Aura Seeker's Johto Beasts: Suicune, Entei, and Raikou Teased as ex★ Cards
By Dexhaul Team · September 3, 2026
The Johto legendary beasts are entering the ex★ tier, and that widens the Aura Seeker collecting arc beyond anything the initial Worlds 2026 reveal suggested.
Three Beasts, One Signal
Coverage of the Pokémon Worlds 2026 closing ceremony confirmed that Suicune, Entei, and Raikou have been teased as ex★ cards for the TCG's Mega Evolution product line.
They join two cards already confirmed for this era: Mega Lucario Z ex★ and Mega Greninja ex★, both anchored to the Aura Seeker (M7) set. No release date, set name, or product format has been announced for the Johto trio yet.
That last point matters. A tease is not a pre-order. Here is how to read the reveal without getting ahead of the actual product pipeline.
What ex★ Is and Why It Is Different
The ex★ designation is the apex rarity of the 2026 Pokémon TCG Mega Evolution era.
It sits above standard ex cards and above Special Art Rares in the pull hierarchy. Per Bulbapedia's documentation of Mega Evolution in the TCG, the Mega mechanic has appeared in different forms across multiple card game eras. The 2026 version is a distinct era, not a reprint cycle of the XY Mega EX cards.
The ex★ cards are not simply the old Mega EX cards with a new name. They carry a separate rarity tier and appear across a multi-set product arc, with each major Mega Evolution release built around one or two ex★ headliner cards.
The ex★ Roster Does Not Follow the Game Canon
This is the collector insight that most coverage has missed.
In the mainline Pokémon games, only 46 Pokémon received official Mega Evolutions across XY and ORAS. Suicune, Entei, and Raikou are not among them. Greninja is also not on that list: its in-game transformation is Battle Bond, not a Mega Evolution, and it has never been classified as a Mega Evolution Pokémon in the mainline series.
Yet Mega Greninja ex★ is confirmed for Aura Seeker. The Johto beasts are teased for the same era.
What this signals is that the 2026 TCG Mega Evolution era is creating new Mega-style card treatments independent of the game canon. The ex★ roster is not capped by the 46 official Mega Pokémon. Any Pokémon the design team chooses can receive this treatment, and collectors have no existing reference list to work from.
For collecting strategy, that changes the math. You cannot build a "complete ex★ set" by looking at XY data. The series is open-ended.
Priority Ranking: Which ex★ Cards to Act On Now
Five ex★ cards are confirmed or teased. Three have products you can buy or pre-order today.
One has a confirmed release date in November. Two have nothing actionable yet.
Mega Greninja ex★: The Accessible Entry Point
The Mega Greninja ex Premium Collection is the lowest confirmed price point for an ex★ product at $51. It includes the Mega Greninja ex promo card, an oversized card, and booster packs. Pre-orders are open now from Hobbiesville.
For collectors who want an ex★ card without committing to the $100-plus Figure Collection, this is the correct starting point. Greninja's existing collector base is large, and the ex★ designation adds long-term relevance beyond a single set.
Mega Lucario Z ex★: The Set Anchor
Mega Lucario Z ex★ is the headliner of Aura Seeker M7 and the product around which the current launch arc is built. Two products give direct access.
The Figure Collection at $106 includes the Mega Lucario ex promo card, a physical Lucario figure, an oversized card, and booster packs. The Ascended Heroes Poster Collection at $170 gives the same promo card context with more booster packs and a large-format Mega Lucario poster instead of the figure.
If the figure is the priority, the Figure Collection is the cleaner buy. If pack count matters more, the Poster Collection offers better density per dollar.
Mega Rayquaza ex★: Lock In Before November
Delta Reign ME06 releases November 6, 2026, with Mega Rayquaza ex★ as its headliner card. The booster box is available to pre-order now at $239.95.
Rayquaza has one of the largest collector bases in the entire card game. The ex★ designation for what is already a historically desirable Pokémon makes this the most competition-heavy pre-order in the era. Pre-ordering early is the cleaner position than chasing at launch.
Suicune, Entei, and Raikou ex★: Hold
No product exists. No set has been announced. No release window has been confirmed.
The Johto beasts are teased, not launched. Paying secondary market premiums on speculation cards is not a sensible position when no authorized purchase path exists. The correct move is to follow the announcement cycle and act when products surface through official channels.
What the Johto Beasts Signal About the ex★ Era
Suicune, Entei, and Raikou each have established collector bases that predate the modern TCG era by decades.
A Suicune collector who felt no particular pull toward Mega Lucario products now has direct reason to follow the ex★ series. The same applies to the large community of Gen 2 collectors who stayed out of the Aura Seeker launch arc. The Johto reveal brings those collectors into the product pipeline, which means the total demand surface for this era just expanded.
The pattern also suggests the ex★ program will run across multiple sets and multiple years. In the XY era, Mega EX cards appeared at a rate of one or two per set across 16 expansions.
If the current Mega Evolution era follows a comparable cadence, the ex★ series is a multi-year collecting commitment, not a single-launch event. Budget and prioritize accordingly.
