Pachirisu Collector's Guide 2026: The 2014 World Champion, the Illustration Rare, and Every Plush

Pachirisu is Pokédex number 417 and one of the more underestimated species in the Generation IV roster. It is a small Electric-type squirrel introduced in Pokémon Diamond and Pearl, and for most of its history it was treated as a background character in both the games and the trading card game.

That changed in 2014. The merchandise story followed in 2023. This guide covers both, along with the full current collector landscape: three distinct plush formats from $17 to $52, a 12-year gap in the English TCG that finally closed with a high-rarity card in the Scarlet and Violet base set, and a Surging Sparks promo blister that placed Pachirisu alongside Electric-type heavyweights in one of the most recent major TCG releases.

The 2014 World Championship

At the 2014 Pokémon World Championships in Washington, D.C., competitor Sejun Park won the Video Game Championships Masters Division using a team that included Pachirisu alongside Mega Kangaskhan, Garchomp, Gyarados, Rotom-W, and Sylveon.

Pachirisu's base stat total is 405. By comparison, Mega Kangaskhan reaches a total of 590 with its Parental Bond ability active. The gap is not subtle: Pachirisu sits below almost every competitive standard for raw power.

What Pachirisu provided was the Follow Me move, which redirects all single-target attacks toward the user for that turn. Paired with Nuzzle, a priority Electric-type move that inflicts paralysis on contact, Pachirisu could absorb attacks aimed at Mega Kangaskhan, disrupting opposing strategies while the team's main damage dealer operated freely. The combination was unexpected at the highest level of play precisely because Pachirisu appeared too weak to be there.

The win is now one of the most cited examples in competitive Pokémon history of support-role design outperforming raw stat expectations. Pachirisu's Bulbapedia entry documents the championship result as part of its competitive history.

The championship win did not immediately translate into merchandise. Pachirisu's plush catalogue reflects its broader status: present across multiple formats at accessible prices, without the premium ceiling of legendaries or starters. For collectors, that combination is often the more useful collecting environment.

Plush Tier: Three Formats from Fit to Sitting Cuties

Three plush lines currently cover Pachirisu across different size and price points: Pokémon fit, All Star Collection, and Sitting Cuties. Each comes from a different manufacturing context and occupies a distinct tier.

Pokémon fit

The Pokémon fit line from Pokémon Center Japan produces a compact palm-sized plush for each species in the National Pokédex. The Pachirisu fit plush is available through Ichiba Japan at $17.00 and through Japan Figure Store at $21.58, among other importers. It represents the most accessible entry point in the current Pachirisu plush catalogue.

The fit range is designed as a consistent display set across species. Each plush uses a simplified rounded design that reads as the character at small scale. The Pachirisu version captures the blue stripe and large fluffy tail that define the species without the size or cost of larger formats.

San-ei Boeki's All Star Collection catalogs every species plush under a PP numbering system. Pachirisu is PP103. The 7-inch version lists at $29.00 through Chibi's Anime Goods and at $34.99–$36.99 through other importers. All Star Collection plush use denser fill and more accurate body proportions compared to the fit line. PP103 is one of the earlier Sinnoh entries in the catalog, reflecting the generation's initial popularity.

Sitting Cuties

The Sitting Cuties line (known in Japan as Pokémon Fit Suwarasete) places each species in a seated pose on a stable base. Pachirisu Sitting Cuties lists at $30.00 through Poke Merch Market and at $48.19–$52.45 through ToyCartUSA. The wide spread between sellers is a margin differential on the same product, not a variant difference.

Sitting Cuties occupy the premium tier in the Pachirisu plush range: larger and more detailed than the Pokémon fit line, with a stable flat base designed for shelf display. For collectors who prioritize display presence over portability, this is the format to choose.

TCG: The Twelve-Year Wait for a Chase Card

Pachirisu entered the English TCG in the Diamond and Pearl era and appeared regularly through the HGSS run. The highest-rarity card from that period still available in the secondary market is the Call of Legends Holofoil 018/95 from 2011, currently at $9.30 through Josh's Cards.

Between 2011 and 2023, Pachirisu did not receive a Secret Rare or equivalent chase-rarity treatment in the English TCG. No V, no VMAX, no VSTAR, no Illustration Rare, no Special Illustration Rare. The gap spanned the entire Black and White, XY, Sun and Moon, and Sword and Shield eras: twelve years of sets without a high-rarity Pachirisu card in English.

That changed with the Scarlet and Violet Base Set, released March 2023.

CA$31.00 · from $17.00 USD

The Pachirisu 208/198 is the Illustration Rare version from SV1. It sits above the set's main 198-card numbered run, the standard position for Illustration Rares in the Scarlet and Violet era. Current asking prices range from $17.00 USD (SEIM COLLECTS) to $35.00 USD (Gameology) to €39.99 EUR (TCGKing.nl). The same character's standard reverse holofoil, Pachirisu 068/198 from the same set, lists at $0.27–$0.50. The 60x gap between the standard and the Illustration Rare exists within a single set release on the same Pokémon.

The Illustration Rare treatment came later in the same product cycle as the Paldean Fates Shiny Rare, released January 2024.

Paldean Fates (SV4.5) used the "Baby Shiny" format for its Shiny Rare tier: full-card shiny art at an accessible price point, numbered above the set's standard run at 138/091. Pachirisu 138/091 currently lists at $10.99–$15.00 across sellers. It is the most affordable high-rarity Pachirisu card in the market, and the shiny coloration produces a noticeably different visual from the standard blue-and-white design.

The Surging Sparks Promo Blister

$12.00–$13.49 USD

Surging Sparks (SV8, released November 2024) was the major Electric-type themed expansion in the Scarlet and Violet series. Its promo blister program paired a single Surging Sparks booster pack with a character-specific foil promo card.

Pachirisu was included as one of the blister characters, placing it alongside Pikachu, Raichu, and Jolteon as the Electric-type headliners of the wave. The Pachirisu blister lists at $12.00 through Tistaminis and $13.49 through Mint Cards and Collectibles. It contains a booster pack and the stamped Pachirisu foil promo, which is exclusive to this blister format and not pullable from standard Surging Sparks booster packs.

Inclusion in a major set's blister program reflects sustained collector interest: blister characters are selected to drive retail velocity, and Pachirisu's presence in the Surging Sparks wave confirms it holds enough demand to earn a dedicated retail slot twelve years after its Diamond and Pearl debut.

What to Buy

The Pokémon fit plush at $17.00 is the entry point for most collectors. It provides the most faithful compact version of the character and is part of a consistent display line that spans the entire National Pokédex. For anyone starting a Pachirisu collection or adding it to a broader Sinnoh plush display, this is the first purchase.

The Illustration Rare 208/198 at $17.00–$35.00 is the highest-rarity English Pachirisu card currently in print. For TCG collectors who track Illustration Rares by set, SV1 Pachirisu is a notable entry: it is one of a small number of non-starter, non-legendary Generation IV Pokémon to receive the treatment in the Scarlet and Violet era. The Call of Legends Holofoil at $9.30 is the vintage-era complement for collectors building a historical arc.

The Paldean Fates Shiny Rare at $10.99 is the lowest-cost modern chase card and is a reasonable add for collectors who want representation from the Scarlet and Violet shiny tier without committing to a higher price point.

All Star Collection and Sitting Cuties are the upgrade path for dedicated Pachirisu collectors who want shelf-display formats beyond the fit plush. The $29.00–$37.00 All Star Collection range is the practical mid-tier; the Sitting Cuties at $30.00–$52.00 is the premium display format.
