Surging Sparks gave Latias an ex Special Illustration Rare and gave Latios a basic Illustration Rare with no ex designation.

One card sits at $175-$196 raw. The other clears at $35-$40. That gap is the defining fact about this pair in 2026, and it runs counter to two decades of roughly equal treatment in the TCG.

Latias and Latios arrived as version-exclusive counterparts in Ruby and Sapphire in 2002: Latias to Sapphire, Latios to Ruby. They share Psychic and Dragon typing, near-identical base stat totals, and nearly the same collector following. Surging Sparks (2024) broke that symmetry for the first time in a main English set.

The Surging Sparks Rarity Split

Latias ex 239/191 is a Special Illustration Rare in Surging Sparks, numbered eleven above the set total. Latios 203/191 is an Illustration Rare from the same set, also above set total, but it carries no ex designation at all. It is simply Latios: a full-art above-set card with no mechanical upgrade.

This is the first English set to give a legendary pair, introduced simultaneously in the same generation, different rarity tiers in the same release. The price gap follows directly from that decision.

Latias ex 239/191 currently lists at $175-$196.25 raw from active sellers. Latios 203/191 lists at $35-$40 across multiple storefronts.

Collectors who want both the Latias and Latios art from Surging Sparks pay roughly $234 for the pair at current list. That is an asymmetric buy for two legendaries that most casual collectors still think of as interchangeable.

The standard Double Rare Latias ex 076/191 fills the modern entry point at $3.50-$7.99 across active listings. Same gameplay text, no SIR artwork. For collectors who want the character in a current-gen set without paying the art premium, this is the card.

Latios 203/191 at $38 is one of the more fairly priced above-set Illustration Rares in the SV era for a legendary character. The absence of the ex mechanic keeps it accessible despite the above-set numbering.

The Mega Evolution Era: Latias Got the Box, Latios Did Not

The Mega Evolution era repeated the pattern.

In the ME series, Latias received a dedicated Mega Latias ex Box as part of ME01. Latios never received an equivalent standalone box in any ME release.

The ME01 Mega Latias ex Box currently lists at $39.95 (Mazens Paintball) to $49.99 (Collection Realm), making it one of the more accessible sealed ME01 products by price. The headliner single from the same set, Mega Latias ex SIR 181/132, sits at $95 raw from Aloha Card Shop. A PSA 10 graded copy reaches $195-$220.

Roaring Skies (2015) was the XY-era set that featured both Mega Latias and Mega Latios as headliners. Sleeved Roaring Skies boosters with Mega Latias art appear sealed at $123 from JustEncased. This is the most prominent English set to treat the pair as co-headliners rather than giving one the featured slot.

Japanese Mega Symphonia (M1S, released 2025) extended the Mega Latias ex treatment further, with an SIR card from that set currently listing at $95 raw from Aloha Card Shop. English equivalents remain harder to source.

The EX Era Foundation: Delta Species and the First Cards

Both characters debuted in the TCG together in EX Dragon (2003): Latias ex 93/97 and Latios ex 94/97, sequential card numbers in the same set. These were among the earliest legendary ex cards in English, now clearing in the mid-$30 range for English raw copies in NM condition.

The EX era ceiling for this pair sits in EX Holon Phantoms (2006). The Delta Species mechanic reassigned Pokémon to alternate types, and both Latias 011/110 and Latios 012/110 received the treatment.

Latias 011/110 currently lists at $80 USD from MissingNo. Latios 012/110 delta lists at CA$97.99 from Face to Face Games and $98 USD from Swirl Cafe and Games. Holon Phantoms was low-distribution even at release, and EX-era Holon singles carry that scarcity premium across the board.

The XY era introduced an earlier version of the pricing gap that Surging Sparks would later widen. The Latias Full Art Promo (XY78) lists at $74-$78. Latios EX Promo (XY72) sits at $6.47.

The Latias card carries a Full Art non-ex Promo designation, applied to far fewer cards than standard EX holos. That formatting decision is why a $68 gap exists between two XY-era promos from the same product cycle.

Crown Zenith Galarian Gallery Latias closes the gap slightly at $19. It is the most accessible modern alt-art Latias in English and sits between the $3.50 Double Rare floor and the $196 SIR ceiling.

The BW era added Dragon Vault (2012) Latios 10/20 at $8.75 and a HeartGold and SoulSilver Black Star Promo Latios (HGSS11) at $15. Both are low-key entry points from underexplored product windows, particularly the Dragon Vault mini-set, which saw limited distribution.

Plush and Merchandise

The Sanei All Star Collection covers both characters: PP195 (Latias) and PP196 (Latios) are the standard collector plush at $26-$34.99 depending on seller. Ichiba Japan lists Latias PP195 at $26. L.T.'s Hobbies lists both at $34.99.

Banpresto's Mofugutto Latias (12 inch) lists at $34.99 from Awesome Cards, Collectibles, and Games. A Latias MonColle MS-47 figure sits at $14.72 from Solaris Japan, the entry point for figure collectors. A used Takara Tomy MonColle bundle pairing Mega Latias and Mega Latios figures runs $158.28 from HALLYUSUPERSTORE, making it the only current listing to display both Mega forms together.

The Sealed Pick: A Box That Pairs Latias With Lugia

The Lugia ex and Latias ex Premium Collection pairs Latias with Lugia rather than Latios. It is worth flagging specifically because no equivalent Latios-plus-a-partner premium collection currently exists in English.

The box lists at $109.99 (CardsHQ) to $191.30 (ToyCartUSA retailer-exclusive listing), with GrailsTCG at $115 as a mid-point. The floor at $109.99 is reasonable as a sealed Latias product, though the box is built around its Prismatic Evolutions context rather than serving as a Latias character collection in the traditional sense.

For collectors who want both characters in a single sealed unit, the EX Trainer Kit 1 "Latias and Latios" (2006) stands as the only English sealed TCG product ever to feature both characters together on the packaging and include both a Latias card and a Latios card inside. Every subsequent product in this pair's history has treated them as individual characters with separate product lines.
