Mega Lucario ex: Three TCG Eras, the Worlds 2026 Reveal, and What to Collect Right Now
By Dexhaul Team · September 1, 2026
Mega Lucario Z ex made its debut at the Pokémon World Championships 2026 closing ceremony on August 31, and if you've followed Mega Lucario's history in the TCG, you already know this reveal fits a pattern that has repeated across three distinct eras.
What Was Announced at Worlds 2026
The reveal came at Chase Center in San Francisco. Mega Lucario Z ex was announced as the headliner of the upcoming ex★ (ex Star) series, a new rarity tier for the Scarlet & Violet era.
Alongside Mega Lucario Z ex, four MA Rare (Mega Attack Rare) cards were shown: Darkrai ex, Greninja ex, Rayquaza ex, and Zygarde ex. The MA Rare designation applies to evolved Mega forms, placing them in a rarity bracket above standard ex cards. Three ex★ Pokémon were also confirmed: the Legendary Beast trio, Suicune ex★, Entei ex★, and Raikou ex★.
The set name "Aura Seeker" circulated immediately following the ceremony. As of September 1, The Pokémon Company has not confirmed an official English release date or retail price.
No pre-orders are open yet. Anyone citing a specific date or price right now is speculating, not reporting. Follow official Pokémon news for confirmed announcements as they come.
Mega Lucario's TCG History: Three Eras
Mega Lucario is one of the handful of Mega Pokémon that has anchored a TCG product in every major Mega Evolution release window. That's a short list.
The first appearance came in the XY era. Furious Fists (2014) introduced Mega Lucario EX as a Fighting-type card with the Furious Fists attack. The card saw competitive play in its format window.
The full-art version from that era remains a recognizable piece of the XY-era collection and now trades as a sought-after vintage single.
The second era arrived with the Mega Evolution set in 2025. ME-01 launched with Mega Lucario ex as its headliner, bringing the Figure Collection, a dedicated Elite Trainer Box, and a Pokémon Center ETB to the product lineup. The current sealed products on the market mostly trace back to this release cycle.
The ex★ reveal at Worlds 2026 opens the third chapter. Mega Lucario Z ex will be the flagship card of the Aura Seeker set when it releases. The Z designation and the new ex★ rarity mark it as something distinct from prior cards, not a reprint.
The Figure Collection: Where Most Collectors Start
Right now, the most accessible sealed product for a Mega Lucario TCG collector is the Figure Collection.
The set includes the Mega Lucario ex promo card, a jumbo oversized version of the same card, a Mega Lucario ex figure, and booster packs from the ME-01 Mega Evolution set. At $106, it sits below the ETB in price while covering the core of what most collectors want from the arc: the promo, the figure, and packs.
If you're starting a Mega Lucario collection and want one product that does everything, this is it.
The ME-01 Elite Trainer Box
The Mega Evolution Base Set Elite Trainer Box is the pack-volume option. Eleven ME-01 booster packs, card sleeves, damage counters, and status condition markers fill this one out at $137.
For collectors who want more pulls from the ME-01 set, the ETB is the better value per pack than the Figure Collection. The tradeoff is that the ETB doesn't include the Mega Lucario ex figure that comes with the Figure Collection. Both are valid starting points depending on whether the figure or the packs matter more to you.
The Ascended Heroes Poster Collection
The Pokémon Mega Evolution Ascended Heroes Premium Poster Collection trades pack count for a large-format Mega Lucario ex display poster. Ten ME-01 booster packs come with it, plus the poster itself, at $170.
The poster is the differentiator here. If wall display is the goal, no other Mega Lucario product delivers it the same way.
At $170, it costs more than the ETB, and the pack count is slightly lower. The poster is the reason to buy it. A Mega Lucario shelf with this on the wall behind it is a different kind of collection than one built around sealed boxes alone.
The Pokémon Center ETB: The Premium Sealed Option
The ME-01 Pokémon Center Elite Trainer Box is the premium tier of the current Mega Lucario lineup. Eleven ME-01 booster packs plus exclusive Pokémon Center packaging bring it to $237.95.
The Pokémon Center ETB is the same pack content as the standard ETB at a significant price premium. The difference is the packaging.
Pokémon Center exclusive boxes carry different collector demand than the standard retail versions, and for some collectors that distinction matters. If it doesn't matter to you, the standard ETB at $137 gives the same pack experience for $100 less.
The Graded Route: PSA 9 Mega Lucario ex 188/132
For collectors who prefer graded singles over sealed product, the Mega Lucario ex secret rare from the ME-01 set is the card to know. Card number 188/132 is the full-art secret rare, the highest-rarity Mega Lucario ex in the current era, and PSA 9 copies are available through independent shops on DexHaul at around $280.
The graded route gives you the specific card in a protected, authenticated case without dealing with sealed product storage. It's a different approach than buying a Figure Collection or ETB, not a better or worse one.
Both paths get you Mega Lucario ex in your collection. The graded single is the card; the sealed products are the collecting experience.
One thing worth knowing: the Lucario line has generated more than 100 unique TCG cards since its debut in the Diamond & Pearl era. The secret rare 188/132 from ME-01 is the current standard for what a "flagship" Mega Lucario card looks like in the modern era.
The Three-Era Collection Arc: How to Think About It
Here's the pattern that sets Mega Lucario apart from most Mega Pokémon in the TCG.
Most Mega Pokémon from the XY era got one set of products, sold through, and haven't been revisited with dedicated flagship products. Mega Lucario got a second dedicated flagship arc in 2025 with ME-01, and is now slated for a third with ex★ Aura Seeker.
That three-era span is unusual. It reflects consistent collector demand for the character rather than a single product cycle.
If you're building a Mega Lucario collection, the current ME-01 products are the middle chapter of that arc. The XY originals are the vintage layer. Aura Seeker will add the third layer when it arrives.
Collectors who want all three eras have a clear sequence: XY singles, current ME-01 sealed or graded, and then whatever the ex★ format brings.
No pre-order window is open for Aura Seeker right now. When official product details are confirmed, DexHaul will surface merchant listings across independent shops. Until then, the ME-01 products above are what's available.
