Lost Origin ETB (2022): Contents and MSRP

The Lost Origin Elite Trainer Box is the flagship sealed product from SWSH11, the set that brought the Lost Zone back to competitive play.

The box contains 8 booster packs from the Lost Origin expansion (SWSH11), 65 Giratina V card sleeves, 45 Basic Energy cards, a VSTAR marker, damage counter dice, a flip coin, dividers, and a player's guide. MSRP at launch was $49.99 USD, per the official Pokémon product listing. The set released September 9, 2022.

One important detail: this is a SWSH-era ETB, which means 8 packs, not 9. Scarlet & Violet era ETBs moved to 9 packs starting in 2023. If you're comparing the Lost Origin ETB to newer boxes, that one-pack difference changes the per-pack math.

The Pokémon Center ETB: a separate product

A Pokémon Center exclusive variant of the Lost Origin ETB also exists. It is a different product: 11 packs (not 8), two Goodra VSTAR full-art promo cards (one with a Pokémon Center logo), and different box artwork. It was sold only through the Pokémon Center website and carries a higher observed price on the secondary market.

The standard ETB and the PC ETB are often confused in listings. Check the pack count and promo card description before buying.

The Lost Zone mechanic: why this set matters

Lost Origin introduced the Lost Zone mechanic to the competitive format. Cards sent to the Lost Zone are permanently removed from play for the rest of the game. That permanence powers several key cards in the set.

The Comfey and Giratina VSTAR combination became the dominant competitive archetype from fall 2022 through early 2023. Comfey generates Flower Selecting attacks to rapidly fill the Lost Zone; once ten cards are there, Giratina VSTAR's Lost Impact attack deals 280 damage for two energy.

The engine ran essentially without counter for several months following the set's release. It was the last SWSH-era archetype to dominate before the Scarlet & Violet format launched in 2023.

The Lost Zone mechanic previously appeared in the Heart Gold & Soul Silver era (Triumphant, released November 2010). Lost Origin revived it 12 years later with an entirely different implementation.

That revival is the reason collectors and players still seek this set out today.

Who it's for, and who should skip it

Buy the Lost Origin ETB if you are a sealed collector focused on Giratina, a SWSH-era completionist building a set run, or a player who wants the full deck-building kit for a tournament-proven format. The accessories set is complete: sleeves, VSTAR marker, energy, dice, storage box.

Skip it if you want the most packs per dollar. The Booster Box at 36 packs offers significantly better per-pack economics, and the Booster Bundle at 6 packs costs less in absolute terms. The ETB's value comes from the accessories bundle, not the pack count.

Also skip it if you want to crack fresh packs at MSRP. Lost Origin is no longer in primary distribution, and all observed prices today are substantially above the $49.99 launch MSRP. If budget is the constraint, a newer ETB from the Scarlet & Violet era gives 9 packs at a lower secondary market premium.

That is the standard for SWSH-era ETBs. Scarlet & Violet ETBs from 2023 onward contain 9 packs.

What promo card comes in the Lost Origin ETB?

Is the Lost Origin ETB still available at MSRP?

No. Lost Origin (SWSH11, September 2022) is no longer in primary distribution. Sellers on the independent market are listing the standard ETB at $189–$622 as of October 2026, well above the $49.99 launch MSRP.

What is the SWSH11 set code for Lost Origin?

Lost Origin is the 11th main Sword & Shield expansion (SWSH11). The set's official English title is "Sword and Shield: Lost Origin." Its Japanese equivalent is Lost Abyss (S11), released July 15, 2022, about seven weeks before the English release.
