By Dexhaul Team · October 13, 2026 · 5 min read
The Champion's Path Elite Trainer Box contains 10 Sword & Shield Champion's Path booster packs, one full-art Charizard V promo card, and 65 Gigantamax Charizard card sleeves. It launched on September 25, 2020 at a $49.99 MSRP.
Champion's Path is a Sword & Shield special mini-set (designated SWSH3.5) released between Darkness Ablaze and Vivid Voltage. Unlike the numbered main sets, it was distributed primarily through select retail channels including Target stores in the United States.
The set is heavily centered on Charizard, featuring Charizard VMAX as its headline card across multiple art prints. The ETB's Charizard V promo is a full-art card exclusive to this product. For a complete breakdown of the set's card pool and rarity distribution, see the Champion's Path set guide.

The Charizard V promo in the ETB is a distinct card from the Charizard V prints found inside Champion's Path booster packs. It carries a promo stamp and is not obtainable through pack opening. The Champion's Path set on Bulbapedia lists the full card breakdown, including pack-legal Charizard variants and their rarity designations.
MSRP and price per pack
| Version | MSRP at launch | Packs | MSRP per pack | Secondary market range (observed Oct 13, 2026) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Standard ETB | $49.99 (pokemon.com) | 10 | $5.00 | $194–$456 USD |
At $5.00 per pack at MSRP, the Champion's Path ETB offered a lower cost-per-pack than the $49.99 standard-set ETBs of the era, which contained 8 packs at $6.24 each. Secondary market prices observed in independent shops in October 2026 ranged from $194 to $456 USD, with the spread reflecting condition, seller region, and shipping costs.
How it compares to other 2020 SWSH ETBs
| ETB | Set code | Release date | Packs | Promo card | MSRP |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Rebel Clash ETB | SWSH2 | May 1, 2020 | 8 | None | $44.99 |
| Darkness Ablaze ETB | SWSH3 | Aug 14, 2020 | 8 | None | $44.99 |
| Champion's Path ETB | SWSH3.5 | Sep 25, 2020 | 10 | Full-art Charizard V | $49.99 |
| Vivid Voltage ETB | SWSH4 | Nov 13, 2020 | 8 | None | $44.99 |
Champion's Path is the only SWSH special set of 2020. Every other SWSH product released that year was a numbered main set. The extra packs and exclusive Charizard V promo card differentiated it structurally from the surrounding releases. The Charizard V promo has remained collectible specifically because it cannot be obtained any other way.
For collectors working through the SWSH era, Champion's Path sits between Darkness Ablaze and Vivid Voltage in the product timeline. Its Charizard VMAX is one of the most recognized cards from the entire SWSH period.
Release timeline
| Date | Milestone | Source |

| November 13, 2020 | Vivid Voltage (SWSH4) releases; Champion's Path production ends with the original print run | Bulbapedia |
No reprint of the Champion's Path ETB has been announced. Stock in independent shops today comes from original sealed inventory held by hobby retailers and collectors. The set's Target-adjacent distribution model limited the initial print run compared to widely distributed main-set ETBs.
Who it's for, and who should skip it
Champion's Path ETB suits collectors building out the 2020 SWSH product line, specifically those chasing Charizard VMAX in its original print run. The exclusive full-art Charizard V promo is the primary draw for anyone who wants a card that has no reprint path. It is also a natural choice for collectors who focus on ETBs with promo cards rather than standard pack bundles.
Players looking for current Scarlet & Violet format cards will not find anything Standard-legal here. No SWSH-era cards remain legal in the current rotation. Singles sourced from any era are a more direct route if specific cards are the goal.
Budget-conscious collectors who want a SWSH-era ETB for the sleeves and accessories, without the Charizard premium, have more affordable options in Rebel Clash or Darkness Ablaze. The Champion's Path secondary market price reflects the Charizard demand specifically.
