The packaging is built to sit on a shelf sealed.
The Day and Night version split mirrors exactly what The Pokémon Company used for the 25th Anniversary Celebrations UPC in 2021, which featured paired Eeveelution premium collections. For the 30th, Espeon and Umbreon were chosen, the Gold and Silver version mascots, which marks this as a deliberate design reference to the original 1999-2000 second generation.
