Where Journey Together Wins

The cheapest 36-pack SV-era box at independent shops

The non-enhanced Journey Together box has the lowest per-pack price of any current SV-era booster display. At the observed floor of around $188 (October 2026), you are paying about $5.22 per pack, close to what a single sleeved pack would run at the same shops.

That gap widens against Destined Rivals. At the DR floor of around $444, you are paying $12.33 per pack for the exact same card format: 10 cards, same rarity distribution structure, same SV-series odds. The per-pack premium for Destined Rivals is driven entirely by demand for its specific card lineup, not by any structural difference in the box.

The Enhanced format adds an exclusive Box Topper

Journey Together is one of the few SV-era sets to ship in two booster box variants. The non-enhanced is a straight 36-pack display. The enhanced adds a Box Topper pack alongside those same 36 packs.

The Box Topper is not sold individually through any retail channel. If you want it, the only route is the enhanced box. Our Enhanced vs Non-Enhanced guide covers the price gap in detail: at the floor, the Box Topper effectively costs around $50 above the non-enhanced price. Whether that is worth it depends entirely on your collecting goals for the SV09 card lineup.

Destined Rivals has no equivalent format split. Every DR booster box is the standard 36-pack display.

More settled secondary market pricing

Journey Together entered the market in March 2025. By October 2026, that is 18 months of price history. The non-enhanced box has found a stable trading range that gives buyers a realistic floor to compare against.

Destined Rivals has been in the market since May 2025, but its Team Rocket positioning keeps demand elevated and the price less predictable. If you are opening boxes regularly and want consistency in your per-pack cost, Journey Together delivers that.

Where Destined Rivals Wins

Destined Rivals Booster Boxes & Cases

$479.99 USD

The first SV-era main set to center Team Rocket

Destined Rivals carries the "Whose Side Are You On" tag line and puts Team Rocket at the front of its card lineup. Giovanni appears as a Special Illustration Rare, and Team Rocket's Mewtwo ex is the set's headline chase card.

No previous SV-era main set did this. That historic framing matters to collectors who track the franchise's card design arc. The Destined Rivals Booster Box fact-sheet lists the full rarity breakdown.

A larger main print run

Destined Rivals spans 220 standard-numbered cards before secret rares. Journey Together has 159 standard-numbered cards, with the full 196-card count including 37 above-set-number Illustration Rares and Special Illustration Rares.

More cards in the main print run means more variety per box at the common and uncommon tiers. For players building out a collection with competitive staples, Destined Rivals gives more cards per set to fill in versus Journey Together.

Ally-facing chase cards alongside the rivalry theme

Beyond Team Rocket, Destined Rivals includes Special Illustration Rares featuring Cynthia and Garchomp ex, Ethan and Ho-Oh ex, and Arven and Mabosstiff ex. The rivalry theme extends across both sides of the conflict, giving the set a broader SIR pool than a pure villain-focused lineup would.

Journey Together's SIR targets are centered on trainer-partner pairings and Legendary Pokémon. Both sets have strong Illustration Rare and SIR offerings; the question is which narrative resonates more with your collection direction.

The Deciding Question

The $250-plus per-box gap is the clearest filter here.

If you are opening boxes for the SV-era rarity experience and want the most packs per dollar, Journey Together Non-Enhanced at the current floor is the choice. It costs less than a single Destined Rivals booster box to buy the equivalent 36 packs. Players testing the set, or collectors who want to sample the pull rates before committing to a case, will find Journey Together far less costly to experiment with.

If Team Rocket's Mewtwo ex or Giovanni SIR is the specific target, Destined Rivals is the only path. There is no substitute set for those cards; they exist only in SV10. The collector premium is real, but so is the exclusivity.

A middle path exists for Destined Rivals buyers: the Booster Bundle gives 6 packs at a per-pack rate that is significantly lower than the booster box's secondary market floor. If you want to sample SV10 before committing to a full box, the Bundle is the rational entry point. Frequently Asked Questions

How many packs are in each booster box?

Both Journey Together and Destined Rivals booster boxes contain 36 packs, with 10 cards each. Journey Together also ships in an Enhanced format that adds a Box Topper pack alongside those 36 packs; Destined Rivals does not have an Enhanced variant.

Why is the Destined Rivals booster box so much more expensive?

Demand for the Team Rocket card lineup, specifically Team Rocket's Mewtwo ex and Giovanni as Special Illustration Rares, keeps secondary market prices elevated. Neither booster box has a published MSRP from The Pokémon Company International; all pricing is set by independent shops. As of October 2026, the Journey Together non-enhanced floor is around $188 and the Destined Rivals floor is around $444.

Does Journey Together have an Enhanced Booster Box?

Yes. Journey Together is one of the few SV-era sets to offer both a standard (non-enhanced) booster box and an Enhanced version that includes a Box Topper pack. The Box Topper cannot be purchased separately; the Enhanced box is the only way to obtain it at retail. Destined Rivals ships only in the standard 36-pack format.

Which set has better chase cards?

Different targets suit different collectors. Journey Together's top chase cards are trainer-partner Special Illustration Rares, including Legendary-focused full-bleed artwork from the set's 196 cards. Destined Rivals centers its chase pool on Team Rocket: Giovanni, Team Rocket's Mewtwo ex, alongside ally-side SIRs for Cynthia, Ethan, and Arven. If you are targeting Team Rocket cards specifically, only Destined Rivals has them.

Which came first, Journey Together or Destined Rivals?

Journey Together (SV09) released March 28, 2025. Destined Rivals (SV10) followed on May 30, 2025. Both are part of the Scarlet and Violet series. Their Japanese equivalents are Battle Partners (SV9, also March 2025) for Journey Together and Heat Wave Arena (SV9A) for Destined Rivals.
