Where Chaos Rising wins

Price per pack

At $69.99 floor, Chaos Rising costs $7.78 per pack. Delta Reign Wave 2 at $99.99 is $11.11 per pack, 43% more for the same nine-pack count. The $30 difference is enough to cover a Dragon Shield 100ct sleeve pack or a 3-pack blister on top of the ETB.

Chaos Rising is the lowest-priced standard ETB in the Mega Evolution series by observed floor. ME04 settled at $69.99 after launch; ME05 Pitch Black settled around $74.95. The $30 premium for Delta Reign is explained entirely by Mega Rayquaza ex SIR demand, not by any packaging difference.

Mega Rayquaza ex SIR

Delta Reign's headline chase card is Mega Rayquaza ex as a Special Illustration Rare. The SIR tier sits above regular cards in the print run, and Rayquaza historically drives strong demand. Pre-order spread for ME06 is the widest the Mega Evolution series has seen, with Wave 1 listings at $109.95 alongside Wave 2 at $99.99.

Chaos Rising's equivalent SIR is Mega Greninja ex at 116/086. Both are strong chase targets, but Rayquaza's character popularity among collectors gives Delta Reign an edge in secondary-market interest.

Legends Z-A card pool

Delta Reign focuses on Pokémon from the Legends Z-A era alongside its featured Mega Pokémon. For players building a thematic collection around Kalos and Z-A characters, Delta Reign is the set that delivers. The Delta Reign ME06 hub covers the full confirmed card classes and featured Pokémon.

Newer tournament card pool

Delta Reign cards become tournament-legal on November 6, 2026. If you play the Mega Evolution era format competitively, Delta Reign opens five months' worth of newer options versus Chaos Rising.

The deciding question

For most buyers, this comes down to what you are opening for.

If you are opening for fun or want the most packs per dollar, Chaos Rising is the clear pick. At $69.99, it is the lowest-priced standard Mega Evolution ETB in the series by floor. You get a confirmed Fennekin promo, you have the box in hand within days, and you spend $30 less than the cheapest Delta Reign Wave 2 pre-order.

If Mega Rayquaza ex SIR is the target, Delta Reign is the only box that can deliver it. No amount of Chaos Rising packs will yield a Rayquaza ex card; the two sets do not share a card pool. Check the Delta Reign ETB contents and pre-order breakdown for the full contents and per-pack math before committing.

One other case: if you are collecting every Mega Evolution ETB in release order, ME05 Pitch Black (currently around $74.95) sits between these two. Buying Chaos Rising now and Pitch Black separately costs roughly the same as a single Delta Reign Wave 1 pre-order, and fills the gap in your set-run before ME06 ships.
