Wailord and Wailmer Collector's Guide 2026: The Biggest Pokémon's Smallest Plush and the Journey Together Record
By Dexhaul Team · October 2, 2026
That plush in the hero image is 6.5 inches across.
The Pokémon it represents stands 14.5 meters tall, or 47 feet and 7 inches. Wailord is the tallest Pokémon in the franchise by height, and the Pokémon Fit plush compresses that frame by a ratio of roughly 108:1. No other entry in the Fit line creates a gap this wide between the product and the subject.
Wailord is also one of the most genuinely unusual collector characters in the TCG: it set an HP record in 2003 that stood for years, it has never received an English SV-era ex card, and Journey Together recently put it above the set ceiling with an Illustration Rare numbered 162/159. This guide covers the full plush range and TCG arc, with a conversion note for the Legends Z-A window on October 16.
The Plush Range: Four Formats for the Float Whale
The Pokémon Fit plush is the standard entry for most collectors. At $19, it is the cheapest single-character plush in the current Wailord catalogue and the most visually striking because of the size contrast. It is a faithful reconstruction of the rounded shape, just scaled down by about a hundred times.
The Sitting Cuties format adds a few dollars to the entry price. At $28, it is the same rounded design with a slightly different posture and finish. Sellers have two separate current listings for the Sitting Cuties version from different import sources, which is useful for comparing shipping costs against the price differential.
The Mochifuwa Cushion
The format that actually matches the character is the Mochifuwa Cushion.
Wailord's Pokédex biology describes it as floating at the surface of the ocean, rising above the water to a height taller than any building in Pokémon's fictional world. The Mochifuwa Cushion takes that premise literally: a 47cm pillow-format plush shaped like the full body, soft enough to rest your head on. At $94.65, it is the premium tier of the plush line and one of the few formats that feels designed around the character rather than the shelf.
The pre-evolution Wailmer runs a separate but parallel plush track. Wailmer is a perfect sphere in the games, no limbs, no notable protrusions, just a round blue ball with a face and small fins. The 12-inch Jazwares Wailmer plush captures that sphere accurately.
At $29, the Wailmer 12-inch sits one dollar above the Wailord Fit. Both stages of the line are accessible under $35 for collectors who want the evolution pair on the shelf together.
The TCG Arc: From a 2003 HP Record to an Above-Ceiling Illustration Rare
Wailord's TCG history has two anchor points twenty-two years apart.
The first is Wailord ex from EX Sandstorm (2003). At the time of printing, 200 HP was the highest base HP on any card in the English TCG.
EX-era cards typically capped between 100 and 150 HP; Wailord ex pushed that ceiling to a number that felt genuinely oversized for the format. The card was not a tournament staple, but it became a reference point for any discussion of high HP, a pattern that continued every time a new Wailord V or VMAX pushed the number higher.
The second anchor is Wailord 162/159 from Journey Together (2025). This card is numbered above the set's 159-card base ceiling, placing it in the Illustration Rare tier alongside other above-ceiling prints in the Scarlet and Violet era.
The art shows Wailord breaching, a full-body image with the ocean framed below and the card border serving as the horizon. Several current sellers list it in the $16–$25 range depending on condition and shipping origin.
Wailord also received an Art Rare treatment in the Japanese Battle Partners set (SV9), numbered 103/100 above that set's ceiling. The Japanese AR is available through import sellers in the $6–$15 range and shares the same above-ceiling structural position as the English Journey Together IR, just from a different regional release.
The Entry Tier
For collectors who want Wailord in the collection without committing to either the 2003 EX or the IR, the standard Holo from Journey Together (041/159) offers the same set context at significantly lower cost. The current floor on that card is under $1 at some sellers, making it the most budget-accessible Holo for the character in the current market.
Wailord 32/159 from Crown Zenith lists around $2. Neither the CRZ Rare nor the JTG standard Holo carry the same visual weight as the IR or EX, but both confirm the character's run through the modern era without any ex or V designation in English.
That absence is worth noting directly: as of October 2026, Wailord has never received an English SV-era ex card. The Journey Together IR is the highest-rarity current English Wailord single in the market, and the EX Sandstorm Wailord ex at $184.50 remains the sealed vintage ceiling. There is no V, VMAX, VSTAR, or ex equivalent between those two points for the English collector.
Wailmer and Wailord in Legends Z-A
Pokémon Legends Z-A launches October 16, 2026. The game is set in Lumiose City, Kalos, and features Pokémon from across multiple generations as part of an urban biodiversity initiative framing. Both Wailmer and Wailord appear in the game's roster.
The practical implication for collectors is the discovery window. Players who encounter Wailord or Wailmer as part of their first playthrough in mid-October often begin looking for merchandise and cards tied to those characters during and immediately after that session. The plush range, the Journey Together IR, and the Mochifuwa Cushion are all in stock now, before that window opens.
