ME05 Pitch Black has three Special Illustration Rares, not one, and their prices are nowhere near each other.

Mega Darkrai ex (116/084) leads the set at $200–$278. Mega Zeraora ex (114/084) sits mid-tier at $60–$74. Mega Chandelure ex (115/084) is the one most buyers overlook: same rarity tier, $45–$50, and significantly undervalued relative to its pull odds.

Below those three, Gladion's Final Battle (118/084) is the trainer SIR at $28–$35. Mega Chandelure ex's Full Art Ultra Rare (099/084) rounds out the budget tier at under $10.

This is the full ME05 Pitch Black chase card ladder, ranked by current price and explained so you know what you're actually hunting before you open a Mega Forces Tin.

What Is ME05 Pitch Black?

Pitch Black is the fifth English set in the Mega Evolution (ME) series, the same product line as Phantasmal Flames, Perfect Order, and Chaos Rising. The Mega Forces Tins launched August 28 and contain Pitch Black booster packs alongside exclusive promo Mega ex cards. When you open a Mega Darkrai ex Tin or Mega Zeraora ex Tin, the packs inside are Pitch Black packs.

The set runs 084 main cards plus numbered secret rares. Three Pokémon anchor the secret rare tier: Darkrai, Zeraora, and Chandelure. All three receive Special Illustration Rares, which is why Pitch Black has an unusually wide SIR spread: most ME sets have one or two SIR Pokémon, not three.

The set also features Gladion from Sun and Moon as the trainer SIR, which is a deliberate thematic choice. The "Pitch Black" name matches Gladion's character arc as a loner working against the light, and Darkrai is canonically the Darkness Pokémon of Sinnoh mythology. The art direction on this set is one of the tightest thematic packages the ME series has produced.

Ranked: Every ME05 Pitch Black Chase Card

1. Mega Darkrai ex 116/084 Special Illustration Rare

The top pull in the set. Current market prices sit between $200 and $278 across independent sellers, with most raw NM copies clustered around $230. Darkrai's SIR art leans fully into the set's darkness theme: deep blacks, dramatic void texturing, and an art style that stands out sharply on a shelf next to the ME04 chase cards.

If you're targeting this card specifically, note the price spread is tighter than ME04's top pull (Mega Greninja ex SIR traded anywhere from $130 to $250 in its first two weeks). Pitch Black's Darkrai SIR settled faster, which suggests seller consensus on fair value rather than speculation volatility.

2. Mega Zeraora ex 114/084 Special Illustration Rare

The mid-tier SIR. Prices range from $60 to $74 depending on seller, with most landing around $63–$65 for raw NM.

Zeraora is a Generation VII mythical. Its licensing print run is typically more controlled than standard Pokémon, which historically keeps mythical SIRs from dropping as fast as other SIRs over the first few months post-launch.

The Zeraora SIR is also the only electric-type chase card in the set. Collectors running Zeraora-themed binders treat this as a cornerstone pull, independent of market trends.

3. Mega Chandelure ex 115/084 Special Illustration Rare

The dark-horse SIR, and the most interesting card on this list.

Chandelure pulls the same SIR rarity slot as Darkrai and Zeraora, which means the same expected pull frequency from a given number of packs. But current market price sits at $45–$50, roughly 4.5x cheaper than Darkrai and 25% below Zeraora. That gap is explained by collector demand rather than scarcity: Darkrai and Zeraora carry stronger individual fanbases at this moment.

Why this matters: Chandelure is a Ghost/Fire dual-type with a competitive collector base of its own, and it's rarely the headline Mega Evolution Pokémon in a set. Pitch Black is likely its only ME-series SIR. Collectors building complete Chandelure sets or full Pitch Black SIR runs need this card the same way they need Darkrai, at a fraction of the price.

The Trainer SIR: Gladion's Final Battle

Trainer SIRs are typically the quieter cards in any ME set, and Pitch Black's entry is Gladion's Final Battle (118/084), currently trading at $28–$35.

Gladion from Sun and Moon is thematically locked into this set in a way most trainer SIRs aren't. His character represents a lone fighter working against the odds in darkness, which is exactly what the Pitch Black art direction evokes.

The "Final Battle" name references his climactic confrontation at the end of Sun and Moon, illustrated in the set's signature black-field art style. Trainer SIRs often get overlooked by Pokémon-first collectors, which keeps the price accessible for those building Gladion-specific collections.

Budget Entry: Mega Chandelure ex Full Art Ultra Rare

Below the SIR tier sits Mega Chandelure ex's Full Art Ultra Rare (099/084), currently priced at $8.99–$9. This is the budget Chandelure card for collectors who want the Mega form on the card without chasing the SIR.

It's a Full Art illustration with different framing from the SIR, which means both cards have distinct collector value to completionists. For a Chandelure collector, this card and the 115/084 SIR are separate targets, not alternatives.

Opening Packs vs. Buying Singles

The Pitch Black Booster Bundle at $27.99–$34.95 gives you 6 packs. The Mega Forces Tins ($29–$48 each) each contain 4 packs plus a promo Mega ex card. Neither format guarantees an SIR.

If you need a specific SIR, buying the single outright is almost always more predictable than pack opening. Mega Darkrai ex SIR at $230 would require a lot of packs at average SIR pull rates to land statistically. Chandelure SIR at $50, on the other hand, costs less than two Booster Bundles and delivers a confirmed card.

Pack opening makes sense when you want the experience of the set across multiple cards, not when you're targeting one specific pull. The singles market for Pitch Black is well-established enough right now that prices reflect real demand.

The Full ME05 Pitch Black Chase Ladder

Here's the complete ranking at a glance:

  • Mega Darkrai ex 116/084 SIR: $200–$278
  • Mega Zeraora ex 114/084 SIR: $60–$74
  • Mega Chandelure ex 115/084 SIR: $45–$50
  • Gladion's Final Battle 118/084 SIR: $28–$35
  • Mega Chandelure ex 099/084 Full Art Ultra Rare: $8.99–$9
  • Mega Chandelure ex 038/084 Double Rare: ~$1

Chandelure appears at three levels of rarity in this set: Double Rare, Full Art Ultra Rare, and Special Illustration Rare. That gives Chandelure collectors an unusual completionist path within a single set, from budget entry at $1 to the full SIR at $50.

Darkrai is the headline. Chandelure is the undervalued SIR that set completionists need anyway. And Gladion's Final Battle is the trainer SIR that punches above its price for collectors who care about the Sun and Moon storyline.
