Shaymin Collector's Guide 2026: The Competitive Staple, Two Formes, and Every Entry Point

Shaymin EX 77/108 costs about $10 raw in September 2026.

That price sits beside a résumé that most $10 cards cannot match. From June 2015, when XY: Roaring Skies hit store shelves, until Roaring Skies rotated out of Standard format in late 2017, Shaymin EX appeared in the majority of high-placing Pokémon TCG World Championship decks. Night March, Greninja BREAK, Mega Rayquaza, Trevenant spread: the builds changed season to season, but Shaymin EX was almost always there.

That history creates an unusual collector position. The card is inexpensive because the competitive era ended.

It is one of the most recognizable XY-era cards to anyone who played competitively during those two years.

What the Set Up Ability Actually Did

The reason Shaymin EX dominated for two straight seasons was a single Ability.

Shaymin EX's Set Up read: once during your turn, when you play this Pokémon from your hand onto your Bench, you may draw cards until you have 6 cards in your hand. That trigger fired the moment the card hit the bench. It cost no Energy, no discard, no other resource.

In a format built around filling the hand quickly and chaining plays into each other, that effect was structurally different from anything in the format at the time. A player with a dead hand could play one Shaymin EX and immediately refill to six. Play a second from the same hand and refill again.

Decks running four copies could chain the effect multiple times in a single turn.

The 77/108 standard holo is the card most competitive players actually ran. The 106/108 Full Art is visually the same card, same Ability text, same 130 HP. The premium is entirely in the artwork treatment.

Standard 77/108 runs $10 to $19 across multiple sellers right now. The Full Art 106/108 adds roughly $5 to $25 depending on seller and condition, with most listings landing between $15 and $31.

Neither card is scarce. The spread between them is entirely about how much the etched full-art sky artwork matters to you.

Two Formes, Two Separate Collector Arcs

Shaymin is one of a small group of Pokémon with two officially distinct Formes recognized across the TCG, merchandise, and games: Land Forme and Sky Forme.

Land Forme is the small hedgehog-shaped appearance. Sky Forme is winged, with a large floral crest. Both are Grass type in the TCG, both carry the same Pokédex number, and both generate separate collector demand.

The split matters most in the Platinum era. Platinum: Base Set (2009) gave each Forme its own LV.X card: 126/127 depicts Land Forme, and 127/127 depicts Sky Forme in full flight.

Having two separate LV.X cards for the same Pokémon in a single set was unusual for the format. Both carry independent collector markets today.

Sky Forme dominates the EX era entirely. Both the 77/108 standard holo and the 106/108 Full Art from Roaring Skies use Sky Forme artwork.

The modern SV-era Illustration Rare from Destined Rivals (May 2025) also features Sky Forme, this time in a meadow with detailed botanical linework. Raw copies of 185/182 run $12 to $14.

A PSA 10 example lists at $140: a 12x grade spread driven by the quality of that artwork, not by set scarcity.

Land Forme's strongest TCG representation remains the Platinum-era holos. The 14/127 Holo Rare from Platinum: Base Set lists at CA$44 and captures the hedgehog silhouette in a foil treatment the XY era never matched.

The Platinum LV.X as Ceiling

For most collectors, the Platinum LV.X cards represent the top of the pre-EX Shaymin market.

The 126/127 Land Forme LV.X lists at $49.99 raw NM. The 127/127 Sky Forme LV.X sits at $62 to $63 across multiple sellers, with the Sky Forme commanding the consistent premium that shows up across every Shaymin card tier. Both use the full-card LV.X foil treatment that defined the Gen 4 premium tier before EX mechanics replaced it.

Neither is especially hard to find right now. Demand for Platinum-era cards has been steady but not spiking, which means condition-sensitive buyers can still find strong raw copies without paying graded prices.

VSTAR, the Plush Lines, and the Sealed Market

Shaymin returned in Brilliant Stars (February 2022) as Shaymin VSTAR, again cast in a setup role. The VSTAR Power let a player draw two cards, a stripped-down echo of the original Set Up engine. The standard 014/172 VSTAR lists for as low as $4 raw: one of the cheapest entry points in the character's full TCG history.

The plush lines give collectors a second market organized entirely around the Forme split.

The All Star Collection assigned each Forme its own number: PP73 is Land Forme (ca. 12 cm, $21–$26), and PP220 is Sky Forme (winged, $28–$55 depending on seller). That Sky Forme premium persists across the entire collectible category, not just the TCG.

Collectors who want a single sealed product with modern Shaymin art have one English option right now: the Shaymin VSTAR Premium Collection.

At $155, the VSTAR Premium Collection is the only current dedicated sealed product with Shaymin as the headliner in English. It includes an oversized Shaymin VSTAR card, booster packs, and a promo card, making it the single-purchase route to the VSTAR art in a display-worthy format.

Every Entry Point, Summarized

The Shaymin collector ladder in September 2026 looks like this.

  • Shaymin VSTAR 014/172 Brilliant Stars: $4 raw (budget SWSH era entry)
  • Shaymin EX 77/108 Roaring Skies: $10–$19 (competitive-history standard holo)
  • Shaymin EX 106/108 Full Art Roaring Skies: $15–$31 (Full Art of the same card)
  • Shaymin 185/182 Destined Rivals IR: $12–$14 raw, $140 PSA 10 (modern Sky Forme artwork)
  • Shaymin LV.X 126/127 Land Forme Platinum: $49.99 (Gen 4 vintage ceiling)
  • Shaymin LV.X 127/127 Sky Forme Platinum: $62–$63 (Sky Forme vintage ceiling)
  • Shaymin VSTAR Premium Collection: $155 (only English sealed product for the character)

Each tier is distinct. The $10 Roaring Skies holo is not a consolation prize for collectors who cannot afford the LV.X. It is a different product with a different reason to exist: two World Championships' worth of tournament history in a sleeve-ready card.

That's the rarest combination in the TCG collecting space: a card that is historically significant, widely available, and still cheap.
