Axew, Fraxure, and Haxorus Collector's Guide 2026: Dragon Vault, Black Bolt IRs, and the Anime Legacy

Few Dragon-type lines have the collector profile that Axew, Fraxure, and Haxorus do: deep anime nostalgia, a rare 2012 Dragon-only mini-set, and three consecutive Illustration Rares in a single 2026 expansion.

Iris's Axew spent most of the Black and White anime series riding in her hair. From its debut episode through the final arc of the BW series, Axew was practically an accessory, rarely battling but constantly present. That constant screen time, with minimal evolution, made Axew one of the most recognizable anime companions of its era.

Iris herself is a Dragon-type specialist. She serves as the Opelucid City Gym Leader in Pokémon White and rises to become the Champion in Pokémon Black 2 and White 2. The connection between Iris and the Axew line runs deeper than a single anime arc: the entire Haxorus evolutionary family is tied to her identity across two game generations.

Dragon Vault: The 2012 Mini-Set

The BW Dragon Vault is the only dedicated Dragon-type mini-set ever released in the Pokémon TCG. Twenty holofoil cards, all Dragon type, all in a standalone blister format.

No booster packs, no randomness. You bought the product and got a fixed subset of Dragon-type holos.

Every stage of the Axew line appeared in Dragon Vault. Axew, Fraxure, and Haxorus each received a holofoil treatment in a set where every card was printed with foil by design. For a three-stage line with no Legendary status and no competitive relevance at the time, that level of representation in a 20-card set is notable.

Dragon Vault holofoils in NM condition run $2 to $5 across the three stages in today's market. They are not high-value cards, but they are the only English prints that placed the full Axew line in a curated, Dragon-only context. For a collector tracking the line's history, Dragon Vault is the starting point.

Black Bolt: All Three Stages Get Illustration Rares

The Black Bolt expansion (SV: Black Bolt) gave the Axew line something no evolution family receives in a standard set: all three stages got Illustration Rares, with consecutive above-set numbers.

Axew 145/086, Fraxure 146/086, Haxorus 147/086. The set ceiling is 86 cards. All three IRs sit above it, in sequential order, as if the full evolution chain was treated as a single collector unit.

That is not standard practice. Most sets feature one IR from an evolution line, occasionally two. All three consecutive stages in the same expansion is structurally unusual.

The price spread reflects the character hierarchy. Axew 145/086 runs $20 to $26 depending on condition and seller. Haxorus 147/086 prices significantly higher, currently ranging $67 to $100 in raw NM condition across active listings.

Fraxure 146/086 sits between them in the $30 to $50 range. The gap is entirely character demand: Haxorus is the final-form showcase card, and the Illustration Rare treatment depicts it at full force.

If you are building a complete Axew line collection and want the modern high-rarity cards, the three Black Bolt IRs are the current ceiling. No Axew, Fraxure, or Haxorus card in English has reached Illustration Rare status in any other set outside of what is documented here.

Fraxure in Shrouded Fable

Before Black Bolt, Fraxure received an Illustration Rare in Scarlet and Violet: Shrouded Fable. Fraxure 077/064 sits above the set's 64-card ceiling, consistent with the above-set IR convention the SV era established. The art is a full illustrated scene rather than a portrait treatment.

Current price: $18 to $19 USD from active US sellers. Fraxure 077/064 is the middle stage of the evolution line getting premium art before either the base or final form: that ordering is atypical, since most sets favor the final evolution for above-set treatment.

Between Shrouded Fable and Black Bolt, Fraxure is now the only middle-stage Pokémon in the Axew line with two separate Illustration Rare prints in English. That distinction will matter to completionists tracking the full IR history for the line.

Pokémon Fit Plush: The Standard Entry Points

The Pokémon fit line from the Pokémon Center gives both Axew and Haxorus a plush format. Axew fit ranges from $15 to $21 across active sellers, depending on whether you source from Japan-direct importers or Western-market resellers. Haxorus fit runs $21 to $25 for the same sourcing comparison.

The fit format is a small, poseable sitting plush with simplified proportions. It is the most widely available Axew plush format in the current market. Fraxure does not have a dedicated Pokémon fit plush as of this writing: only Axew and Haxorus are represented in that line for this evolutionary family.

Above the fit tier, Axew has an All Star Collection PP49 plush at $17 from Ichiba Japan and a Sitting Cuties format available at $61 from ToyCartUSA. The Sitting Cuties version commands a premium partly due to limited production runs and partly because the format is specifically designed for display rather than play use. Haxorus has a PC Original fit plush at $35 via importers like akibashipping for collectors who want the Pokémon Center-original packaging.

Haxorus at the Figure Tier

The Haxorus Evolution Group Statue by Ecology Studio captures all three evolutionary stages in a single diorama-style display piece. Current price is $198.99 at YesGK. This is the premium physical collectible for the line: a resin figure set rather than a plush, designed for shelf display rather than soft handling.

The three-stage group statue format is not common for non-starter, non-Legendary lines. Ecology Studio producing one for the Axew family reflects the line's consistent collector base despite the absence of Mega Evolution or Legendary status. Haxorus has a high attack stat (147) and a strong competitive history in Generation 5 formats, which contributes to sustained demand outside pure anime nostalgia.

For the figure collector who wants just the final form, scale world figures for Raikou, Entei, and Suicune have set the standard for the three-figure display format in Pokémon. The Haxorus group statue fills a similar niche for the Axew line.

How to Collect the Axew Line

The line divides cleanly into two tiers by budget.

Under $30: Axew fit plush ($15 to $21), All Star Collection Axew PP49 ($17), Dragon Vault holofoils ($2 to $5 each), and the Axew 145/086 Black Bolt IR ($20 to $26). This covers the anime identity, the 2012 mini-set landmark, and the modern above-set card for the base form.

Above $50: Fraxure 077/064 Shrouded Fable IR ($18 to $19 raw, likely to firm as supply tightens), Haxorus 147/086 Black Bolt IR ($67 to $100), and the Haxorus Ecology Studio group statue ($198.99). This tier captures the full high-rarity card set and the premium display piece.

The uniquely collectible fact about this line in 2026 is the Black Bolt set: Axew 145, Fraxure 146, and Haxorus 147 in consecutive above-set numbering is a structural anomaly that reflects a deliberate choice to treat the full family as a single collector unit. That does not happen often. Most lines get one IR member, not all three stages in sequential order.
