Diancie Collector's Guide 2026: The Only Mythical Mega
By Dexhaul Team · September 29, 2026
Diancie is the only Mythical Pokémon in the franchise to have a Mega Evolution.
That combination puts it in a collecting tier of exactly one. Every other Mythical (Mew, Celebi, Jirachi, Deoxys, Darkrai, and the rest) cannot Mega Evolve. Diancie can, and the TCG built a dedicated arc around it.
The collecting path runs from under $2 for base holos to a Special Illustration Rare at an unusual price point. Here is how it maps out.
What Diancie Actually Is
Diancie is a Rock/Fairy type introduced in Generation 6 (X and Y, 2013), classified as Mythical in the official Pokédex. Mythical Pokémon are distinguished from Legendaries by their event-only distribution: you cannot catch a Diancie through normal gameplay, and the franchise has never added one to a standard in-game location.
Diancie shares its Rock/Fairy typing and crystalline appearance with Carbink, a common wild Pokémon found in Kalos caves. The two are lore-linked: Pokédex entries describe a rare phenomenon where a Carbink can transform into a Diancie, though the two are not part of the same evolutionary line and the transformation cannot be triggered by the player.
Mega Diancie was introduced alongside the 2014 film "Diancie and the Cocoon of Destruction." The official Pokédex lists Mega Diancie as a Rock/Fairy type with the Magic Bounce Ability, reflecting incoming status moves back at opponents. No other Mythical in the franchise has received this form designation.
TCG Entry: Base Holos and the Radiant Collection Card
Diancie's modern base in the SWSH era is the Vivid Voltage holo (079/185, $0.35–$2.22) and Burning Shadows (94/147, $1.99–$2.00). Both are standard holo rares: clean card photography, easy to find, easy to slab if grading is the goal.
The first collector milestone above the holo tier is Diancie RC22/RC32 from XY: Generations (2016). Generations used a Radiant Collection sub-set for fan-favorite Pokémon, and Diancie was included.
The RC treatment uses a distinctive pink-foil background not present in the main Generations card pool. At $7, it is the most visually distinct card in the entry range.
The XY43 Black Star Promo (Diancie-EX, CA$12.99) is the movie tie-in. It was distributed with event tickets for "Diancie and the Cocoon of Destruction" in 2014 and through "Brilliant Legends" products in later years. It is one of the few dedicated EX promos for a Mythical character in the XY era, and the foil treatment is distinct from standard set prints.
The Mega Evolution Arc
ME02: Phantasmal Flames gave Diancie its first Mega EX card: Mega Diancie ex 041/094, a Double Rare at $1.29–$3. That price point deserves a note.
ME02 co-features Mega Heracross, Mega Latias, Mega Latios, and Mega Lopunny. Those headliners trade higher.
Diancie's Mega ex is structurally above the set ceiling (041 out of 094), carrying the same above-ceiling designation as the set's most valued cards, but the market values Diancie's Mythical niche well below the popular choices. That gap makes it an accessible entry into the ME02 Mega arc.
The sealed product tie-in is the Mega Battle Deck (Mega Gengar/Diancie ex, $21.99–$29). Two competitive-ready decks in one box: one built around Gengar ex, one around Diancie ex.
The pairing reflects a Ghost/Fairy symmetry that works as a display set as well as a playable one. It is still in print and widely available across independent shops.
The SIR That Stays Affordable
Diancie SV36/SV94 in Hidden Fates (2019) is the Shiny Vault entry at $6. The Shiny Vault sits above the standard Hidden Fates set ceiling of 68 cards, placing this card in the same structural position as the Shiny Charizard that commands $700+.
Diancie's niche status keeps the price flat despite the identical tier designation. It is a clean way to own an above-set Hidden Fates card without the premium attached to popular characters.
The top of the accessible range is the ME: Ascended Heroes SIR: Mega Diancie ex 267/217 at $5.90–$7.00.
For context: Ascended Heroes SIRs for Mega Charizard and Mega Lucario trade at $50–$200+. The SIR rarity tier is identical across all of them, using the same above-ceiling numbering and full-art treatment.
Diancie's accessible price reflects demand, not a different card type. A collector who wants an SIR in a display without the flagship character price point will not find many options across the ME series at this level.
It is worth noting that no SV-era main series set has given Diancie an ex, SIR, or Illustration Rare in English as of September 2026. The ME: Ascended Heroes SIR is currently the highest-rarity English Diancie card in print.
Plush
The Pokémon Fit plush ($24.00, available through Ichiba Japan and similar importers) is the primary Diancie plush in Western distribution. Pokémon Fit uses a compact seated format sized for shelf display.
There is no Sitting Cuties format and no Sanei All Star Collection version currently distributed to Western markets. The Fit is entry and ceiling in one.
Collecting Summary
The Diancie collecting path runs from a $0.35 base holo to a $7 SIR, with a $24 plush and a $21.99 sealed battle deck as the conversion anchors. No other Mythical Pokémon has a Mega-focused product arc, which makes this a structurally distinct line from the rest of the Mythical catalog.
The Ascended Heroes SIR at under $7 is the case study: it is the only Mythical SIR in the ME series at an entry-level price. Collectors building a Mythical display or a Mega Evolution sub-collection will not find many comparable options elsewhere in the catalog.
