Surging Sparks Build & Battle Box (2024): Contents and MSRP
By Dexhaul Team · October 8, 2026 · 6 min read
The Surging Sparks Build & Battle Box was the cheapest way into a Pikachu ex foil on November 8, 2024.
The SV08 Build & Battle Box contains a 40-card ready-to-play deck, four Scarlet & Violet: Surging Sparks booster packs, and one of four exclusive foil promo cards. The promos are Pikachu ex, Alolan Exeggutor ex, Archaludon ex, and Latias ex, all with B&B-exclusive foil treatments not found in any standard booster pack. MSRP at launch was $19.99 (tcg.pokemon.com); the independent-seller floor observed on October 8, 2026, is $47.90 USD.
What's inside the Surging Sparks Build & Battle Box
| Item | Qty | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| 40-card prebuilt deck | 1 | One of four deck variants; matched to the promo Pokémon inside |
| Foil promo card | 1 | Random: Pikachu ex, Alolan Exeggutor ex, Archaludon ex, or Latias ex |
| Surging Sparks booster packs (SV08) | 4 | Same pack contents as any sealed SV08 product |
| Pokémon TCG Live code card | 1 | Redeems for a digital deck on the free app |
The deck variant is randomized alongside the promo: a Pikachu ex promo pairs with a Lightning-type deck build, an Archaludon ex promo with a Metal build, and so on. The deck is preassembled and legal for play at prerelease events directly out of the box.
The 40-card deck is separate from the four booster packs. It is built from the Surging Sparks set card pool by the prerelease program, using simplified combinations of attacks and Energy to make each deck functional without modifications.
The four promo cards use a foil treatment unique to the Build & Battle Box. Pikachu ex, Alolan Exeggutor ex, Archaludon ex, and Latias ex each appear in the standard SV08 set, but the B&B foil versions carry artwork and a stamp not available through booster pack pulls. Buying an entire Surging Sparks booster box will not produce a B&B promo.

MSRP and price per pack
At the $19.99 launch MSRP, the Build & Battle Box costs $5.00 per pack. The Booster Bundle delivered six packs for the same $19.99, making it the cheaper per-pack option at retail. The Surging Sparks Elite Trainer Box launched at $49.99 and included nine packs, accessories, and a Magneton promo.
| Product | MSRP at launch | Packs | Per pack at MSRP |
|---|---|---|---|
| Build & Battle Box | $19.99 (tcg.pokemon.com) | 4 | $5.00 |
| Booster Bundle | $19.99 | 6 | $3.33 |
| Elite Trainer Box | $49.99 (tcg.pokemon.com) | 9 | $5.55 |
At secondary prices observed on October 8, 2026, the Build & Battle Box floor sits at $47.90 USD from independent sellers. That puts the effective per-pack cost at $11.98: nearly three times the per-pack rate of a loose SV08 booster pack from the same shops. At today's secondary prices, the B&B Box is a promo-card purchase, not a value-per-pack buy.
How it compares to other SV08 sealed products
| Product | Packs | Promo | Deck included | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Build & Battle Box | 4 | 1 of 4 B&B-exclusive foils | Yes (40-card prebuilt) | Prerelease players; specific promo collectors |
| Booster Bundle | 6 | None | No | Most packs per dollar at MSRP |
| Elite Trainer Box | 9 | Magneton foil + accessories | No | Competitive players; box collectors |
The Build & Battle format is the only sealed Surging Sparks product that included a prerelease-legal deck. On prerelease weekend (October 26, 2024), it was the product participating game stores required to play in an official event. The Surging Sparks ETB vs Booster Bundle guide covers the two products that do not include a deck, if that is your primary question.
Surging Sparks was the last SV-series main set before the Mega Evolution era. For context on how all Build & Battle formats work across the SV and Mega Evolution lineups, the Build & Battle Boxes guide covers the full range.

Who it's for, and who should skip it
Buy it if
You want one of the four B&B-exclusive foil promos: Pikachu ex, Alolan Exeggutor ex, Archaludon ex, or Latias ex. These foil versions are only available in this product. You also want a complete, playable 40-card Surging Sparks deck as an introduction to the SV08 set's mechanics, without building from scratch.
Skip it if
You are opening packs to chase rare pulls. The four SV08 packs inside yield the same pull rates as any four Surging Sparks packs, and at current secondary prices you are paying a significant per-pack premium over the Booster Bundle or loose packs. The ETB gives nine packs and accessories at a better per-pack rate on the secondary market.
As a gift for a Pokémon TCG player, the Build & Battle Box works well at the $47–$61 price point: it is self-contained, playable immediately, and includes a unique promo. For more gift ideas across price points, the Pokémon holiday gift guide covers TCG and non-TCG options.
