Pokémon Deck Box Size Guide: Single to Double Sleeved (2026)

The number on a Pokémon deck box is not how many sleeved cards it holds.

Capacity ratings on deck boxes count bare, unsleeved standard-size cards. Once you add sleeves, those same 60 cards take up more space, and a box that holds 100 raw cards may grip a double-sleeved deck so tightly it bends corners or jams the lid.

This guide gives you a full size matrix for the most common box formats, explains exactly how sleeving changes the fit, and covers the one mistake most players make when buying their first deck box.

Deck Box Size Matrix: Which Box Fits Your Sleeve Setup

The table below uses observed prices from independent shops (October 9, 2026). "Single-sleeved" means one standard outer sleeve per card. "Double-sleeved" means an inner sleeve plus an outer sleeve, the setup most competitive players use for the official 60-card format.

Box Rated capacity (unsleeved) Fits 60 single-sleeved? Fits 60 double-sleeved? Observed price
Ultra PRO Full View (100-count) 100 Yes, comfortable No (too tight) ~$4.99
Ultra PRO M2 (80-count) 80 Yes, snug No ~$9.99
Ultra PRO PRO-DUAL 2 × 60 single-sleeved Yes (two decks) No ~$10.99
Ultimate Guard Boulder 100+ 100+ Yes Yes ~$12
Ultra PRO Alcove Flip 100+ Yes Yes ~$16.99–$36
Ultra PRO Alcove Click 100+ Yes Yes ~$30
Ultra PRO Alcove Tower 100+ multi-chamber Yes Yes, plus side deck and tokens ~$41.99

The rule of thumb: any box labeled "100+" by its manufacturer is designed for double-sleeved play. Boxes labeled simply "100" or "80" are sized for single sleeves on a 60-card deck, and double-sleeving will be a fight.

Choose by How You Sleeve

The right box depends entirely on your sleeve configuration, not just your deck size. Here is how to match them.

Unsleeved (bare cards)

Any box rated 60 or higher fits. For casual kitchen-table play where you are not worried about wear, even a very small box works. That said, sliding bare cards in and out of a rigid plastic box scratches the printing over time.

Single-sleeved (one outer sleeve per card)

A standard 66 × 91 mm outer sleeve adds roughly 1.5 mm of width and 3 mm of height to each card, per Ultra PRO's published sleeve dimensions. Sixty single-sleeved cards pack to roughly the same footprint as 80 bare cards. Any "100-count" box gives you comfortable clearance, and the M2 (80-count) gives you a snug but functional fit.

Double-sleeved (inner sleeve plus outer sleeve)

Adding a Perfect Fit inner sleeve (64 × 89.5 mm per Ultra PRO's specification, smaller than the outer sleeve so it sits inside it) before your outer sleeve is the standard for tournament-level card protection. It adds another layer of thickness to every card in the stack.

Sixty double-sleeved cards fill roughly the same footprint as 95–100 bare cards, so you need a "100+" box. Any 100-count box will jam.

Double-sleeved with a side deck or extra tokens

Expanded formats, fan-made cube drafts, or just carrying prize cards alongside your deck: you need extra chamber space. The Alcove Tower holds multiple deck columns plus a side compartment for tokens and damage counters. What the Capacity Label Actually Means

Here is the detail most buyers miss: deck box capacity is measured for bare, unsleeved cards in vertical stack. Standard Pokémon TCG cards measure 63.5 × 88 mm, the same as most other card games, so the sleeve-and-box math applies equally to any deck you carry. There is no industry-wide standard for how manufacturers measure "sleeved" capacity, so two different brands' "100+" boxes may have slightly different interior dimensions even though they carry the same label.

The practical shortcut: look for "100+" or "double-sleeve compatible" in the product description. Ultra PRO's Alcove series, Ultimate Guard's Boulder 100+, and similar 100+-rated boxes are all designed with the additional thickness of double sleeves in mind. The plain "100-count" Full View and M2 boxes are not.

For players who carry both a main deck and a side deck, note that the PRO-DUAL is designed for two separate single-sleeved 60-card decks (each in its own column), not for one double-sleeved deck. The two formats are the same product category but serve completely different use cases. Check the Pokémon TCG accessories checklist if you are building out a full play kit.

Mistakes That Damage Cards

Most sleeve-and-box damage comes from one of three errors.

Using a box that is too small

Forcing 60 double-sleeved cards into a 100-count box bows the deck outward, puts pressure on card corners, and can permanently curve the cards through the sleeve. If you feel resistance pulling cards out, the box is too small.

Using a box that is too large

A box with too much empty space lets the deck slide from side to side on every shuffle. Corner nicks and edge wear accumulate quickly when cards rattle against rigid plastic walls. A half-full box is a damage risk, not a safety margin.

Mixing sleeve brands mid-deck

Dragon Shield and Ultra PRO standard sleeves are both 66 × 91 mm, but minor manufacturing tolerances mean a mixed deck sits uneven in the box. The taller sleeves protrude at the top and catch on the lid. Use a single sleeve brand and batch per deck.

Deck Boxes as a Holiday Gift

A deck box is one of the cleaner holiday gifts for a Pokémon TCG player because it is consumable: players go through several a year as boxes crack or designs wear out. The Alcove Flip and Alcove Click models are the sweet spot for gifting: official Pokémon licensed art, solid construction, and the 100+ capacity that works for any sleeve setup.

For a broader holiday pick across formats and budgets, the Pokémon 2026 holiday gift guide covers everything from starter decks to collector accessories.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will a standard 100-count deck box fit 60 double-sleeved cards?

No. A 100-count box is sized for unsleeved cards; 60 double-sleeved cards need a box rated 100+ or labeled as double-sleeve compatible. Using a 100-count box with double sleeves will put pressure on card corners.

What is the difference between 100-count and 100+ on a deck box?

The plain "100" rating means the box holds 100 unsleeved cards. The "100+" rating means the manufacturer designed the box to hold more than 100 sleeved cards, which in practice means it fits a 60-card double-sleeved deck with room to spare.

Does the Ultra PRO Alcove Flip fit double-sleeved decks?

Yes. The Alcove Flip is part of Ultra PRO's 100+ lineup. It fits a standard 60-card Pokémon deck with inner and outer sleeves and still closes without forcing.

Can I carry two decks in one Alcove Flip?

No: the Alcove Flip is a single-deck box. For two decks you need the PRO-DUAL (two single-sleeved decks side by side) or the Alcove Tower (double-sleeved main deck plus a side chamber).
