Shining Fates Premium Collection (2021): Contents and MSRP
By Dexhaul Team · October 13, 2026 · 5 min read
The Shining Fates Premium Collection launched March 5, 2021 in two versions: Shiny Crobat VMAX and Shiny Dragapult VMAX.
Each version contains seven Shining Fates booster packs, an etched foil V promo card, an etched foil VMAX promo card, a jumbo oversize VMAX card, a metallic coin, and a code card for Pokémon TCG Live. The MSRP at launch was $49.99 USD, per the official Pokémon TCG product gallery.
One detail that surprises many collectors: neither Shiny Crobat VMAX nor Shiny Dragapult VMAX appears anywhere in the Shining Fates set. Both VMAX promos are exclusive to these boxes. You cannot pull them from booster packs.

What's inside the Shining Fates Premium Collection
The Crobat VMAX and Dragapult VMAX versions share an identical structure, differing only in which V and VMAX promo cards are inside. The Shining Fates Elite Trainer Box contains 10 packs, but no promo cards.
| Item | Qty | Crobat VMAX version | Dragapult VMAX version |
|---|---|---|---|
| Shining Fates booster packs | 7 | 7 packs | 7 packs |
| Etched foil V promo card | 1 | Crobat V (exclusive promo) | Dragapult V (exclusive promo) |
| Etched foil VMAX promo card | 1 | Shiny Crobat VMAX (exclusive promo) | Shiny Dragapult VMAX (exclusive promo) |
| Jumbo oversize VMAX card | 1 | Oversized Shiny Crobat VMAX | Oversized Shiny Dragapult VMAX |
| Metallic coin | 1 | Included | Included |
| Code card for Pokémon TCG Live | 1 | Included | Included |
The etched finish on the V and VMAX promo cards is distinct from standard holofoil. The etch pattern gives the card surface a layered, dimensional look that standard Shiny Vault pulls do not share.
MSRP and price per pack
At $49.99 USD MSRP for seven packs, the Shining Fates Premium Collection worked out to roughly $7.14 per pack at retail. That was in line with other Sword and Shield-era premium collections of 2021.
| Product | Packs | MSRP (USD) | Cost per pack |
|---|---|---|---|
| Shining Fates Premium Collection (this product) | 7 | $49.99 | ~$7.14 |
| Shining Fates Elite Trainer Box (ETB) | 10 | $49.99 | ~$5.00 |
The ETB gives you three more packs for the same MSRP but no promo cards. The Premium Collection trades pack volume for the two exclusive etched promos and the jumbo card. Current secondary market prices vary by seller and version; the listings below reflect what independent shops are charging as of the date of this article.
How it compares to other Sword and Shield premium collections
The Shining Fates Premium Collection sits between smaller Sword and Shield premium products and the larger Ultra-Premium Collections of the era. The Combined Powers Premium Collection (2024) is a useful modern comparison for scale.
| Collection | Release | MSRP | Packs | Promo cards |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Shining Fates Premium Collection (2021) | Mar 5, 2021 | $49.99 USD | 7 | Etched V + etched VMAX + jumbo VMAX (all exclusive to box) |
| Charizard ex Premium Collection (2023) | Oct 20, 2023 | $49.99 USD | 6 | Etched Charizard ex + Charmander + Charmeleon foils; One-Touch display case |
| Combined Powers Premium Collection (2024) | Feb 23, 2024 | $64.99 USD | 11 | Lugia ex, Ho-Oh ex, Suicune ex; oversize Lugia ex |
Release timeline
The Shining Fates expansion hit shelves on February 19, 2021. The Premium Collection followed two weeks later on March 5, 2021.
That two-week gap was unusual for its time. Most premium collections in the Sword and Shield era released on the same day as their parent set. The delayed launch for Shining Fates premium products appears to have been a production decision, not a regional difference: both the Crobat and Dragapult versions share the March 5 date on the official product gallery.

Who it's for, and who should skip it
Buy the Shining Fates Premium Collection if you specifically want the etched Crobat V or Dragapult V promo card. Both V promo cards are exclusive to this product. They have never appeared in any booster pack.
The same exclusivity applies to the VMAX cards. Shiny Crobat VMAX and Shiny Dragapult VMAX are not in the Shining Fates Shiny Vault subset.
The Shiny Vault contains 122 Shiny Pokémon cards from the base set, but neither Crobat VMAX nor Dragapult VMAX is among them. If a seller lists those VMAXes as "Shiny Vault pulls," that is incorrect.
If you want Shiny Vault cards, including the chase Shiny Charizard VMAX, you want packs. The seven packs inside this box give you Shiny Vault access, but the two VMAX promos are a separate component altogether.
Skip it if pack volume is your goal. The ETB gives you 10 packs at the same $49.99 MSRP. You pay for the exclusive promos here, not the pack count.
