Delta Reign ME06 Prereleases: How They Work, What Cards to Chase, and Whether to Buy In

Delta Reign ME06 prereleases run from October 24 through November 1 at authorized local game stores, five days before the set's November 6 English launch date.

These events are the earliest way to open ME06 packs. Each participant receives a Build-and-Battle kit: four booster packs from the set plus a stamped promo card exclusive to the prerelease window.

That stamp is not a different card. It is the same card art with a foil prerelease imprint that distinguishes it permanently from the non-stamped version available after launch. Once prerelease events close, the stamped variant has no reprint path.

Whether you are attending your first prerelease or deciding how to allocate your Delta Reign budget, here is what you need to know.

What Actually Happens at a Prerelease

Prerelease events are run by local game stores participating in the Pokémon TCG Play! program. The format is simple.

You pay a registration fee (typically $25–$35, set by the individual store), receive a Build-and-Battle kit, and participate in a limited-format game using only the cards you open plus a 40-card deck structure.

The competitive element is casual. Most players at prereleases are there to open product and see the new set early, not to grind wins. That said, prize support (extra packs for wins) makes it worth playing seriously if you attend.

Four packs and one stamped promo per kit is the standard structure across all modern Pokémon TCG prereleases. This has not changed since the SWSH era. For ME06 specifically, four packs from a set with confirmed chase cards means your odds of pulling an SIR or other high-rarity card are low per kit, but the event cost is also much lower than buying four packs at retail separately.

Many players supplement their Build-and-Battle kit with additional sealed product purchased at the store on the same day. The Booster Bundle (six packs) at a $44.95 floor pre-order gives you a second batch of packs at $7.49 per pack. That is the most common add-on format for players who want more pulls without committing to a full ETB on the spot.

The Three Rayquaza ex Tiers in ME06

Mega Rayquaza ex is the headliner of Delta Reign. It is the first dedicated Mega Rayquaza card in approximately seven years, since the XY era Roaring Skies and Ancient Origins printings ended in 2019. Three distinct Rayquaza ex cards exist in ME06 across different rarity tiers, each at a very different price point.

The entry tier is the standard Double Rare. It gives collectors the Mega Rayquaza ex art at the base print level. Above that sits the Full Art Ultra Rare, with a full-bleed painted treatment.

At the top is the Mega Rayquaza ex Special Illustration Rare (SIR), the set's chase card. The SIR is numbered above the standard set ceiling, the same above-set structure used for every SIR in modern Pokémon TCG sets since the SV era began.

Pre-order singles pricing for ME06 is speculative before the set launches. The ME01 Mega Lucario ex SIR 179/132 trades at $175–$185 raw, which is the primary price reference for what a Mega Evolution series SIR can stabilize at after initial hype settles. Delta Reign is a different set with a different Pokémon, but that benchmark is the closest like-for-like data point currently available for collector planning.

One structural difference from ME01 is notable. Mega Rayquaza already has a collector history from the XY era.

Roaring Skies M Rayquaza EX Full Arts trade at $354–$467 raw as of late 2026. That existing ceiling creates both competition and context for the ME06 SIR, which represents a new art on a Pokémon with documented collector demand.

Beyond Rayquaza: Other ME06 Cards Worth Knowing

Delta Reign includes cards for Mega Golurk ex and Mega Malamar ex, both TCG-exclusive Mega designs with no canonical Mega Evolution form in any mainline Pokémon game. These are the same design category as Mega Hawlucha ex and several ME-era cards: the TCG expands the Mega roster beyond what the games established.

Collectors interested in TCG-only Mega designs often track these specifically because no game artwork provides a competing reference. The ME06 Mega Golurk ex and Mega Malamar ex cards are the definitive official images for those Mega forms.

The set's Japanese name is Storm Emeralda, a direct reference to Pokémon Emerald, the GBA title that established Rayquaza as the cover legendary. That naming connects ME06 thematically to the ORAS Mega Evolution era, where Rayquaza's Mega Evolution required no Mega Stone, making it structurally unique in the entire Mega lineup.

Prerelease, Pre-Order, or Wait for Launch?

These are three distinct buying situations with different trade-offs.

Prerelease attendance makes sense if you want the stamped promo card and value the in-store experience. The kit cost is competitive with buying four packs at retail, and the stamp is not available any other way. If the stamped version of the prerelease promo holds secondary-market value (which stamped promos historically do for popular sets), attendance has a non-zero collectible upside beyond just the packs.

Pre-ordering sealed product now locks in current floor pricing before the November 6 launch date. The ETB pre-order at $109.95 is near-MSRP.

If Delta Reign follows the ME06 allocation pattern from prior Mega Evolution sets, ETB availability tightens after launch day and secondary pricing rises. Pre-ordering through a seller with a favorable return policy reduces the risk of overpaying at launch. The Booster Bundle at $44.95 is the lowest sealed pre-order floor currently in stock.

Waiting for launch makes sense if you are targeting specific singles rather than the opening experience. Singles prices typically drop from pre-order speculation toward their floor in the two to four weeks after a set launches, as more product opens and the market finds equilibrium. Collectors who want only the Rayquaza ex SIR single are generally better served waiting than opening product at pre-order prices.

The Checklane Blister at $7.95 is the lowest sealed entry point for ME06. It ships with one pack and a promo card. It is worth noting for collectors who want to hold product from the set without a significant outlay before launch, or who want to track how the standard Checklane blister prices shift after November 6 opens the broader market.
