Evolving Skies Build & Battle Box (2021): Contents and MSRP
By Dexhaul Team · October 19, 2026 · 6 min read
The Evolving Skies Build & Battle Box contains four Sword & Shield: Evolving Skies booster packs, a 23-card Evolution Pack, and one of four alternate-art promo cards. TPCi does not publish MSRP on sealed products of this type. The box went on sale at participating retailers from August 14, 2021, thirteen days before the main set released on August 27, 2021.
It is the prerelease kit for SWSH07. No separate purchase unlocks the alternate-art promos: they exist only in this box.

What's inside the Evolving Skies Build & Battle Box
The official press release (press.pokemon.com, June 10, 2021) confirms the full contents.
| Item | Quantity | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Evolving Skies booster packs | 4 | 10 cards per pack (standard SWSH configuration) |
| Evolution Pack (23-card) | 1 | Key cards from Evolving Skies and prior Sword & Shield sets; includes the promo card below |
| Alternate-art promo card | 1 (random, 1 of 4) | Exclusive to this product; not available in standard booster packs |
| Deckbuilding tip sheet | 1 | Guides new players through building a 40-card deck from the box |
| Basic Energy | Not included | Required to complete the 40-card deck; available separately |
The 23-card Evolution Pack gives new players an immediate card pool spanning multiple sets. Combined with the four booster packs and basic Energy cards, it provides everything needed to build and play a 40-card introductory deck. That complete playability is the point of the Build & Battle format: most sealed Pokémon TCG products are for collecting, not immediate play.
Current prices and price per pack
Evolving Skies Build & Battle Boxes are out of print. Sealed boxes now trade entirely on the secondary market at significant premiums over the original retail price. These are the current prices from independent shops on DexHaul, as observed on October 19, 2026.
| Price point | Cost per pack (4 packs) | Context |
|---|---|---|
| Original retail (August 2021) | N/A (MSRP not publicly listed) | No longer available at retail price |
| $188.99 USD | $47.25 per pack | Lower-priced listing observed on DexHaul, October 19, 2026 |
| $375.00 USD | $93.75 per pack | Higher-priced listing observed on DexHaul, October 19, 2026 |
At any of those per-pack figures, the B&B Box costs far more per pack than buying individual Evolving Skies booster packs separately. The premium is for the sealed box and the exclusive alternate-art promo card, not for the pack content itself.
How it compares to the Evolving Skies ETB
The Build & Battle Box and the Elite Trainer Box are both sealed Evolving Skies products, but they serve different purposes. Understanding the difference before buying is worth a minute.
| Product | Packs | Promo card | Accessories | Playable out of the box |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Build & Battle Box (SWSH07) | 4 packs | 1 of 4 alternate-art promos (exclusive) | Deckbuilding tip sheet only | Yes (with basic Energy) |
| Evolving Skies ETB | 8 packs | 1 of 8 Eeveelution foil promos | Sleeves, damage counters, coin, storage box | No (cards only, no Evolution Pack) |
| Chilling Reign B&B Box (SWSH06) | 4 packs | 1 of 4 alternate-art Black Star promos | Deckbuilding tip sheet only | Yes (with basic Energy) |
The ETB gives you more packs (8 vs 4) and includes card sleeves and accessories. The B&B Box gives you the alternate-art promo exclusive and a ready-to-build deck format with the 23-card Evolution Pack. They are complementary products, not substitutes.
Release timeline
Evolving Skies (SWSH07) followed a standard SWSH-era prerelease schedule. All dates and descriptions are from the official press release (press.pokemon.com, June 10, 2021) and Bulbapedia's set page.
| Date | Event | Source |
|---|---|---|
| August 14, 2021 | Build & Battle Box available at participating retailers (prerelease) | press.pokemon.com, June 10, 2021 |
| August 27, 2021 | Sword & Shield: Evolving Skies wide release; ETB, booster boxes, bundles available | press.pokemon.com, June 10, 2021 |
The thirteen-day prerelease window made the B&B Box the only way to open Evolving Skies packs before the general release date. Local game stores running prerelease events typically received limited quantities.
Who should buy it, and who should skip it
The Evolving Skies Build & Battle Box is a niche purchase at 2026 prices. Here is who it suits and who it does not.
Buy it if you want the exclusive promo
The four alternate-art promo cards that shipped in this box were never distributed in any other Evolving Skies product. If you are completing an Evolving Skies promo set or want a specific variant, the B&B Box is the only sealed route. Verify the specific promo card variant with each seller before buying, since the promo is random.
Buy it for set-complete display
Collectors aiming for a complete Evolving Skies sealed-product display will want the B&B Box alongside the ETB, booster bundle, and any premium collections. It is the prerelease format and occupies a distinct slot in the product line.
Skip it if you just want packs
Four packs at $188.99 to $375.00 works out to roughly $47 to $94 per pack. Buying individual Evolving Skies booster packs separately costs a fraction of that. The B&B Box makes no sense as a bulk-pack purchase at current prices.
Skip it as an entry point for new players
In 2021 the Build & Battle Box was a sensible way to start playing. In 2026 the format is no longer legal in Standard play, and far cheaper entry-level products exist. New players should look at current-era Starter Deck&Build sets or Battle Decks instead.
Frequently asked questions
What are the four promo cards in the Evolving Skies Build & Battle Box?
The official press release confirms four alternate-art promo cards without naming them individually. Check Bulbapedia's Evolving Skies page for the complete promo card list with set numbers: those details are sourced and maintained there.
How many packs are in the Evolving Skies Build & Battle Box?
Four packs. Each pack contains 10 cards, for 40 booster pack cards total. The box also includes a 23-card Evolution Pack, bringing the total card count to 63 cards before basic Energy.
Is the Evolving Skies Build & Battle Box still in print?
No. Evolving Skies was a 2021 Sword & Shield era set and is out of print. All current listings are secondary market sales from independent sellers at prices above the original retail price.
Can you build a playable deck with the B&B Box?
Yes, with one addition: basic Energy cards. The 23-card Evolution Pack plus the four booster packs give you enough cards to construct a 40-card deck.
Basic Energy is not included but is available separately from most card shops.
How does the Evolving Skies B&B Box differ from the ETB?
The Build & Battle Box has 4 packs and includes the exclusive alternate-art promo and a 23-card Evolution Pack for immediate deck building. The Elite Trainer Box has 8 packs, Eeveelution promo cards, sleeves, a coin, damage counters, and a deck box, but no Evolution Pack and no B&B-exclusive promos.
