Vivillon is the only Pokémon in the franchise where every one of its 18 distinct wing patterns has a dedicated Pokémon Fit plush you can buy today.

The Kalos butterfly (#666) earned that distinction through one of the most unusual mechanics in Pokémon history: the wing pattern it displays is determined by the geographic region setting of the game hardware used during its evolution in X and Y. With Pokémon Legends: Z-A launching October 16, sixteen days away, and set in Lumiose City at the heart of the Kalos region, the window for Vivillon collecting is wide open right now.

Here is a map of the entire collection: how the pattern system works, which plushes exist, what the TCG offers, and where to find it all.

How the Pattern System Works

In Pokémon X and Y, Vivillon's wing pattern was set by the country and region settings on the Nintendo 3DS.

Sixteen natural patterns exist, each mapped to a different part of the world. Icy Snow and Polar cover Nordic and Arctic regions.

Tundra, Continental, and Elegant map across Northern and Western Europe, with Elegant specifically tied to France. Garden covers the UK, and Modern and Meadow span South and Central Europe.

Marine and Ocean cover island regions including the Canary Islands and Hawaii. Archipelago covers Southeast Asia.

River and Monsoon cover East Asia and South Asia, while Sandstorm covers North Africa and the Middle East. High Plains covers the western United States, and Savanna covers Sub-Saharan Africa.

Serebii's Pokédex entry maps each pattern to its specific 3DS region codes.

The key point: the pattern is locked in at evolution from Spewpa to Vivillon. Once that step happens, the wing design is permanent for that particular Pokémon.

The Two Event Patterns

Two additional patterns exist that cannot be obtained through normal gameplay: Poké Ball Pattern and Fancy Pattern.

Both were distributed via Mystery Gift during 2014. The Poké Ball Pattern was the reward for the global community reaching 100 million Wonder Trades on June 4, 2014. The Fancy Pattern was distributed via Wi-Fi serial codes during the same event window.

Neither has been re-distributed since. The distribution servers are closed and the event windows are fixed historical records, not recurring promotions.

This makes both patterns collector items in the strictest sense.

In the TCG, the XY137 Black Star Promo is the only English card to depict the Poké Ball Pattern artwork specifically. At $4.99, it sits at the lowest tier of Vivillon merchandise and serves as an accessible piece of event-pattern documentation for collectors who want the form represented on a card. No other Vivillon TCG card uses the Poké Ball Pattern art.

Every Pattern Has a Plush

The Pokémon Fit line covered all 18 Vivillon forms.

That is a unique achievement in the Pokémon merchandise catalogue. For comparison: Castform has four weather forms and two Pokémon Fit variants. Rotom has six forms with no form-specific plush line in Pokémon Fit at all.

Vivillon's 18-pattern-to-18-plush coverage has no parallel in the franchise.

Ichiba Japan carries most natural patterns at $24 each, including Polar, Ocean, Elegant, Fancy, Meadow, Icy Snow, Marine, Tundra, Archipelago, and River Pattern. Collector Store LLC stocks the Poké Ball Pattern and Continental Pattern at $24.99 each. Poke Merch Market carries Modern, Savanna, Monsoon, Garden, and River Pattern at $30.

All the plushes sit at $24–$30 regardless of rarity or region. The Poké Ball Pattern plush costs the same as the Meadow Pattern plush, even though the in-game Poké Ball Pattern Vivillon was a far more restricted distribution. Merchandise pricing reflects the Pokémon Center production run, not the in-game scarcity.

The TCG Arc: Accessible Ceiling

Vivillon has never received a GX, V, VMAX, VSTAR, or ex card in English.

The entire English TCG arc runs from budget to modestly collectible, never hitting premium territory. The XY BREAKthrough Holo Rare 15/162 sits at CA$1.00 from 401 Games. The SV01 Base Set and Battle Styles Commons trade between $0.15 and $0.20.

The current English ceiling is the Surging Sparks (SV08) Illustration Rare 193/191. It is an above-set-ceiling card with detailed butterfly wing art, available from KunaiGames at $5. The price climbs into the €29.99 range at European sellers, reflecting the usual UK/EU import differential on niche IR cards rather than any shortage.

On the Japanese side, the Art Rare (AR) 107/106 from SV8 Super Electric Breaker trades at $3–$8 across multiple sellers. It is the most detailed Japanese Vivillon card currently in print and sits comfortably below the threshold where TCG singles feel like a financial commitment.

The no-ex ceiling is a feature for most Vivillon collectors rather than a gap. The plush line is where the collecting depth lives. The TCG serves as a low-cost supplemental layer rather than the primary vertical.

The Legends Z-A Window

Pokémon Legends: Z-A releases on October 16, sixteen days from now.

The game is set in Lumiose City, the same urban Kalos hub introduced in Pokémon X and Y in 2013. The official Pokémon Legends: Z-A page confirms Lumiose City as the game's central environment. Vivillon's pre-evolution Scatterbug could be caught on routes directly adjacent to Lumiose in the original XY, making it a native Kalos Pokémon in the most literal geographic sense of that phrase.

Collector interest in Kalos characters tends to rise around major game releases. Xerneas and Yveltal, the Kalos version mascots, saw renewed search traffic after the Legends Z-A reveal. Vivillon sits in a different tier entirely: no ex card, no tournament legacy, just a completionist plush challenge with a clear price ceiling and a 16-day countdown ticking on the region that originated it.

That combination rarely holds this long without the market noticing.
