Gholdengo Collector's Guide 2026: The Only Steel/Ghost Pokémon, 1000 Coins, and Every Entry Point
By Dexhaul Team · September 22, 2026
No other Pokémon in the franchise's history requires you to collect exactly 999 coins before it will evolve.
That distinction belongs to Gholdengo, Pokédex number 1000, which evolves from Gimmighoul after its trainer has accumulated 999 Gimmighoul coins in Scarlet and Violet. The coins are scattered across Paldea in two forms: stationary Chest Form Gimmighouls hold their own coins, and Roaming Form Gimmighouls periodically leave coins behind when you encounter them in the overworld.
Level up Gimmighoul after you have gathered enough and it transforms. No other Pokémon evolves this way.
Gholdengo carries a Steel/Ghost dual typing. It is the only Pokémon in the National Pokédex to combine those two types. That uniqueness extends to the TCG, where the character debuted in Paradox Rift (SV04, November 2023) and has since appeared in additional sets, giving collectors a clear entry ladder from under $2 to roughly $59 depending on which card they are targeting.
The Gimmighoul Side: Plush and the IR
The Roaming Form All Star Collection plush is the most accessible Gimmighoul product currently available.
The All Star Collection format is the closest the official Pokémon line has to a museum-grade display plush: fabric quality is higher than the standard Fit line, and the sculpt captures the Roaming Form's small coin-body silhouette well. It lists at $25.00 USD at Anime Pop.
On the TCG side, Gimmighoul appeared as Illustration Rare 198/182 in the same Paradox Rift set that introduced Gholdengo. Numbered 16 cards above the set's 182-card base count, it sits in the above-set IR tier alongside Gholdengo's own 252/182 SIR. The Gimmighoul IR carries a full-illustration treatment showing the Chest Form resting in a pile of glittering coins, consistent with the coin-collection theme that defines the evolution mechanic.
The Gimmighoul IR and the Gholdengo SIR are two above-set entries for an evolution pair from the same release. That pairing is uncommon in the SV era, where most Pokémon see only their evolved or final form receive above-set treatment within a single set.
The Entry Card: Paradox Rift Double Rare 139/182
Gholdengo's cheapest point of entry is the Double Rare from Paradox Rift.
At $1.36 from Level Up Hobbies and $2.00 from Dx Games, the DR 139/182 carries the exact same card text as the SIR that sells for $35 to $59. The "Good as Gold" Ability grants Gholdengo immunity to all opposing Trainer cards, and the "Make It Rain" attack deals baseline damage scaling with the number of Basic Metal Energy attached. Zero gameplay difference separates DR from SIR.
The price gap is entirely the illustration. The DR uses standard SV-era holo treatment.
The SIR features a full-bleed alternate illustration by artist Shin Nagasawa, showing Gholdengo surfing through a cascade of golden coins against a stylized city backdrop. That image, and nothing else, accounts for a 43x price spread within the same set.
The Collector's Target: SIR 252/182
The Special Illustration Rare is the primary card Gholdengo collectors chase.
Numbered 252/182, it sits 70 cards above Paradox Rift's 182-card base set total. The SV era uses the SIR designation for this above-set full-bleed illustration tier, replacing the traditional Secret Rare numbering convention from earlier generations.
Knight and Day Games lists the SIR at $35.50, Piece of the Game at $34.99, and JustEncased at $59.00. The spread is typical for a mid-tier SV-era SIR: multiple sellers at different price points with no clear floor.
A graded PSA 10 population has not yet emerged in significant volume for this card. Any graded premium is speculative until slab counts accumulate, making raw NM the practical buying target for most collectors right now.
For context within Paradox Rift, Gholdengo's SIR shares the above-set tier with chase cards like Iron Valiant ex 265/182 and Roaring Moon ex 261/182. The Paradox Rift set introduced the Paradox Pokémon mechanic to the TCG, pairing ancient and future Pokémon alongside the main Paldea cast. Gholdengo, as a Paldean character rather than a Paradox form, sits outside that mechanic entirely but benefited from the premium SIR treatment that defined the set's collector profile.
The Prismatic Evolutions Holo: A Second Above-Set Entry
Prismatic Evolutions, released in early 2025, added a second English above-set Gholdengo card.
The Prismatic Evolutions holo 164/131 is numbered 33 cards above that set's 131-card base count. At $47.14 from Russet Rips and $54.00 from Danireon, it prices above the Paradox Rift SIR floor but below its ceiling. The Prismatic Evolutions format used a distinct rainbow-foil aesthetic that differs from the standard SIR illustration treatment in Paradox Rift, and the $47 to $54 range reflects the set's premium print quality rather than Gholdengo-specific character demand.
Collectors who have already acquired the Paradox Rift SIR may view the Prismatic Evolutions holo as a secondary target. For those building a Gholdengo collection from scratch, it functions as an alternative above-set entry at a predictable price point without requiring a search for the best Paradox Rift SIR ask.
Why Steel/Ghost Matters for Gholdengo's Collector Identity
Steel/Ghost is the rarest dual typing in the National Pokédex.
As of September 2026, Gholdengo is the only Pokémon that combines Steel and Ghost. Ghost typing is well represented in collector markets: Ghost types have seasonal demand driven by Halloween, plush and merchandise lines that lean into the spooky design aesthetic, and consistent TCG card volume. Steel typing adds a second collector tier pull that operates independently of seasonal demand, driven by competitive players and completionist collectors targeting Steel-type sets.
Gholdengo benefits from both, with neither as its primary driver. The character's visual design, centered on a golden coin-shaped body and animated coin cascade, is seasonally neutral.
It attracts collectors who want the unique typing and those drawn to its striking appearance in the Paradox Rift SIR illustration. That breadth of appeal, across Ghost fans, Steel fans, and SV-era collectors, keeps the SIR floor stable even as newer SV sets continue releasing above-set cards.
The 1000-coin evolution mechanic reinforces the collector narrative. Gholdengo is the only Pokémon whose in-game origin is quantified in a specific number.
That number is also its Pokédex entry: #1000. Every Gholdengo product carries that origin story, and no other character in the franchise shares it.
Independent shops across DexHaul carry the full Gholdengo product range from the $1.36 entry DR to the $59 SIR. Search DexHaul for Gholdengo to see current in-stock listings across sellers in your region. DexHaul is independent and not affiliated with The Pokémon Company or Nintendo.
