Silver Lance S6H/S6K English Equivalent: Chilling Reign
By Dexhaul Team · October 12, 2026 · 5 min read
Two Japanese sets make up Sword & Shield's English Chilling Reign. Silver Lance (S6H) and Jet-Black Spirit (S6K) both released on April 23, 2021 in Japan; the English set followed on June 18, 2021, giving collectors a 56-day window where the Japanese versions were the only way to pull Shadow Rider Calyrex or Ice Rider Calyrex.
The pair was designed as a matched set from the start. S6H follows Shadow Rider Calyrex, the Psychic-type legendary; S6K follows Ice Rider Calyrex, its counterpart. Buying only one is not wrong, but the two share a story that makes the combined box the more complete collector option.
See the full Japanese sets and English equivalents guide for where these sit in the broader Sword & Shield era.

Card count: S6H and S6K vs Chilling Reign
Limitless TCG lists Silver Lance at 83 cards for S6H. Jet-Black Spirit (S6K) was released simultaneously as the companion set with a similar count. The English Chilling Reign release draws from both sets and adds EN-exclusive card treatments on top.
| Version | Set code | Release date | Theme Pokémon | Cards on Limitless |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Silver Lance (JP) | S6H | April 23, 2021 | Shadow Rider Calyrex | 83 (limitlesstcg.com/cards/jp/S6H) |
| Jet-Black Spirit (JP) | S6K | April 23, 2021 | Ice Rider Calyrex | See limitlesstcg.com/cards/jp/S6K |
| Chilling Reign (EN) | SWSH6 | June 18, 2021 | Both Calyrex forms | Combines S6H + S6K + EN-exclusive art |
The EN set adds full-art Supporter versions, rainbow rare VMAXs, and gold-card variants of key items. Every Pokémon that appears in S6H or S6K appears in English Chilling Reign with the same attack wording translated directly.
Shadow Rider Calyrex and Ice Rider Calyrex
The two Calyrex forms are the headline cards of this era and split cleanly by set. Shadow Rider Calyrex V and VMAX are S6H exclusives; Ice Rider Calyrex V and VMAX are S6K exclusives. Both forms appear in English Chilling Reign.
Shadow Rider Calyrex VMAX was the more competitively played of the pair during its format, driven by Adp-style Psychic combos and the Underworld Door Ability. Ice Rider Calyrex VMAX carved a niche in Water-type stall builds. Either card in Japanese commands a premium over the EN printing for collectors who prefer the original artwork framing.

S6H and S6K contributed to the same EN set. No cards from either set were held back for Evolving Skies, Lost Origin, or any later English release.
| Card | JP source | EN set | JP rarity | EN adds |

| All S6H + S6K numbered cards | Both JP sets | Chilling Reign | Various | No card split to another EN set |
Note that Matchless Fighters (S5a) also contributed cards to English Chilling Reign. Those cards, including the Urshifu Single Strike and Rapid Strike runs, are covered separately in our Matchless Fighters S5a guide.
Japanese or English?
The 56-day gap gave Japanese collectors a clear head start. For most buyers today both versions are available from independent merchants at similar prices for singles.
| If you are buying for… | Choose | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| Tournament play (English events) | Chilling Reign (EN) | English-language tournament legal; all text readable |
| Calyrex VMAX display collection | S6H or S6K (JP) | Original Japanese art frames; compact set size |
| Rainbow Rare VMAXs | Chilling Reign (EN) | Rainbow Rares exist only in EN; no Japanese equivalent |
| Completing both Calyrex forms | S6H + S6K together (JP) | Each form belongs to its own set; combined box covers both |
| Budget sealed opening | Either | JP: 30 packs, 5 cards each; EN: 36 packs, 10 cards each |
One practical note: Japanese S6H and S6K packs are separate products. If you want both Calyrex forms from sealed packs, you need both sets. The combined booster box format (see hero product above) is the most efficient way to get full coverage from sealed.
For buying individual Japanese cards, see the Japanese Pokémon TCG buying guide for what to check when ordering singles from overseas merchants.

Frequently asked questions
Is Silver Lance the same as Chilling Reign?
Partially. Silver Lance (S6H) is one of two Japanese sets that make up English Chilling Reign. The other is Jet-Black Spirit (S6K).
Both JP sets released April 23, 2021; Chilling Reign EN released June 18, 2021.
Which set has Shadow Rider Calyrex and which has Ice Rider Calyrex?
Shadow Rider Calyrex V and VMAX are in Silver Lance (S6H). Ice Rider Calyrex V and VMAX are in Jet-Black Spirit (S6K). Both forms appear in English Chilling Reign.
Did any Silver Lance or Jet-Black Spirit cards go to Evolving Skies?
No. All cards from S6H and S6K appear in English Chilling Reign. Evolving Skies draws from different Japanese sets released later in 2021.
How many packs are in a Japanese Silver Lance booster box?
A Japanese S6H Silver Lance booster box contains 30 packs of 5 cards each, for 150 cards total. This is the standard Sword & Shield era Japanese booster box format. English Chilling Reign booster boxes contain 36 packs of 10 cards each.
Are Silver Lance and Jet-Black Spirit singles the same price as Chilling Reign in English?
Singles prices vary by seller and card condition. Japanese V and VMAX singles often price lower than their EN counterparts for base-rarity cards, because EN versions have wider distribution. Rainbow Rare and Full Art versions exist only in EN, so those carry a premium that has no Japanese equivalent.
