Marill has been in every main-series game since Gold and Silver, but in 2026 the Azurill, Marill, and Azumarill family finally has the catalogue depth to justify a dedicated collector guide.

The line runs from Azurill (the Baby Pokémon introduced in Generation III) through Marill to Azumarill. Each stage has its own plush range, its own TCG history spanning from the WotC era to the current Mega Evolution sets, and one venue-exclusive that stands apart from everything else currently in stock.

The Fairy Switch Most Collectors Missed

When Game Freak launched Pokémon X and Y in 2013, they introduced the Fairy type and retroactively applied it to several existing species.

Marill became Water/Fairy in Generation VI, one of a small group of Pokémon whose typing changed between their original release and a later game. The others include Jigglypuff (Pure Normal became Normal/Fairy) and Snubbull (Pure Normal became Pure Fairy). For Marill, the change added a resistance to Dragon, Dark, and Fighting moves, turning a modest Water type into a genuinely useful defensive option.

The shift is relevant to collectors because it placed the entire line in the "cute but competitively credible" category that tends to drive sustained plush and card demand across generations.

Azumarill and Huge Power

Azumarill's base Attack stat is 50.

That number is not a mistake. Azumarill's ability Huge Power doubles its Attack in battle, pushing the effective value to 100.

Paired with Belly Drum (which maxes Attack at the cost of half the user's HP) and Aqua Jet for priority, Azumarill ran as a top-tier physical Water attacker in Generation VI and VII VGC formats. It is one of the most counterintuitive threat profiles in the game: a round, blue 2-foot balloon that can outpace dedicated attackers with twice the base Attack score.

Collectors who came to this line through competitive play in the ORAS and Sun/Moon eras tend to have strong attachment to the character. That competitive legacy is one reason the Azumarill plush catalogue has breadth.

Plush: Three Tiers for the Family

The plush catalogue for Azurill, Marill, and Azumarill spans three clear price bands, each suited to a different type of collection.

Pokémon fit

The Pokémon fit line from Pokémon Center Japan gives each species a compact, simplified stuffed figure at a consistent small size. Marill fit is $19.00 and Azurill fit is $17.00, both sold through Ichiba Japan. Azumarill has its own fit version at $19.00 from the same source.

The fit range is the most accessible entry point for a species-focused collection. The style is deliberately minimal: each plush reads as an icon of the character rather than a detailed sculpture, which makes them easy to display in large groups.

All Star Collection (PP series)

San-ei Boeki's All Star Collection line uses a PP numbering system to catalog every species plush they have produced. Marill is PP29; Azumarill's most recent version is PP100, sold as the 5-inch plush at Super Anime Store.

The PP100 number is notable on its own: Azumarill holds a round century slot in a catalog that stretches well past 400 entries. All Star Collection plush tend to favor accurate proportions and sturdier fill compared to the fit line.

Squishmallows

Kellytoy's Pokémon Squishmallows collaboration produced Marill in both 14-inch and 25cm formats. The 25cm version is available at Rarewaves for $24.99; the 14-inch at CNAG New Cut for $44.99.

The Squishmallows fill style is softer and more marshmallow-like than San-ei Boeki or Pokémon Center constructions. This makes them a different category choice rather than a substitute for fit or All Star Collection plush.

The Worlds Honolulu 2024 Exclusive

The Azumarill plush at Perfect Fit TCG for $59.99 is the most uncommon item in this guide.

It was distributed only to attendees at the 2024 Pokémon World Championships in Honolulu, Hawaii. There is no Pokémon Center Japan online equivalent and no reprint through standard retail channels. Venue exclusives from Worlds events typically enter the secondary market through collectors who were present, which is what has happened here.

The branding and tag design are specific to the Honolulu event. If you are building a Worlds merch collection or a complete Azumarill plush set, this is the version that closes the gap. The current asking price reflects the distribution model.

TCG Arc: From Neo Genesis to Ascended Heroes

Azumarill first appeared in the Neo Genesis set in 2000 as card number 2 of 111, one of the lowest-numbered cards in the Johto-era expansion.

The line has been in consistent print across three decades of sets: Aquapolis (2003), Sandstorm (2003) for the ex era, Steam Siege, Fusion Strike, Paldea Evolved, and now the Scarlet and Violet run. The most recent high-visibility print for Marill is the 2026 Illustration Rare, numbered 232/217 in the Mega Evolution: Ascended Heroes set. The IR format places the card beyond the set's main numbered print run, which is standard for the current Illustration Rare tier.

The 30th Celebration set (launched September 16, 2026) added Marill 067/128 and Azumarill 068/128 as Holo prints. Both are budget-friendly entry points for a generation-focused collection: the 30th Celebration set covers all eight main-series generations, so these two cards appear alongside every other Johto and Kanto Holo in the same product line.

Paldea Evolved also produced a standout Marill: the 204/193 Holo, which is the set's over-numbered position (above the main 193-card run). Currently at $62.99 through PayMore Spring Valley, it is the highest-priced modern Marill card in the current UCP catalogue.

The Light Azumarill Distinction

Collectors building a complete WotC-era Azumarill set encounter a card that is easy to confuse with a standard Azumarill: the Light Azumarill from Neo Destiny (2000).

Neo Destiny introduced the Light Pokémon trainer subtype: a series of cards prefixed with "Light" in their name, representing Pokémon trained by a specific style of trainer.

Light Azumarill is a distinct card from the standard Azumarill in Neo Genesis. It has different HP values, different attacks, and a different background treatment. A master set for Azumarill requires both the Neo Genesis version and the Neo Destiny Light variant to close out the WotC era.

This distinction is not obvious from the card's art alone, and it is the kind of detail that causes completionists to order duplicates before realizing the print difference. The Aquapolis Azumarill (4/147, Reverse Holo) is the third WotC-era print and currently the rarest of the three at $199.99 through True Believers Gaming.

The Legends Z-A Window

Pokémon Legends: Z-A launches October 16, 2026.

Z-A is set in Lumiose City, the central hub of the Kalos region from X and Y. Marill and Azumarill are native to Kalos, making them part of the regional dex that players will encounter during the game's early-access period. Legends games have historically driven renewed interest in their region's native species, both in the plush catalogue and in TCG singles searches.

The current window (14 days before launch) is when collector attention typically begins shifting toward Kalos-native species. The Ascended Heroes Illustration Rare and the Worlds Honolulu plush are the two items in this guide most likely to draw that attention.
