Yamask, Cofagrigus, and Runerigus Collector's Guide 2026: Two Evolution Lines, One Haunting Origin

Yamask carries a stone mask that bears the face of the human it used to be in a previous life. That is the actual Pokédex entry. It is one of the darkest origin stories in the franchise, and it shapes what this character means to collectors who focus on the Ghost type.

The short answer for collectors: if you want to complete this line in September 2026, you are dealing with two entirely separate TCG tracks. Unovan Yamask evolves into Cofagrigus; Galarian Yamask evolves into Runerigus. Each branch has different card pools and different price ceilings.

Almost no crossover exists between the two. The plush situation is simpler but has its own gap.

One Pokémon, Two Evolutionary Forks

Yamask (#0562) was introduced in Generation 5 as a pure Ghost type with one evolution: Cofagrigus (#0563), the sarcophagus Pokémon. That was the complete line for seven years.

Sword and Shield changed everything. The Galarian regional form of Yamask looks identical at first glance but has a completely different Pokédex entry, a Ground typing alongside Ghost, and a unique evolution condition: it must receive 49 or more HP damage in a single battle and then level up in the Wild Area to become Runerigus (#0867).

Runerigus is not just a new evolution. It is a runic seal drawn on a stone tablet, completely different in design and type from Cofagrigus's sarcophagus. Two Yamask forms, two evolutionary endpoints, and for the TCG collector, two entirely distinct card pools to navigate.

The Plush Situation

The Pokémon Fit line covers Yamask at $17, and the Pokémon Center Sitting Cuties version reaches $43 on secondary. Neither Cofagrigus nor Runerigus has a Pokémon Fit plush in any regional release as of September 2026.

That gap is structural. Cofagrigus is a large sarcophagus design that does not lend itself to the compact Fit format; Runerigus is essentially a flat stone tablet. Neither has received the plush treatment at retail price.

If plush is your priority, Yamask is the only entry point in this entire evolutionary tree.

The $17 Fit price is flat across multiple sellers right now. The Sitting Cuties version at $43 carries a 2.5x premium for the larger format and the Pokémon Center branding, which is consistent with that product line's secondary pricing across other Gen 5 characters.

The Unova Branch: Yamask and Cofagrigus in the TCG

The Unova line's TCG history starts in Black and White: Noble Victories (2011), which included Yamask 45/101 and Cofagrigus 47/101 in the same set. Both are base rares currently available at under $4 raw, making them the cheapest entry into the B&W era for this character.

The modern premium tier is the SV White Flare Japanese expansion. White Flare assigned Yamask and Cofagrigus consecutive Illustration Rare numbers: 122/086 and 123/086. Both are above-set-total numbered cards, each sitting in the IR tier above the main 86-card set.

The Yamask IR lists at $11–12 from multiple sellers; the Cofagrigus IR runs $29–35.

That $17–23 spread within the same set and same rarity tier is the key collector data point here. Both cards share identical above-set IR designation and the same release window. The gap is driven entirely by Cofagrigus's larger fanbase as the evolved form, not any mechanical or print-run difference.

Neither Yamask nor Cofagrigus has a Special Illustration Rare in any English SV main-series set as of September 2026. The White Flare IR pair is the apex of the English-accessible modern premium art ceiling for the Unova branch, available only as Japanese import singles.

Below that tier: Cofagrigus ex from SV04 Paradox Rift offers two entry points. The Double Rare 076/182 runs about $0.99 raw; the Full Art 224/182 lists at $2.25. That is a compressed 2.3x spread versus the 10–30x spreads common for higher-demand characters, which simply reflects modest mainstream collector demand for Cofagrigus at this point in the SV era.

The Galar Branch: Galarian Yamask and Runerigus

The Galar branch enters the TCG in Sword and Shield: Rebel Clash (2020). Galarian Yamask 101/192 and Galarian Runerigus 102/192 appear as consecutive numbers in the same set, an intentional structural choice that mirrors how the Unova line debuted together in Noble Victories nine years earlier.

The modern collector target for the Galar branch is the Shining Fates Shiny Vault. Galarian Yamask appears at SV065/SV122 and Galarian Runerigus at SV066/SV122, again with consecutive vault numbers. Completing the Galar Yamask line through Shining Fates means acquiring two back-to-back Shiny Vault entries, both currently available raw at $3–4 each.

That consecutive shiny pair is where the Galar branch is most interesting to collectors. Shining Fates gave only a handful of complete evolution lines back-to-back entries in the Shiny Vault. Finding both Galarian Yamask and Runerigus as SV065 and SV066 in the same set means the full Galar evolution can be documented in a single page-spread in a binder without breaking vault number order.

Runerigus has no IR or SIR treatment in any English or Japanese SV-era set as of September 2026. The Shining Fates Shiny pair represents the art ceiling for the Galar branch. There is no modern premium-art Runerigus available in any format.

For the Galar branch below that: Galarian Runerigus 083/198 in Chilling Reign at $1.49 and Galarian Runerigus 102/192 in Rebel Clash at $0.52 cover the base card tier. Both are standard holo rares with no full-art treatment in either set.

Where Both Branches Converge

The two evolutionary lines share only one common point: the base Yamask card.

The Yamask Fit plush covers the pre-evolution for both branches. If you collect both Cofagrigus and Runerigus, one Yamask plush serves both evolution lines, which is unusual in a collection that otherwise splits cleanly into Unova and Galar tracks.

In the TCG, both branches received consecutive numbered pairs in their respective debut sets. Noble Victories put Yamask and Cofagrigus at 45/101 and 47/101; Rebel Clash gave Galarian Yamask and Runerigus consecutive entries at 101/192 and 102/192; and Shining Fates Shiny Vault continued the pattern with SV065 and SV066 for the Galar pair. That systematic pairing is worth noting when deciding how to organize a completed collection.

The clearest division: if your collector focus is on Illustration Rare and premium art, the Unova branch has the White Flare IR pair as the modern ceiling. The Galar branch tops out at Shining Fates Shiny Vault, and that ceiling is unlikely to change without a dedicated Japanese expansion featuring Runerigus.

September Timing for Ghost Types

September is the documented seasonal floor for Ghost-type plush and cards before October demand picks up. The Yamask Fit plush at $17 and the Shining Fates Shiny pair at $3–4 are both priced at or near their year-low right now.

The White Flare IR pair sees consistent demand from Ghost-type and Unova-era collectors regardless of season. The $29–35 listing price for the Cofagrigus 123/086 IR reflects sustained collector interest from the Japanese import market, not Halloween-driven spikes.
