Xerneas and Yveltal Collector's Guide 2026: The Kalos Legendaries Before Legends Z-A
By Dexhaul Team · September 25, 2026
Pokémon Legends Z-A returns to Lumiose City on October 16, bringing the first major Kalos revisit since 2013.
Xerneas and Yveltal, the version mascots of Pokémon X and Y, are back at the center of that story. Both have active collector markets right now. Most collectors own neither, and the window before the October launch is a reasonable time to look at both seriously.
The Two Pokémon
Xerneas (#716) is the Life Pokémon, a Fairy-type stag from Pokémon X whose glowing antler tips can permanently restore life to everything around it. Yveltal (#717) is the Destruction Pokémon, a Dark/Flying entity from Pokémon Y that absorbs life energy and retreats to a dormant cocoon state when its reserves run out.
Neither has a Mega Evolution. Neither appears in the Sword and Shield Galarian Pokédex. The collector market treats them as a matched pair, but they have genuinely separate price histories and different available formats.
The Fairy Type Split
One of the most unusual things about the Xerneas TCG catalog is a type that no longer exists in competitive play.
The Pokémon TCG discontinued the Fairy energy type when the Scarlet and Violet series launched in 2023. Cards from the XY era that used Fairy typing were not retroactively changed, so XY-era Xerneas cards remain printed as Fairy type.
Any new Xerneas cards in the SV era are reclassified as Psychic. A listing for "Xerneas EX - Psychic" at around $3 represents this newer type classification.
For collectors who track type-era accuracy, Fairy-type Xerneas cards carry a designation that newer prints no longer use. Xerneas is the only current Kalos Legendary whose complete TCG catalog splits across two distinct type identities.
Yveltal's Dark type survived the SV transition intact. Every Yveltal card from XY through today uses Dark energy, making its catalog simpler to navigate.
Xerneas TCG: Entry to Premium
The entry point is the XY07 Black Star Promo Xerneas EX, available around $10 raw from specialty card sellers. This promo shipped in the Xerneas and Yveltal Collection Box when the XY era launched in 2014, making it most collectors' first dedicated Xerneas card.
The base XY set (2014) also contains a Xerneas EX 96/146 as a regular booster pack pull. Both the XY07 promo and the 96/146 EX carry the Fairy energy type and both represent the original XY launch window for the character.
For a modern sealed product, the Azure Legends Tin (Xerneas ex) at $40 to $44 is the only currently available sealed product containing a Xerneas ex card. There is no SV-era Xerneas ETB and no English-language Xerneas Premium Collection.
At the vintage sealed end: the Shiny Kalos Tin with Xerneas EX from the 2014 XY era lists at $361 from specialty sellers. This was a US market Target-exclusive release. The price reflects low remaining supply of sealed copies across a 12-year window, not card rarity within the set.
Yveltal TCG: Entry to Premium
The entry-level approach for Yveltal mirrors Xerneas closely. The XY150 promo Yveltal EX at $18.50 shipped in the same 2014 Xerneas and Yveltal Collection Box as the XY07 Xerneas promo, carrying identical collector context: a wide-distribution launch card from the XY debut window.
Where the Yveltal catalog separates from Xerneas is at the upper price tiers. The XY150a alternate-art promo Yveltal EX lists at $166, compared to the standard XY150 promo at $18.50.
Both cards share the same Pokémon, the same set designation, and the same EX rarity. The 9x premium between them is entirely art treatment: the alternate version uses a scene illustration format and was distributed through tournament channels in far smaller quantities than the standard box promo.
The Yveltal EX 144/146 Full Art from the base XY set is the primary chase single for Yveltal collectors at $96 raw. It predates both promos and is the first major full-art EX treatment for Yveltal in English TCG history.
The most compelling modern Yveltal single is the Yveltal 205/182 Illustration Rare from Paradox Rift, currently at around $37. Yveltal has no Paradox form and no ancient or future variant. The IR treatment is driven entirely by illustration quality: the scene art gives Yveltal one of the stronger full-scene treatments in the SV era, and the card carries that premium without any game-canon hook behind it.
Plush: Both Characters, Same Entry Point
Both Xerneas and Yveltal have Pokémon Fit plush from Japanese importers in the $20 to $24 range.
The Fit series uses a compact, seated construction that emphasizes each character's most recognizable features at a smaller scale than standard Poké Plush formats. For Xerneas, the Fit captures the antler silhouette and body color in detail. For Yveltal, the spread-wing shape is rendered in a folded form that keeps the overall size manageable for display.
Neither Xerneas nor Yveltal has a large-format Poké Plush in current stock. A Sitting Cuties Xerneas plush ($23) provides the only alternative format in stock for Xerneas right now. Yveltal has a limited "Boss Pretend RR" Pokémon Center plush at $62 to $65 in used condition, a PC-exclusive item from a limited production run, with no current new equivalent available.
Before October 16
Legends Z-A's October 16 launch is the most relevant development for both characters this year.
The game returns to Lumiose City and the Kalos region, revisiting the setting of Pokémon X and Y for the first time since 2013. Xerneas and Yveltal were both central to the Team Flare storyline in the original games. The Pokémon Company has not officially confirmed either Pokémon's role in Legends Z-A as of September 2026.
The current market has Xerneas at a lower collector ceiling than Yveltal, partly because Yveltal's full-art EX and alternate-art promo have established higher single-card price anchors. The range for Xerneas runs from $10 at the entry end to $44 for the only modern sealed product with an ex card. Yveltal's range runs from $18.50 to $166 for singles alone.
Whether that gap narrows depends on how prominently each character appears in the new game. Both are currently below the attention they received during the XY launch window.
