Two separate announcements came out of the 2026 Pokémon World Championships, and collectors who missed the closing ceremony recap are likely treating them as one thing.

They are not.

The closing ceremony on August 31 in San Francisco included a video from The Pokémon Company. It revealed a confirmed upcoming Japanese set called Aura Seeker, and separately teased a brand-new series logo: ex★, pronounced "ex Star." Understanding the difference between these two announcements matters for anyone planning ahead in the Mega Evolution era.

Aura Seeker: The Seventh Mega Evolution Set

Aura Seeker is a real, dated set. It carries the designation M7, making it the seventh entry in the Mega Evolution block.

Its Japanese name is ハドウシーカー (Hadou Seeker), a direct reference to the aura energy that defines Lucario in the core games. According to Bill's Archive's Aura Seeker set guide, the main print run contains 78 cards and the Japanese release is set for November 27, 2026. Confirmed rarity tiers include C, U, R, RR, AR, SR, SAR, and UR.

No English release date has been announced. The localization window for previous Mega Evolution sets has run three to four months after Japan. Early 2027 is the frame most collectors are working with, though nothing is confirmed.

Mega Lucario Z ex: The Set Mascot and What It Does

The headline card is Mega Lucario Z ex, a Metal-type Stage 1 that evolves from Riolu and carries 330 HP.

That HP figure is the highest ever seen on a Stage 1 Pokémon in the modern standard era.

It runs on two mechanics. The Aura Seeker ability lets you search your deck for any Supporter card once per turn while Mega Lucario Z ex is active, giving it a built-in consistency engine on top of its bulk.

The Dancing Fist attack costs two Metal Energy and hits for 120 damage, plus 120 more against any Pokémon ex. Against the current field of ex-heavy decks, that lands for 240.

Mega Lucario Z ex is the first Z Mega Evolution Pokémon in the TCG. Z Mega Evolution is a newly introduced mechanic within the block, mechanically distinct from the standard Mega Evolution ex cards currently in the format. The Pokémon Company noted at Worlds that all cards shown are under development and subject to change.

MA Rares: Four Mega Pokémon Getting a New Rarity Tier

Aura Seeker introduces MA Rares, short for Mega Attack Rares. This is a new rarity designation within the set's pull structure.

Four MA Rare cards were revealed at Worlds: Mega Darkrai ex, Mega Greninja ex, Mega Rayquaza ex, and Mega Zygarde ex.

All four already appear in current products. Mega Darkrai ex headlines one of the three Mega Forces Tins. Mega Greninja ex has its own standalone Premium Collection.

Mega Rayquaza ex is confirmed as the centerpiece of Delta Reign ME06, the next English Mega Evolution release due November 6, 2026.

What MA Rare means in mechanical terms has not been revealed. The designation places these cards above standard rares but below the Special Art Rare tier based on the rarity list confirmed. For collectors tracking Aura Seeker as a set to complete, MA Rares will almost certainly be the pull tier driving the most box demand.

Sigilyph ex: The Counter Card Nobody Expected

The quieter card in the Worlds reveal was Sigilyph ex.

It is a Basic Psychic-type with 210 HP. Its Mega Protection ability prevents all damage from your opponent's Mega Evolution Pokémon ex attacks while Sigilyph ex is in the active position. The Power Cyclone attack hits for 140 damage with three Energy and moves an Energy card to the bench on damage.

Sigilyph ex is a built-in counter to the format it is entering.

Any Pokémon classified as a Mega Evolution Pokémon ex cannot damage it while it is active. Whether it becomes a competitive staple depends on how dominant Mega Evolution attackers remain once Aura Seeker releases.

The design intent is clear: this card was built to stop the card type that defines the current block.

Collectors who care about set completion will need it. Competitive players watching the meta will track its impact from the moment Aura Seeker hits Japan.

The ex★ Series: What Comes After Mega Evolution

The second announcement was a teaser for a new era.

As reported in Nintendo Insider's coverage of the ex★ teaser, The Pokémon Company revealed a new series logo during the Worlds closing ceremony.

Three Pokémon were shown as the first to receive ex★ cards: Raikou, Entei, and Suicune, the Johto legendary beast trio. No set name, release date, or gameplay rules were provided.

The Pokémon Company confirmed that more details would follow at a later date.

The ex★ designation represents a new series, not a subset within Mega Evolution. Just as the current block introduced Mega Evolution Pokémon ex as a defined card classification, ex★ establishes a new tier for a future era. None of the three revealed Pokémon are part of the existing Mega Evolution block.

What this means structurally: the Mega Evolution era has a defined endpoint, and The Pokémon Company is already building what follows it. The transition from Scarlet and Violet to Mega Evolution was announced months before it occurred. The ex★ teaser follows the same pattern.

What Collectors Should Do Right Now

Aura Seeker is seven to eight months away from an English release. Ex★ is further out with no confirmed date. Both announcements point toward the same immediate action: build into the Mega Evolution series now, before the next transition.

The four MA Rares revealed at Worlds are all accessible in current products.

Mega Darkrai ex is available in individual Mega Forces Tins at around $30. Mega Greninja ex is in its own Premium Collection from multiple sellers.

Mega Rayquaza ex has the most direct connection to an imminent English release: Delta Reign ME06 ships November 6, 2026, and pre-orders are open now.

Collecting the Pokémon now that will appear as chase cards in Aura Seeker means engaging with the current Mega Evolution market while it is at its most accessible. The Worlds 2026 announcement is not a reason to wait. It is a reason to move on the current sets before the next arc builds momentum.
