Kyurem Collector's Guide 2026: White Form, Black Form, and the $56 Dragon Vault Secret
By Dexhaul Team · September 16, 2026
Collecting Kyurem means collecting three Pokémon at once.
Kyurem (National Dex #646) is the Boundary Pokémon from the Unova region, introduced in Black and White. The DNA Splicers item allows it to fuse with Reshiram, producing White Kyurem, or with Zekrom, producing Black Kyurem.
Each fused form has its own separate line of TCG cards spanning every era from BW to the current SV series. That tripling effect makes Kyurem unusual: a complete collection requires tracking three distinct card catalogs under a single Pokédex number.
No other Ice-type legendary in TCG history generates three separate card identities by design. Standard Kyurem draws on its Dragon and Ice heritage. White Kyurem EX cards draw on Reshiram's fire.
Black Kyurem EX cards draw on Zekrom's lightning. Three types, one Pokédex entry.
For most Pokémon, "collecting the character" means following one print line. For Kyurem, it means three.
This guide covers each form's price ceiling, the cheapest entry points available right now, and the one sealed product that puts the fusion pair in a single box.
Standard Kyurem: Dragon Vault and the Above-Set Secret
The highest-value standard Kyurem single in the current market comes from a set most collectors have never opened.
Dragon Vault is a 2012 BW-era mini-set with exactly 20 numbered cards. Kyurem 21/20 sits one number above that total: the above-set designation made it the BW era's version of a "secret rare," a card type with no formal name in the rulebook at the time. Dragon Vault was distributed exclusively through select Toys R Us promotions rather than as standalone booster boxes, limiting total print volume across the entire set.
The result is that Kyurem 21/20 trades at $56 raw today, significantly above every other standard Kyurem single. It is also one of the earliest examples of an above-set numbered English TCG card outside the Base Set 2 era, predating the formal Secret Rare and Special Illustration Rare system by several years. Set-completionists and Dragon-type specialist collectors both drive demand.
Below Dragon Vault, standard Kyurem singles from the BW base sets trade under $5 raw. The Kyurem EX (25/98) from XY Ancient Origins lists at $3.40 and the Full Art version (86/98) at $21.00, offering a clear three-tier structure: budget BW prints, XY Full Art mid-range, and Dragon Vault at the ceiling.
Black Kyurem: From $2 SV ex to a $63 XY Full Art Promo
Black Kyurem has the widest single-form price spread of the three Kyurem identities.
The Black Kyurem XY80 Full Art Promo is the form's most-searched single. It was distributed during specific XY-era promotional events rather than through standard booster packs, which kept supply limited relative to demand.
Active listings range from $9.99 for played or graded-lower copies to $63.00 for NM raw at Black Rose Hobbies, with $50 to $51 being the consistent mid-market range. The earlier BW58 Black Kyurem (Black Star Promos) offers a more accessible entry at $18.97, printed without full-art treatment.
In the SV era, Black Kyurem ex 157/086 from Black Bolt (SV11B) lists at $2.00, making it the cheapest ex-rarity Black Kyurem in English TCG history. Black Bolt was released as the companion "dark" set to White Flare, and the card's above-set numbering (157 above an 086-card base set) places it in the Illustration Rare tier. For collectors building a budget Black Kyurem line, the Black Bolt ex is the natural starting point before working backward toward the XY80 promo ceiling.
White Kyurem: The BW EX Promo Entry and Boundaries Crossed
White Kyurem's current print market is the smallest and most affordable of the three forms.
The White Kyurem EX BW63 (Black and White: Black Star Promos) lists at $8.41, making it the cheapest EX-rarity card among all three Kyurem identities. Boundaries Crossed (BW era, 2012) introduced the two fused-form EX cards as part of the main set: White Kyurem EX 142/149 and Black Kyurem EX 145/149. These are the first paired appearances of the fusion forms as EX-rarity cards in a standard booster set and represent the mid-tier entry point for BW-era fused Kyurem collecting.
White Kyurem has no V, VMAX, VSTAR, or ex card in any English SV main-series set as of this writing. Its modern print ceiling is capped at the BW promo tier, which keeps raw prices lower than Black Kyurem across every era. Collectors focused on White Kyurem will find it easier to complete the line at a lower overall outlay.
Kyurem VMAX: Lost Origin's Undervalued Holo
Kyurem VMAX 049/196 is from Sword and Shield Lost Origin (SWSH11), released in 2022.
Raw copies trade at $2.11 to $3.00 across multiple current listings. That pricing is structurally low for a VMAX holo rare in a major SWSH booster set.
Lost Origin's primary chase card was Giratina VSTAR, whose early-market demand absorbed most collector attention in the set. Kyurem VMAX landed in the same set with appreciably less secondary-market heat.
The grading upside is visible: a CGC Pristine 10 copy reaches $50 and a CGC 9 lists at $25, representing a 10x-plus premium over raw price at the top grade tier. Collectors who can assess condition well can extract significant value from a card that costs $3 in raw form.
Kyurem VMAX applies to the standard Kyurem identity, not the fused forms. White Kyurem and Black Kyurem have no VMAX prints in any English set, which means Lost Origin VMAX is the only SWSH-era high-rarity anchor for the standard form.
The Black Kyurem ex Collection Box: The Fusion Pair Together
The Black Kyurem ex Collection Box is the only sealed TCG product that explicitly bundles the fusion pair.
At $59.00, the box includes Black Kyurem EX, Zekrom EX, exclusive promo cards, and four booster packs. The inclusion of Zekrom EX alongside Black Kyurem EX is intentional: Black Kyurem forms by fusing with Zekrom in the games, and the box's contents reflect that lore in a single sealed unit. Two independent sellers list the box at the same price point, so there is no spread to arbitrage between them.
For collectors who want a tangible representation of the fusion mechanic without chasing individual singles across multiple eras, the Collection Box is the most direct path. It also functions as an entry point into the BW-era EX format at a retail-comparable price.
Pokémon Fit Kyurem and White Kyurem Plush
The Pokémon fit Kyurem and Pokémon fit White Kyurem plush both list at $24.99 from Collector Store LLC, making them one of the few Pokémon plush lines where standard form and alternate form carry an identical price.
Both are Japanese Pokémon Center exclusives, available in the West only through importers. The weighted, palm-sized design stands upright without support.
Standard Kyurem presents in grey-blue. White Kyurem carries the white and pale-blue palette it inherits from Reshiram. Neither version is stocked in Western retail chains, so importer availability is the only route to either plush.
A Kyurem plush collection in both forms currently runs $49.98 combined: two forms, one Pokédex entry, same price per unit.
Price Summary: Three Forms, One Pokédex Entry
Kyurem's three-card-line structure produces an unusually wide price band for a single character.
- Standard Kyurem: $2–$56 (BW singles to Dragon Vault 21/20)
- White Kyurem: $8.41–$21 (BW63 EX promo to BW Boundaries Crossed set EX)
- Black Kyurem: $1.50–$63 (SV Surging Sparks stamp to XY80 Full Art Promo)
- VMAX (standard form): $2.11–$50 (Lost Origin raw to CGC Pristine 10)
- Sealed: $59 (Black Kyurem ex Collection Box, fusion pair bundled)
- Plush: $24.99 each (both forms, importer-only)
White Kyurem is the most accessible form to complete at a budget. Black Kyurem carries the highest ceiling among the fused forms. Standard Kyurem's Dragon Vault ceiling at $56 is driven by print-distribution scarcity from a promotional-exclusive mini-set, not by character demand alone.
