Pokémon TCG Tins: Every Standard Tin by Set and Year (2020–2026)

Pokémon TCG Mega Moonlit Tin featuring Mega Gengar ex
Pokémon TCG: Mega Moonlit Tin · $22.99 USD

Pokémon TCG tins fall into four distinct product types, each with a different pack count, promo setup, and price point.

Standard feature tins carry a foil promo card of one specific Pokémon ex, plus four or five booster packs. Poké Ball tins come out every quarter with three packs and a commemorative coin but no promo card.

Mini tins hold two packs with no promo. Collector Chest tins are the seasonal big box: six packs plus accessories like stickers, a coin, and sometimes a mini-poster.

This guide covers every format released from 2020 through 2026, what each contains, and which is worth buying now.

Every Pokémon TCG Tin Format at a Glance

The four formats have stayed structurally consistent even as the card era changed from Sword and Shield VMAX to Scarlet and Violet ex to the 2026 Mega Evolution ex line. Pack counts crept upward in the SV era: standard tins moved from three or four packs in the SWSH years to five packs in many SV-era releases, with no equivalent MSRP jump.

Recent standard feature tins are a better value per booster than they were in 2020 or 2021.

Where to Start

Three tins cover different entry points depending on what you want from the purchase.

For the promo card: Ascended Heroes Tin

The 2026 Ascended Heroes Tin is the strongest current pick if the promo card matters to you. You choose between Mega Meganium ex, Mega Emboar ex, or Mega Feraligatr ex, and all three are fully playable in the Standard format as of 2026, as tracked on Limitless TCG. Four Mega Evolution-Ascended Heroes booster packs round out the tin.

For the quarterly pack pull: Poké Ball Tin Q4 2025

The Q4 2025 Poké Ball Tin skips the promo entirely and gives you three booster packs from the current SV sets, plus a collectible Poké Ball-style tin you can use for storage. These sell out faster than standard tins around the holidays and are one of the more reliable stocking stuffers at around $29.99 from independent sellers (observed October 12, 2026).

For the budget pull: Lumiose City Mini Tin

Mini tins are the most affordable entry. The Lumiose City Mini Tin holds two packs and arrives in an assorted design, so the exact artwork varies.

There is no promo card in any mini tin. At around $12 to $16 from independent sellers, it works as a low-commitment pack opener or a small gift that does not require a specific variant choice.

Telling the Four Formats Apart

The packaging is the clearest signal. Standard feature tins are metal, roughly the size of a large book, and show a single Pokémon in full artwork across the front. The Pokémon featured on the tin is always the promo card inside.

Pokémon Scarlet and Violet Prismatic Evolutions Mini Tin
Mini tins like the Prismatic Evolutions Mini Tin are narrower and taller than standard feature tins · $35.00 USD (observed Oct 12, 2026)

Mini tins are narrower and taller than standard tins, with a cylindrical or rectangular shape that holds two booster packs stacked vertically. They do not feature a promo card.

Poké Ball tins are round or octagonal and clearly shaped like Poké Balls, Premier Balls, or other ball variants. You can distinguish them at a glance.

Collector Chest tins are larger and boxier, resembling a treasure chest, and the front panel typically lists "6 booster packs" plus additional accessories. The Fall 2025 Collector Chest and the Fall 2022 version both follow this design. If you see a tin promising six packs and bonus items, that is the Collector Chest format.

One detail that trips up new collectors: the set of booster packs inside a tin does not always match the Pokémon shown on the outside. A Mega Gengar ex promo tin might include packs from two different SV or Mega Evolution sets. The promo card and the booster contents are chosen independently by The Pokémon Company.

Displaying and Storing Your Tins

Sealed tins hold their shape for years when kept upright and away from direct sunlight. The lacquered metal is prone to edge scratching if tins are stacked without padding, so a shelf with tins face-out is the better option.

Once opened, the metal box works well for storing dice, coins, and small accessories. Most standard feature tins fit a deck box inside with room to spare.

For long-term card storage, tins are not a substitute for binders or side-loading pages. The interior is unpadded and cards shift during transport.

Q4 2026 Gift Picks from the Tin Line

Tins are among the most reliable Pokémon TCG gifts because the artwork on the outside communicates the specific Pokémon inside without the recipient needing to know set names or pack configurations.

The Mega Moonlit Tin is the standout Q4 choice for 2026 collectors: the Mega Gengar ex variant appeals to Ghost-type fans and competitive players alike, and the $22.99 price point observed at independent sellers (October 12, 2026) keeps it under most holiday budgets. The Poké Ball Tin Q4 2025 is the right choice for a younger collector or someone who does not have a preference for a specific Pokémon.

FAQ

How many packs are in a standard Pokémon TCG tin?

SWSH-era standard tins generally included three or four booster packs. SV-era tins moved to four or five packs: the Slashing Legends Tin carries five packs (ICv2, March 2025), while the Mega Moonlit and Ascended Heroes tins each hold four.

Do Pokémon TCG tins include a promo card?

Standard feature tins always include one foil promo card showing the Pokémon featured on the tin's artwork. Poké Ball tins and mini tins do not include a promo card, only booster packs and sometimes a coin.

What is the difference between a mini tin and a standard tin?

Mini tins are smaller, hold only two booster packs, carry no promo card, and retail at a lower price point. Standard feature tins are larger, hold three to five packs, and always include a unique foil promo card.

Are Pokémon TCG tins worth buying?

For the promo card, yes: the foil ex promos in current tins are exclusive and do not appear in standard booster packs. See the Ascended Heroes tins guide for a breakdown of the current Mega Evolution tin line.

When do new Pokémon TCG tins release?

Standard feature tins release alongside new TCG sets. Poké Ball tins follow a quarterly schedule. The Pokémon Company's official news page lists confirmed dates for upcoming tins.
