Paldea Evolved Build & Battle Box (2023): Contents and MSRP
By Dexhaul Team · October 8, 2026 · 6 min read
Four SV02 booster packs, a ready-to-play deck, and a randomized foil promo: that is everything in the Pokémon TCG: Paldea Evolved Build & Battle Box.
The Build & Battle Box is the prerelease kit for Scarlet & Violet: Paldea Evolved (SV02), which released June 9, 2023. It carried a $14.99 MSRP at launch.
Prerelease copies sold at Local Game Stores in late May 2023, giving players a one-week head start on the set before it hit wide retail. Standard retail copies followed and have been available since.
DexHaul is independent and unofficial. Observed prices below reflect listings from independent shops on October 8, 2026, not manufacturer-suggested retail.

What is inside the Paldea Evolved Build & Battle Box
The box has four components. Each is fixed per the official product listing, except the promo card, which is randomized.
| Item | Quantity | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Paldea Evolved (SV02) booster packs | 4 | 10 cards per pack, same print run as the main set |
| Ready-to-play 40-card deck | 1 | Themed around the promo Pokémon; includes basic Energy and trainer cards |
| Foil promo card | 1 | One of four variants: Baxcalibur, Tinkaton, Murkrow, or Pelipper (randomized) |
| Pokémon TCG Live code card | 1 | Unlocks digital content in TCG Live |
The deck is 40 cards, not the 60-card standard required for sanctioned tournament play. It plays right out of the box for kitchen-table games, but players planning to enter a Local Game Store event will need to expand it to 60 before competing.

MSRP and price per pack
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| MSRP at launch | $14.99 |
| Booster packs included | 4 |
| MSRP per pack | ~$3.75 |
| Observed market price (October 8, 2026) | $57–$71 |
| Market price per pack equivalent (October 2026) | ~$14–$18 |
At $14.99 MSRP, the B&B Box was around $3.75 per pack. That is lower than the $5.00 MSRP per pack for individual SV02 boosters. The ready-to-play deck, promo card, and TCG Live code came at no added cost on top of those four packs.
Secondary-market prices today are substantially higher than MSRP. The boxes sell at $57–$71 across independent shops observed on October 8, 2026, making them a sealed-collection item rather than a bargain pack-opener.
The four promo card variants
One of four foil promo cards is included per box, assigned randomly at the factory. There is no external code, SKU variation, or packaging cue that reveals which promo is inside a sealed unit.
The four variants are:
- Baxcalibur: Ice-type Pokémon from the Paldea region; the deck focuses on Ice-type energy and Dragon-line support.
- Tinkaton: Steel/Fairy-type; Steel energy build with Fairy support cards.
- Murkrow: Darkness-type; a Dark-energy-focused aggro deck.
- Pelipper: Water-type; Water energy draw engine as its central card.
Each promo is an exclusive foil print: the card art matches the standard SV02 set illustration, but the foil treatment appears only in the B&B Box, not in booster packs. Buyers who want all four promos need four separate sealed boxes. Duplicates are possible, since the distribution is random per unit and not balanced in small quantities.
This randomization is the one fact most guides skip.
According to Serebii's Paldea Evolved card listing, all four promo variants are unique SVP-numbered promos distinct from the numbered cards within the main SV02 set. They do not appear in booster packs under any pull rate.
How it compares to other Paldea Evolved products
| Product | Packs | MSRP | Extras |
|---|---|---|---|
| Build & Battle Box | 4 | $14.99 | 40-card deck + randomized promo |
| Build & Battle Stadium | 11 | $44.99 | Two full B&B Boxes + 3 bonus packs + two-player mat |
| Booster Bundle | 6 | $17.99 | Packs only, no deck or extras |
| Elite Trainer Box | 9 | $49.99 | Sleeves, dice, condition markers, full accessory set |
The Build & Battle Box has the lowest pack count and the lowest MSRP of the four formats. Its advantage is the prebuilt deck, which no other format includes. The ETB and Booster Bundle are better options for players focused purely on pack volume.
The Build & Battle Stadium (released June 23, 2023, two weeks after the main set) packages two complete B&B Boxes plus three additional SV02 booster packs and a two-player playmat. Each of the two decks inside comes with its own randomized promo, so a Stadium buyer gets two of the four promo variants in one sealed purchase.
That makes the Stadium the more practical option for pairs and for Local Game Store hosts running prerelease events. Compare with the Obsidian Flames Build & Battle Box if you want the SV03 equivalent.
Who should buy it, and who should skip it
The Paldea Evolved Build & Battle Box is the right choice for a beginner who wants to open packs and play right away without assembling a deck separately. The 40-card prebuilt deck removes the card-selection step, and the four booster packs give immediate variety.
It is also a practical buy for a promo collector targeting one of the four SV02 promo variants for a sealed set or binder. The exclusive foil treatment does not exist anywhere else in the SV02 product range.
Skip it if your goal is pure pack volume. The Booster Bundle gives two extra packs at a similar MSRP, and the ETB gives nine.
Skip it too if you want to play competitively: the 40-card deck needs to be expanded to 60 cards before it is legal at sanctioned events. The deck is a learning tool, not a tournament-ready build.
At current secondary-market prices of $57–$71 observed October 8, 2026, the math for pack-opening no longer works. You are paying roughly three to four times the per-pack MSRP. At that price level, the sealed box is a collector's item, not a budget option.
