 91 mm Ultra PRO Deck Protectors, the same size as any standalone 65ct pack. A card sleeved in an ETB sleeve fits any standard 9-pocket binder page.
